I know you didn't wanna go the waves route but I bought the Abbey Road Reel ADT for $29 before visiting RGO just now. Lowest price I've ever seen it at. Also got the plates last month for $29. At prices that low the prospect of having to pay for an update in the future doesn't seem so sad. Especially since they are killer plug ins.

I got the 58 AV sunburst precision a few weeks ago. it is beautiful and a serious joy to play. ordered some labella 54 originals for it. admittedly, this is my first time buying a new bass. first was squire and then a MIM. Both were craigslist buys and I never changed anything about them. Any tips on adjusting the truss for the labellas? they should be arriving in the next few days. Are those "mediums," at .052 - .110? If so, then those are pretty thick, but will sound real good. The FS flats I got are standard gauge but because flats are higher tension than round wounds of same gauge, I had to adjust the truss. You have to take off the neck and use a phillips head. Be careful lifting it out of the pocket. I had to tighten the truss about 1/5 turn to the right, and surprisingly did not have to re-intonate. I did adjust the pickup heights to get optimal string balance. You will probably have to turn the truss screw a little more given the higher tension and then adjust the saddles, 2nd link below. You might also find you want to adjust the saddle height as well, for comfort. support.fender.com/hc/en-us/articles/214343843-How-do-I-set-up-my-bass-guitar-properly-www.wikihow.com/Adjust-Intonation-on-BassIf it seems like you have to adjust truss a lot, then you're supposed to do it in increments, let it settle overnight the first time. If anything seems wonky and uneven with the neck curvature, then you should take of the strings and go lighter gauge. Thanks Joseph. These are actually the heaviest they make I believe. But I figured if the bass is supposed to be 58 then it should handle strings that are supposed to be from 54. There are many great reviews of them.
Im going to take a stab at it this evening.

not in the audio world but regarding their global shipping: I bought my wife a vintage wood sewing box for xmas last year. shipped from the UK using global shipping. Showed up broken in pieces. Turns out that ebay has locations set up to repackage these products in order to minimize size. They had completely ditched the sellers strong packaging in order to use a smaller box with newspaper protection (wtf) for less costs. There are many complaints about this online if you dig around.

Ah I almost forgot about the Federal. I had the Dizengoff D864 version before I got my RS124. It really is special on bass. One could say it was made for bass.

I got a ridiculous deal on a Fender American Vintage '63 Precision Bass. It's got some wear and tear, but I actually kind of dig it. Ha, I got exact same model and color yesterday! Put La Bella flats on it, adjusted truss. Plays exceptionally well and so light! The only sales I've heard of have been off the stage and I suspect it was mostly for the jacket. Performing is definitely the ultimate gateway but ive also seen a strong social media following alongside a strong project buzz generate results. Especially for genres where a stage show or touring isn't central. A simple search of places like bandcamp can show that many independent releases with these attributes show sold out vinyl. All under the terms 'limited' / 'special edition' / 'pink-swirl colored' etc... Hell, some of these folks have made collecting their releases on vinyl a hip thing to do. I personally know several groups who have sold out of their limited 300 or 500 vinyl runs without ever doing a show. This is very grassroots niche stuff of course for the underground scene. If a group or artist can muster up 5,000 true followers online moving 300 pieces of vinyl can be fairly easy. I buy at least 2-3 albums a month from groups just like this and I am certainly not alone.
I think videos are huge for this. Its ironic because they say video killed the radio but today... if an independent artist releases an album without some kind of visual accompaniment, did it actually ever happen? like a tree falling in the forest.

check out www.gottagrooverecords.com/from my own window shopping this is where I would go. they have a 'retail ready' 300 count that amounts to about $6 a unit minus shipping. pretty decent considering it includes everything. I read and heard about many quality control issues/ arrogance from the larger US plants. Also plan for months of waiting no matter where you go. Might already be too late for this coming Christmas for your project. is that for a single or an LP? this is for an LP as the original poster requested.
I think there is an aura of accomplishment to get the project on vinyl. It can effect how the project is perceived to positive results. The vinyl shows listeners that you have gone beyond the standard digital platform and I believe there are a lot fans who appreciate that. Especially those who did not grow up on records as the standard and are growing tired of streaming. Are they hipsters for this? I don't care if they prefer craft beer and wear a flannel beard. Do they like the music enough to add it to their collection? That's the question. Can you independently see this idea through financially and logistically from production to delivery? That's the answer.
Vincent I think its awesome that you can still sell cds. I certainly miss those days. But unless you are ok with losing money you need to step up the records to at least 300 units. And like Bob said, 500 doesn't cost much more than 300 which would allow you to consider a lower asking price. Ha! its a tough choice.

