I really like the 441 for vocals, also Sm7 & RE20. It's hard to beat them. Just play with the mic position in your room and taylor the sound with the HP/Presence. Moving the axis of the mic a little bit will make a softer response in the 's' area. Sometimes I record demos for bands in their untreated rehearsal place. The 441 is usually the singers mic, low room tone, low bleed from other instruments. You may like using a Sm57 and the 441 at the same time. The thing is, you'll need tons of gain. Some singers find distracting hearing the room, so that helps, and you can later use the 57 for heavy FX. Let us know if it worked.

I am too!
Ditto on those features, I hope they add them. It would be neat if they add a phase button and gain knob on each channel, still I'm ok using the mixtool plug. Not sure if it's gonna be a Studio One 3 exclusive feat, but I read their newest USB3 interface is gonna be fully compatible via Studio One.
No subscription please and maybe $9.99 for the upgrade to ST 3 ha!

Purdie is one of my favs too! His shuffle groove is so tight and those ghost notes...
I've used a Sennheiser 441 with success under the snare with a SM7 on top. *Edit: Just saw ward's post, never done it with that surgical precision, but will do it.
Thanks Svart and donr, gonna place the 441 in that position.
I really like that fat snare sound watchtower. You should grab that Black Beauty, they're pretty good.

I use Voxengo Gliss EQ and really like it. I have not felt the need to read the manual, is gentle on the cpu too. While not in the same ballpark, the REDEQ from Acustica is something you have to try (it's free).

Can't tell personally for mixing, but a couple of friends use it with great success. The way I use it, is on live situations with a macbook pro. It's quick and reliable, have played an hour and a half sets without having any complications. I send a stereo track to the FOH, and for personal monitoring I route that same stereo track plus a click track. I have tried PT and Cubase on live gigs, but they have crashed in unexpected moments. Probably it's me, but they were not that easy to handle in live situations. A friend uses Live in a more complex way...I started writing how he uses it but it became confusing, I will ask him the details. Programming drums in Live is a piece of cake BTW.

Really nice Wiz! I like both versions, but the outboard one is stunning so natural (as almost everyone said). Don't know why your drums didn't make it whithout sampling, maybe tunning? Please do tell If I have missed personally thanking anyone who made a comment I apologise.... I have been through the thread a couple of times checking.. and think I got everyone... if not.. THANKS 8) Remember the song was an experiment. When I was processing the drums with the outboard, I went a little too far doing the 1176 "snare trick" and didn't like the way it sat on its own. It dragged the song down sonically... but blending it with a sample got it back. Toms, just didn't have the appropriate amount of "life" Mostly its me, I am a crap drummer... a good player would have made it different. cheers Wiz PS Bowie (my dog) is doing great.. he has recovered beautifully... and I am so relieved.. I love that little sucker.... Ohh I understand. Definetly can't comment using comp on tracking duties, haven't done it. Sometimes I get anxious on over doing a snare with compression while mixing (go figure). Forgive me if I'm telling you something you already know. Most of the times I use parallel compression on snare and everything gets back to normal. Maybe it's possible to use parallel compression while tracking, it could be easier to keep the vibe going (don't know if that may cause some latency). You have a console, it could be a piece of cake, though. Toms are a puzzle most of the times. Setting aside that drumming is not your forte. Maybe a different drumhead might help you. A 2 ply drumhead almost always do the trick, and for the bottom single or with a reinforcement dot in the center. Tunning toms is a hit or miss, there are a lot of things to be considered. A good starting point is tunning the bottom head tight and the top head medium tight. Sometimes floor toms like the top tighter than the bottom but it's not a rule of thumb. If you are interested in some intense tunning reading this will do www.tune-bot.com/tunebottuningguide.pdf Well, I hope that could have been of help for your next experiment. PS I'm glad Bowie is fine, sure thing, dogs are pure love

https%3A//soundcloud.com/baquinmandril/red12-drums Well I only could upload 1 file, but that's the way I use the RED12 on drums. The kit wasn't really tuned but you get the idea as I was in a rush (seems I'm always in a rush). Anyway the chain was simple: RED12-NEVE 1073LB-Motu 828 mk2. The Neve was on 30 dB and +5 Trim. If you hear some distortion, it's the snare wires in sympathetic vibration with the toms. I hope this could help in some way.

I only have one RED12 and find it nice and useful. Some things I've used it on: drums, some electric guitars, background vocals. I can manage to upload a couple of files tomorrow on drums of the RED12.

I just wanted to say I hadn't forgotten, or ignored you and I will respond in a couple of days..I see some value here... 8) cheers Wiz Worry not Wiz, Take your time, family comes first. I'd sell your avantone and get two studio 939 kits and Tim Campbell will provide two matched caps if you request them ! Thanks kcatthedog I think I'm gonna do that. It seems to be more work than it seems to mod the CV12.

Congratulations Tony, Winetree and everyone involved (cricket too), this is hands down awesome! Your time and wisdom spent is much appreciated. My C12 favorite was #1, now I have to figure out if I sell my Avantone CV12 or take the risk to mod it from the ground up. Any suggestions? JK's MKU47 and Winetree's U47 is something I haven't heard until now(first time hearing a working U47). There's some "wow" factor in those mics, not downgrading both BeezKneez which are really good too. Last but not least, the U87 was my favorite. Again both are incredible. Now I want one of each, maybe 2 C12s for OH's.

Post Tenebras Lux - It's a really good one. Kikujiro - It's a Japanese movie about a boy trying to find her mother, good times. Shower - Another favorite, it's a Zhang Yang movie, quite predictable but still enjoyable.

I used to run from 5 to 6 miles a couple years back. Then quit running because there was no time left...I hate waking early (5-6am) to do exercise, it's a pain. Last december I started running again, I was so off that couldn't do more than quarter a mile without stopping to catch my breath. It's all about taking it slow, start trying to synch your breath with your running pace, hold a second then release. For example, with every 4 steps you make, take a deep breath, then the other 4 steps relase. Don't worry about running long distances or being fast, walking in a steady pace and then run is good too. It should be no more than 15 minutes your routine when starting to run. Try doing this 3-4 times a week. Keep us updated
