Thanks Randge for taking the time on this. All right, listened to this on cheap computer speakers so take this with a whole bunch of salt. I heard this finished shine on both, especially on P2. Transients are heard nice and clear, even on P1 which it's simply stunning. I can't say they're completly clean, I like that added hi freq and low mid freq...but again I'm listening on cheapo speakers. The player is amazing BTW, beautiful dynamics and sense of space. Take care ericn I hope for the best.

baquin, that place looks incredible! Now you guys have me thinking.. and I almost forgot something, because I was mainly thinking of rooms in studios or gear in studios, but The Fillmore East was the Carnegie Hall of R&R. There was just something special about the sound there. I've been in a dozen beautiful auditoriums, some renovated costing millions of dollars, some maintained in their original glory, some torn and shabby, but no place I've ever been came close to the sound in that place. I used to take myself there when I was 11, 12 years old. I'd buy a ticket, get on a train from Brooklyn and land in another world, with the Hells Angels on the same block, Bill Graham outside shouting at them, and some of the greatest artists playing while I'm 15 rows back. I've seen Traffic, The Band, an Morrison, and so many other at least six times each. Front row seats for Black Sabbath, J. Geils, Ten Years After, and more.. * I just realized how strange it must sound that at 11 years of age I'd take a train by myself to a hard core neighborhood like the East Village in NYC at that time, but that's how it was here. Kids got on buses and trains all the time. We went to school that way, and it seemed perfectly normal. I used to travel by myself quite a ways when I was 9 years old. It's a different world now. That theater has been restored a couple times, because of earthquakes. I've seen a full range of acts there, from jazz to noise, really nice sounding place. They care about dB's, can't remember the limit, but it's more than fine to rejoice. That was a cool time to be there Martin John Butler, so many great artists around the corner. Here it was a little bit different, great places were only available to mediocre pop singers. Most of the bands played in small venues with crappy PA's. Now there's a plethora of good bands, and most places have a decent PA.

tonycamphd I'm not a FOH, but as a drummer if you want to have your snare & kick sound intact, a trigger on both of them will do the trick. You could use a Roland SPDS as your sampler, triggering directly the snare & kick. Then you send the out (Left-Kick, Right-Snare) to the FOH via DI. On the SPDSX it's more easy, because you have a "sub out" and you can bypass the master out so the FOH will have another dedicated out for your SPDSX and more samples can be triggered. There are other alternatives, but I've only used the SPDS and SPDSX which haven't failed once. Hope I'm being clear, feel free to PM.

Hey wiz kcatthedog not to be proud of, but here the USD is almost the same price as the Euro. Maybe we should go first ADC or DAC, later when the price goes down (it's only temp--as my economy teacher always said--) we can add either one. I'm pretty sure the shipping for a single card is gonna be cheap...I might be letting my imagination go way up.

Sadly, I've never been in a nice studio. Ever. As I've said before, Arizona is a desert in more ways than one. So I'm limited to posting a list of recordings. My current faves, in no particular order: Tom Petty - You Don't Know How It Feels (Wildflowers) Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out (the entire album) Led Zeppelin - The Crunge/Dancing Days (Houses of the Holy) Black Keys - Turn Blue (the entire album) Arguably, the first three are classic recordings, made at facilities that have become legendary (Sound City/Ocean Way/Columbia 30th Street/Island/Olympic/Electric Lady). Turn Blue, recorded mostly at Sunset Sound (of course, legendary as well), fascinates me because it has a brutal amount of low end, but still retains clarity. IMHO it sounds amazing, and has become a benchmark for me of what a modern "Rock" recording can sound like. I really liked The Black Keys' Turn Blue, but my fav is Brothers. That record has a thick snare sound, the kick sounds marvelous, the whole kit sounds brutal, as if I'm right there. They recorded those drums with only 4 mics (as Patrick said). I don't know how is that room, but it sounds great. They recorded in Muscle Shoals. There are quite great sounding studios here in Mx, but to be honest the best sounding place I've been into is called "Teatro Degollado" ...ehmm Beheaded Theater would be the translation. In almost any place you can hear every detail, just lovely. Here's a pic of the place capturaportal.jalisco.gob.mx/wps/wcm/connect/2a83f680413eef33ab09aba6de80135f/ZC_Gdl_Degollado4.jpg?MOD=AJPERES&CACHEID=2a83f680413eef33ab09aba6de80135fWard's idea seems legit, it would be great to have a concert hall or abandoned church or theater, ready to record with mics all over the place.

That's a great tip Jim thanks! It will be experimentation time, maybe using an amp with a decent reverb tank or some pedals or everything.

A bit off topic, but I want to place a Matador C12 pcb into the Avantone CV-12. While it's almost an Apex 460 or Alctron HT11-A, this one has a pad and hpf switch. I haven't paid that much attention, but maybe it wont fit. Anyone have tried it?

LOL! No, they can't vote. I think M57 is writing about changing the site's location, such as moving to another server/forum, because of moving the log in page(not sure I'm being clear). Personally, I like RGO. I'm still new here but there's so many great threads and members, it seemed silly not to log in and start asking questions. *Edit: already saw tonycamp's post and M57's. They're quick.