Maybe they say its a small family business, maybe its child labor, maybe environmental factors are lax... who knows. I found them to be less revealing in the details which made me weary. some say the quality of sound went down when the lead was removed. luckily, many folks just enjoy having a piece of the art and vinyl has been outselling cds in the independent world for some time now. trouble is its a bit of a luxury for those who use the term independent as a budget rather than a genre.

You'll want to give the Strymon El Capitan a demo. Best echo pedal I tried out of many. Versatility through the roof.
Thinking I should add a univibe style to the selection. Going to look into the models mentioned. Thanks.

early Maestro Fuzz Tone en route, realized I had spent too much time and money looking for that sound. sold the others and went for it. Wow, I'd like some more details on that, when you get it! I am in the middle of a bunch of fuzz pedals right now. Got a Fuzz Face on the bench currently, and a Big Muff fresh off the press is rocking my world. Still have not tried anything like a Maestro. yeah ill follow up. I like the germanium style so I had started with a Mosrite clone. Then moved to the Malekko Bassmaster which is quite good. Especially on bass. I got the Jext Telez White Pedal a few months back and thought maybe I'll just stick with this and don't really need a fuzz. Nah! So yeah decided to give the original a go.

wow looking back at my old arrangement I had accumulated a lot of stuff! I have sold almost all of it in favor of a few simple high quality chains. which puts me back into the market for a smaller desk. I found this one and wanted to share it with you all. All wood and made in Seattle for a decent price. Also looks modern and cool in my opinion.
I need just a bit more rack space so I will probably wait to see what they cook up next. hopefully something in the tilt flat mastering style.

Congrats john . There are many things to love about it, but there is one aspect of it that is problematic. When I use it to record myself, there's fader noise from any automated tracks that are in the active group and it's considerable if you have large sweeps, which I often do. If there was a "Disable Fader Automation" button on the thing, all would be right in the world. One solution is to move the track you're recording on away from any tracks that have fader movement (even if you have to create them). The other is to Hide the tracks that have fader automation. Both solutions are a PITA, but unfortunately it's necessary. Still love my X-Touch. ah interesting. with that in mind I would continue working as I do which is not to add any automation until everything is tracked and I am mixing down. even disabling the automation in the daw could at least get rid of the noise for you at the time of recording. that's a bummer though. I wonder if it can be fixed in future firmware.

Got this puppy yesterday. First impressions are good. Easy to set up. Build is decent. Feels good. I opened an older session in Reaper and found it responded well to most actions. Faders, panning, transport and zoom functions are sweet. Quick mutes and solos without grabbing the mouse are also awesome. Automation writing was smooth without ever touching the mouse. Select track, enable write mode and hit record. Action! Could not get the send function to operate but probably just needs more learning on my end. I've been using the X-Desk for almost 2 years and frankly it didn't feel much different. Except I wont have to take all the notes and photos for recall.

The one I'm still curious about is the Altec bird cage mics. Wonder how they compare to the Coles and other good ones. Anyone? If you're interested in some cheap character ribbon mics you may want to check the little reslo bbcs mics, you can find them for about $150 a piece. They were also ordered by the bbc but They're the opposite of the coles. The coles have a really hifi topend for a ribbon, the reslo's high end is very trashy, agressive and to me sounds like it has a narrow peak around 4k that realy helps with some percusive sources. It's my favorite kick out microphone, as it reaches very low but also has that peak that makes it sound like the ribbon version of the beta52, I also love it on floor tom. I've also had some success with it as a mono overhead. I usually use my aea r44 there which sounds huge and very polite, but sometimes for some more punky gnarly garagey tones the Reslo can't be beat, not great sounding soloed but cool in the right mix. Thanks. A friend uses a Reslo and loves it. I think the next mic I will save for is U47 fet. I'm very happy with my 4038 for the ribbon sound.

I had a Royer and Mojave and sold them both to get the Coles about a year ago. No regrets. I had been daydreaming about a RCA 77 but the Coles does it for me.
I also stumbled upon the 4035 dynamic and took it home. Sounds great!

Yeah they sure are something. That ride through the Coles 4038 with some nice outboard is just what I had been searching for.
I had some 70s new beat hats that sound ok in the room but are too sharp as a recording. Im confident the Keropes will smooth out that issue.
I'm having the same problem with my 14" New Beats. I was thinking K but I'll have to check out the Kerope hats as well! from the demos I have heard the Keropes are ultra mellow. a pro drummer once told me that Keropes only sound good with other Keropes on a whole kit. not sure I agree. right now I have the 22 Kerope right side, 20 K Con left side, 18 Special Dark Crash kick stand and now the Kerope hats should be here Saturday. Im excited to see how they all interact.

Near mint 14" Kerope hats for a low price. the 22" ride really blows my mind so I decided to see what the hats can add to the kit. Nice! Those are my favorite sizes as well from the Kerope line that I've played. Both of those are on my short list Yeah they sure are something.
