I ordered one. Should be arriving next week. I liked the demos of the X-touch more than the Faderport so figured I'll start there. Individual channel knobs and the layout of the transport were also a factor. Going to give it a spin and see how we get along.
On the other end of the $pectrum the SSL Nucleus 1 is selling for half off retail as used. Probably because version 2 is out now. This controller already has 16 faders, individual channel knobs, 2 super-analog preamps and depending on your OS can also be a USB interface and monitor section.

Yeah they are all price dropped. I figured just to interfere with Faderport.
The expansion has the channel displays and the compact does not. other than that I think they are basically the same and can be used the same way.
I think I am going to pick one up and toy around with it. Give it a 30 day trial. I am using Reaper now but have been contemplating moving to Logic ever since that Education price bundle came out. I'll give it a go with Reaper first.

Yeah, it's definitely an attachment to the original session.
I'm going to take a stab at the stereo mix idea. I'm also going to look into a more itb approach in the future by printing more things including my aux sends. Thanks for the thoughts everyone.

Bumping this oldie because the expansion faders are announced and should be out soon... 8 more faders for $350.
Who's using this controller and how's it holding up?
Please do tell and please shout out the daw you are using as well.

I had a sorta disappointing moment happen recently I'd like to share. About 6 months ago I produced a few songs with a certain vocalist in mind. I tried to push myself to arrange stronger and I think because of that I was loose with the technicalities. I really blitzed through the songs in a good zone. I was recently able to get the tracks to her. She liked one so much that she wrote and recorded a song to it in just a few days. She sent me the acapella and I dropped it into the session. I realized all the tracks were dry and unprocessed. I had recorded a stereo mix through a bunch of outboard and mixer and didn't take any notes or photos. I have no recall to go off of whatsoever for remixing with her vocals. Not sure if it was the pressure I put myself under or just a slip of the memory but I blew the recall. Fast forward a few weeks and I have done 8 mixes of the song and none of them are as good as that original mix she recorded to. Or are they? The mind definitely plays trick as time passes by. Honestly this whole situation has me thinking that if I had mixed in the box from the jump I would be a pretty happy dude right now. I'm sure I'll get to the bottom of it soon but sometimes even a short lapse of time can have a strong effect.

Wow they really went all out with available center frequencies. Looks really modern, too. true! not familiar with the brand but they also offer 1176 and sta-level clones.

My current machine is... MacBook Pro (15-inch Retina Late 2013) - Intel Core i7-4750HQ @ 2.0 GHz (4 cores) = Benchmark Score 11629If I am reading that benchmark link correct I am going from a score of 4782 to a score 14480.
I got all my work transferred and opened a mix last night. smooth sailing. I will give it the tracking test tonight.
Congrats on doing the deed.

I also agree that Warm's customer service is pretty amazing. Not only do they respond to emails very quickly, but one time I was troubleshooting an issue with an EQP-WA on a Saturday and Chad returned my email in 10 minutes and continued to patiently respond to another 3 or 4 back and forth emails in the same timely manner until the issue was resolved. Hard to find other manufacturers who will do that on a weekend. Yes! I once emailed Chad at 1030 on a Friday night thinking Ill hear back on Monday. I got an email back within 30 minutes and had back and forth convo for an hour.

Chase is correct. I just had Warm provide excellent support far out of warranty. Handled by Bryce himself.

I have a 500GB SSD in my rMBP. Everything runs off of and saves to that internal drive. Then I back up to cloud storage. How is the computer under full load at the end of the mix ? Hot to the touch ? Do you have to keep the battery charged the whole time ? How loud is the fans mine get real loud even after cleaning and dust removal ... john What configuration did you get ? Domyou have to wait or are the machines already being built? Do you work with two screens? If so are they side by side or cascaded vertical? I work with two screens and am trying to think about mix position and sonics having two big screens side by side.. ( iMac and separate Samsung 27" ) With my MBP I have the second screen on a stand raised 4" above and behind the MBP screen but not sure how this would work with an iMac lol I got the lowest 27" but upgraded to 16gb ram. certainly miles beyond my old laptop. should receive early next week. I only work with one screen. I don't use virtual instruments or many plug ins but I need a reliable system for audio and light video work. rumor was that the imacs wouldn't come until the fall so having it months earlier is a bonus for me.

from the youtube description:
"The precise date is unknown, but towards the end of May 1968 The Beatles met at Kinfauns, George Harrison's bungalow in Esher, Surrey. There they recorded demo versions of a number of songs written in India, 19 of which later appeared on the White Album. The 27 songs believed to have been taped at Kinfauns were recorded on Harrison's Ampex four-track reel-to-reel tape recorder. They were mostly grouped together by the composer of each song, although John Lennon's songs were more scattered across the day. It is possible that not all of the demos were recorded at Kinfauns, and it has been speculated that some were recorded alone by the songs' composers. Alternatively, previously-made recordings may have been brought to Harrison's house for overdubbing, but, again, this is far from clear."

I have some bootleg IR's taken from an early Bricasti that I use occasionally. Even the IRs sound amazing, but the latency through the IR wrapper is ridiculous so it makes it hard to use. I'm really hoping that the scuttlebutt about a lower cost Bricasti machine coming out are true.. I spoke with Bricasti about a month ago, the M200 is going to connect analog only and is delays and reverb. It may be a year out who knows? It will also have fewer processors than the M7 which has 12 (?) I believe. In the meantime, the problem with looking for alternatives to what you really want is that the desire for it will never go away until you get it. Several years ago I stepped back and looked at all the stuff that came and went until I ended up where I should have started all along. Lesson for me was make due with what I have and wait until I could purchase what I really need and want all at the same time. Spend money where it will make the biggest impact and get me away from looking for the next tool that still hasn't made me rich and famous We are getting ready to start building out our new studio, we will be adding a Bricasti, the question is it the M7 or the M7M with the plugin from Exponential Audio? Will this be the ticket? I don't care because it sounds awesome It was stated by Casey on the other site that the M200 was originally slated for AES in October but is now more likely for NAMM in January. If it has even half the guts and glory of the big dude I would be thrilled to use it but also hoping the price matches those adjustments. I have also only heard the M7 in headphones at a convention but it was enough for me. Totally worth the asking price if it can be swung.

i echo all of that John. very excited to soak it in. lately I'm recording everything: 4038->redd47->rs124->warm pultec->neve tape saturator. healthy bx10 and echoplex throughout where desired. closest I have ever been to the sound in my head. probably thanks to their recordings and songs. so inspired from the sound alone.

I'm a fan of the gear. Haven't used the mic pre though. Their podcast cracks me up. Looking forward to his record being released. Even though he bites Portishead. (joking)...

I used the Diz d4 for a few years while saving for the Chandler. Never had any issues with it. Good sound. At your price limit I think it would be worth an audition. When I sold it I lost like $50. For almost 2 years of use. Not bad. John, how would you compare the Chandler to the D4? I've always been curious. Hi Martin, while the D4 was good the Chandler is great. I am very satisfied with my investment. the folks I have been producing for have noticed a higher sound quality and a few of my engineer-type friends have commented on the drastic increase of weight and fidelity when comparing my productions from the past few years to my most recent work. the DI is so good that I haven't used my amp for recording since. Its a great fit for me and my sound.
