So I'm moving to Nashville in a week and just realized I'll get there in time for NAMM. Never been to a NAMM show so I'd like to figure out a way to go. Anyone have suggestions/advice for how one goes about getting in?
Thanks!
Andrew

i'm not sure if you want something for your DAW as a plugin or not, but as an MD when I'm running a band I'll use Tempo Advance on iOS. Great app.

too bad their plugs are astronomically priced compared to most on the market.

Modded Yamaha HS80m's and a pair of 3-way KRK 10-3's. i have the Yamaha HS80m's as well. Curious as to what mod you did and how did you like the result? Might be interested in something like this.

Wiz, I feel your pain. I found out while doing my first studio internship. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I was falling through the floor. I rushed to the door and vomited. My balanced was all screwed up, I fell twice trying to get to the sink to rinse out my mouth. For the next 3 days I was racked with the worst headache ever. I went back into the studio and the second we played the track we were working on I felt nausea again. This was the beginning of a now 16 year ordeal. It has struck me at different times, usually corresponding with loud audio stimulation. I finally got a slew of testes done when the headache lasted for over a week and I was left mentally wrecked. All the tests came back inconclusive, so I have learned to live with it, turning down the music when I feel the warning signs. They include the muscles in the back of my neck clamping up and a slight floating/falling sensation. I must say though, it has gotten much better and I have a hard time remembering the last time it happened. I have made a direct correlation, like you, between heavy compression and the onset of the symptoms. I also think it has components of phase and distortion issues. I hope you can figure out what your triggers are. i think i'd be mentally wrecked if someone slew my testes as well.

i know there are coax to optical converters out there, are these any good or do they do weird stuff to the signal? going to be getting a motu 16a and don't have the spdif coax option on it.

i know it's probably somewhere in this 29 page thread, but does this unit have optical spdif output or just coax?

I'm assuming you've second guessed on selling your console? just get a 24Ao and use it with the 16, that'll give you 16 in and 40 out, for less $, unless you think you need more inputs. The 24Ao specs better than the 16 as well if i remember correctly? Tony, what specs better? Same DA chips on these if I'm not mistaken?

No you don't need the AVB box. Read the manual, it answers. I could be wrong emrr but I think because he's on Windows he's stuck with USB? Do any Windows machines support avb like mac Yosemite does?

i have a workhorse and several vp28's. would you guys recommend:
1. using the workhorse summing by itself with 4 stereo groups being sent to it from the DAW?
2. doing the above with 2 vp28's inserted on the workhorse
3. just using a hardware insert to the vp28's on my 2bus in the DAW

just curious with all the love for the km84 why sdc's aren't frequented in the DIY community. are they more difficult to find the parts to? harder to put together because of their size?

the nvelope does crazy stuff a normal transient designer doesn't do. more a creative tool as well. i've been thinking about picking one up for a while. i vote for it and u can always supplement it with the built in transient designer of your DAW. FLUX Bittersweet is a good alternative and free.

maybe use a different DAW that doesn't depend on hardware dongles so much? or find some way of running Omnisphere on a mac mini or cheap laptop that syncs to your existing DAW. that should be easy to do via Midi Time Code/ Machine Control, and interface with lightpipe and some lightpipe cables. Motu Ultralites come to mind for $500... Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 is one of the best programs you can buy for issues like this. Offloads all the processing power too. Best of all, it works over ethernet. Lots of big boy film composers use this and I've been using it for the past several years with great stability.

i suggested a price of $1248 at perfectcircuitaudio because the 1248 should obviously be priced $1248. no brainer. they came back with $1277. just hit make offer button. maybe even try something lower see what they come back with. cheapest ive seen so far. just a heads up. good to know they do this as well. musiciansfriend always gives this 15% discount and even gave 20% on my Apollo Twin! Just depends on their margins, which tells me that there is significant markup on the UAD.

For the Cubase users, everything to do this is built into the program for their normal price for the software... Randge, what plugin in Cubase does this? I'm running 8.

yeah. they had a pickup that had a humbucker style system that covered the length of the soundboard. unique sound. you could also mic them up and they sound good that way too.
