I've always viewed impulse responses as similar to samples. With an impulse response, you are taking a "sample" of the room versus an algorithmic recreation of spaces that you have with D-Verb or Valhalla.

It would be cool to have the hammond and harm tracks to drop in my mix in progress.. I'd be happy to do that. What is the best way to do that?

I think you mean Soundtoys. I should use that plug more often. I love Soundtoys stuff.

Thanks. If I get a few minutes this week, I'll post a version with the harmonies mixed in better.

The harmonies sound way too loud on Soundcloud for some reason. I didn't mean to overpower Wiz.

Damn! I was a big ELP fan back in the day. The last year has been tough for those guys.

I picked up Pianoteq Pro 5 during the Black Friday sale. So far, I'm pretty impressed. I previously used Ivory II, which was nice, but this seems more real. I would still like to hear the Garritan CFX though.

Wiz, sorry for the delay in getting to this. I worked on the mix and laid down some Hammond today. I'm working on a solo. I'm also going to had a harmony on the chorus. I should have something later this week.

Thanks all. For some reason, I didn't see this back in 2015. I said you were good, I said you were smart, I never said you were quick 😎 Too true!

Not only do they not have any sound clips, but they really don't show where the mics are placed when he is finished. Is that KM84 going over the ride?

Ears (and voices) are funny things. I have all of these mics except the 441. I own two M88TGs and the only thing I really like them on is kick. I hear they are good on toms, but haven't tried them there. On my voice they are too bright and bring out some undesirable frequencies. They also seem very sensitive to plosives. Whereas with an SM7b or RE20, I can almost always get a useable vocal quickly. I probably should try out my M88s on some additional things, but to date, I've been a bit disappointed with them.

Update on the ATCs. It's been a busy year and I haven't done as much mixing as I would have liked. My initial reaction was that the ATCs didn't blow away my old Focal Twin 6s as much as I had anticipated. However, I'm finishing my first song that I recorded and mixed beginning to end using the ATCs. I like what I'm hearing. They really make you work to get rid of overlapping frequencies that clutter a mix. I am very glad that I have a sub to go with the ATC20s. Otherwise, I think I'd be guessing a bit with the bottom octave. I'll post a follow-up when I finish this song in the next couple weeks.

Thanks. I'm a horrible bass player, but attempt to play it on my own songs. I always struggle with strings ringing that I don't want to ring. I'll have to give this a try.

If I was extremely wealthy, I suppose I could justify the expense of a real 47 fet. I just can't see spending 3K for a mic that is largely thought of as a great outside kick and bass amp mic.

Gotcha, I got confused by the labeling. I thought these were close mics of the ride and hat. Great song! If I get some free time, I might try to mix a version and add some Hammond.

Cool tune, cool idea. I really like the sound of the drums. Do you always track without overheads?

Why the desire for different models on different drums? Just curious.