Have you tried to build the mix around the vocal? I'd do that if the vocal is the center of the song. If the vocal isn't the center of the song, then perhaps you could recut the vocal (if possible) with a different microphone to help it fit better in your mix. I would, but the singer doesn't want it front and center like a pop vocal. It's shoegaze type music and they want the vocals to seem like part of the music rather than the music supporting the vocals. Recutting won't happen either. it took us a month of weekends and a night a week to get the vocals because the singer gets too jittery in the studio, and we essentially built the vocals out of words and phrases. I used to be on a band that had a singer just as you mentioned...we recorded those vocals with words and sometimes phrases. It had that shoegaze vibe on vocals. Then, I remember the suffering from the poor mixing guy. Anyway, the vocal was recorded through a R84 into a Focusrite ISA 428 and sometimes a Langevin Dual Vocal Combo.

...If that is the case, i'd call it an unfortunate design limitation as each looks indepently controlled otherwise. Taking up 2 spaces with only one output is a bummer in 500 series stuff imo. Thats the main reason I sold my Great River 500 pre. I liked its sound and certainly there was no compromise. But, I felt a lost in real state...and then I stumbled on CAPI.

Again and again and again and again...I'm pretty sure everyone saw this squeeze-box.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Dumb_Meme.jpgNow, people is paying monthly or annually for a streaming service (without adds). Others just don't pay or simply go to youtube. I can't blame 'em for not paying even 1 dollar for a song. But, there's a lot of ignorance about the music industry. Most people believe, that if your music is on iTunes or a record store, you're doing "great". Another batch thinks that being a songwriter or musician or both is not a real profession. Corporations made 'em believe everything about music is just being a "rockstar" (whatever that means). Reality is misinformation, people need to be aware of how things roll on this side of the window. On paper, this looks nice www.spotifyartists.com/spotify-explained/ but it's only a small part of the whole enchilada. Just my 2c.

Amazing vocals Randy & Ashley, it's a million dollar voice you have. Jerome and Sinsay, you've just nailed and nailed it again. I think I'm gonna send you my poor Avantone for some major facelift. I liked better the clarity on Ashley's vocals, and while Randy's voice suit better the 251, personally I will feel limited about the tone(if the song is not right). Anyway, it's not that is not gorgeous sounding, just a matter of taste. I'm just telling the same as cowboycoalminer, but I feel the same. Kudos to everyone involved, time will tell if you've made history...I'm pretty sure you have.

Revive Audio are great, I bought a modded Altec|Lansing. I asked, what was the +48v config channel, they told me it was by groups of 4. I told 'em I was ok with it. When it arrived, they placed +48v in each channel(8), even when they told me it would cost more. Also because of shipping mistreat, the unit didn't turn on. So, after I sent them an email they offered me to solve the problem at no cost. But first, theh asked if I could open the top lid and see if something was out of place. After a quick check, the 220-110v switch wasn't in place...problem solved. They still offered free change of units(if available). So yeah I'll send 'em my Drawmer Dl241 to mod. Also Avantone is good, my CV12 stopped sounding good. Seemed like a capsule problem, after a quick email they told me to sent the whole unit for repair, no charge. I just need to pay for the shipping.

Looks like $600 for the mid eq and $775 for the comp. Fair prices, but not game changing prices. Yep, fair prices. Not that much of a turn on.

Used PT 8 for about a year, then tried Cubase 5 for about a week and never looked back. Years later, decided to upgrade to 7 but tried ST1 v2 and really liked the workflow and how quick I learned to use it. Cubase is still on rotation when a client wants me to work in it, so they can use the same session. It seemed crazy to me to spend tons of money to have more tracks on my sessions (PT) and use only their interface (Digi003). "What would happen if they decide to cut support next year?", those kind of thoughts were what kicked me out of Avid. I still use PT10 in a friend's studio and its fine. Haven't paid attention to the sound of each DAW, sorry for not comenting on that. But I've heard top notch results in each one of those DAWs.

Total recall, but still all the way analog. This looks promising too, wonder how much it'll cost. The Behemoth (love that name) hope it's an EQ with total recall (as a Bettermaker).

Only one way to find out.
I'd be thinking it would be hard to get a smooth surface, like baquin said it'd be easier with a frame of some sort. That way you could glue around the edges without saturated the Roxul on the face. Also, I don't know much about the properties of spray on glue but I would think that anything that significantly changes the breathability of the Roxul may affect it's acoustic properties somewhat as well. If I was going to try without a frame I'd look at the Knauf Ecose Black Acoustic board, it would probably stay a bit more rigid. The Mixmastered guy has free shipping right now and a lot of options as well as DIY supplies. He'll build to spec for reasonable also. Well, haven't thought about the glue and roxul, but it makes sense. How about using green glue? While it might dampen the roxul, it might work wonders as a floating floor or walls.

Haven't really tried to glue fabric to a roxul sheet. But, have tried with succes to glue thin wood sheets to roxul. I applied a quick coating of Scotch Super 77 spray glue on roxul. After a minute, placed the wood and put some pressure on, it's quick so no hassle. Fabric most likely be more difficult, because it's not rigid, but maybe with something pulling it on each side might do the trick...not so sure, to be honest. It's easier with a frame or backing.
