Wow, I don't think I would be looking at the desk I appreciate that this is a comment made in good fun, but just to throw out there that it could be cool when there's a vid posted on this forum of an engineer or musician who is a woman that we don't need to comment on her looks/etc. It might make the forum feel a bit more friendly to our fellow engineers who are women. No offense to yotonic but I am glad you reeled in your original comment. Gena is a supreme badass engineer who has been working her butt off here in Nashville for many years. She spent her first year in town at Welcome To 1979 where she learned to expertly solder as well as tech/align any analog machine you can put in front of here. Her 2nd year or more was spent engineering for the legendary Michael Wagener. From there she spent 3 years working for Ben Folds at historic RCA Studio A. When Ben moved out and Cobb moved in, she stayed at RCA and enjoyed the crazy Cobb train working with Vance Powell, Matt Ross-Spang, Darrell Thorp and more. You will find her name on all of Cobb's work encompassing the last 2+ years as well as many other outside clients. She has 3 platinum album plaques hanging in her studio. One for each of Stapleton's records cut at RCA A as well as the GRAMMY "foamy" given to her by Vance. Her efficient engineering and always positive attitude makes her a pleasure to work with in the studio.

Thanks Jeff! Do some of these have different Opamps/Transformers for the source? I don't have a ton of experience with the Capi stuff, however this video piqued my interest, and I am certainly going to delve. We pretty much stick with red dots and Litz output transformers anytime we build the kit modules. The only thing that is different in this situation is Gena and I preferred the B bus on the SumBus which was SL-1731's and 2503-High Nickels. They work so well on electric guitars and have some perceived extra heft in the 100Hz area.

That's my friend Gena Johnson's place. Super awesome! Not being super familiar, what are the three modules of channels L-R-C? Do you mean what is everything in her desk?

We used the proto SR-3 on some electric guitars at my friend Colt Capperrune's place a while back. Stuff we tracked for another Platinum promo video. The SR-3 is incredible. Stagering tone for days. See what I did there?

The transformers and opamps used in the new Platinum series are exclusive and not sold separately. Are those platnium opamps reminiscent of anything or is this a completly new & fresh development by garry? They are Platinum Super Dot opamps designed and built by Scott Liebers. I have some descriptive text on my site about them. capi-gear.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=66_114_68&products_id=604

Yeah. Totally different transformers and opamps Can't a DIYer purchase and substitute the different transformers/opamps, or are they unobtanium? The transformers and opamps used in the new Platinum series are exclusive and not sold separately.

Just chiming in to say how much I’m enjoying reading about this. I’m using a D-Box today, usually into 2x vp28’s. Really has me thinking about a 16x2 setup. Not sure if the SB1 or SB2 is best for my workflow....gotta think on it and hope to see more people’s experiences before deciding! I am really not sure when the SB1 channels will be released. I would like to recoup some investment back with the SB2's first plus I have a bunch of other things that are more pressing IMO.

Hey folks, I just published a page with a few videos and a link to download session files to compare all of my preamps. This is the first in a series so we have more in the works. The page at my site is here capi-gear.com/catalog/Aud_vid_clips.phpIf nothing else, check out this video. The singer Charli Robertson is simply amazing and its a GREAT country song written by our very own fearless leader Johnkenn

Thanks man! I’m using an Avid HD Omni and an Avid HD I/O for D/A, then through the SumBus to a pair of VP28s with gar918 op amps and then to the Burl B2 A/D. I’ll try to put together a few more examples here soon! Ok cheers. So as I understand it, the sumbus loses 6db of level and you are using VP28s to make that back up. Have you tried it without the makeup? Is that level loss a problem and does it sound much different? I wonder if you just hit it harder, do you even need to make up the loss? Gosh it would be great if it was just a unity device, all in one box.. The concept of the SumBus is to create the complete 2-mix path of my vintage console. That is 2 stage summing. I have gain staged it just like my board. In order to keep the 2 sets of buses, there was no room for the post insert booster amps inside the SumBus frame. Sure you can hit the inputs a little harder but the idea is to replicate the complete 2-mix path of a vintage API so you need another active stage. To take it one step further, I don't think its the actual summing resistors that give us the glorious sound, its all of the analog circuitry that is before and after those bus R's that make the difference.

Yesterday's progress (6h:45m): - Carcass Build
- Meter Boards 1-4
The SumBus is starting to take shape. It's encouraging to see the PCB's living in a home now. For the meter boards, I found it most efficient to work on 4 and a time. I'd install all of the resistors on each board before moving onto the caps, etc.. etc...
Continuing on today with Meter boards 5-8.
Looking good!

Be careful using USB on something if you have not licensed it properly. The fees are massive. It is like $5k for the first year and $3500 thereafter...or something crazy.

Are those nickel laminations? No. Steel and Litz wire. The top keeper lam is powder coated silver. Pt-A = Platinum Assembled.

Isn’t this what we threw tea off the damn boat about? Politicians that we didn’t elect from other states/countries levying taxes on my goods? Again everybody was responsible for paying this on their state taxes for years, we all just got away with it because it would have been more expensive and impossible to enforce. This is the truth and most consumers don't know they are liable to remit their own state use tax.

Currently this new law is only for South Dakota. If a business ships over 200 orders OR $100k worth of merchandise into South Dakota there must be sales tax collected and remitted to South Dakota. The problem is, this will likely open the door for all states to say "me too".

Fake News? I saw the most amateurish performance on I've ever seen last night that was on a good stage with great lights and sound. The band's friends were cheering for a sadly off key "Singer/Songwriter", the "lead guitarist" did a solo in the wrong key, and everyone filmed it so they could post the only decent 15 seconds to look good on youtube. Here's a lovely simple recording with a C12, U47's and vocalists who can actually sing without auto-tune. The girl is on a C28 not a C12.

Not that he still couldn't or shouldn't use a SB after the CAPI Sumbus, but I believe the sumbus has it's own output gain and doesn't need any additional gain stages after. yes it does. Jeff says it needs +6dB of make up still. He is working on a Master ACA setup to have it built in. You can read it here: "The SumBus only contains the first half of the 2-ACA-Bo's signal path so technically the SumBus should be followed by a pair of line amps to makeup this 6dB. " "We do have a MasterACA in the works that will be a perfect solution for providing the 6dB of gain as well as mixing the four ACA outputs...and more! " capi-gear.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=217_219_220&products_id=594In a perfect world, 6dB of makeup gain is needed. BUT this is in a perfect textbook scenario. You can easily use a pair of VP28's, ML2's or whatever to get the 6dB OR you can simply hit the inputs of the SumBus a little harder and call it a day by just taking the ACA outs. The headroom in the SumBus far exceeds digital storage.

My introduction to BOC was from my older cousin's boyfriend who later became her ex-husband. Circa 1978. I was maybe 13 and visited their place for the first time after she moved out. She would have been 17 so he was 18 or 19. He had a crazy loud stereo system and put on the Spectres album. The leadoff track is Godzilla. I was never the same. I still get chills when I hear that song. Every bit as classic as Smoke On the Water or Paranoid or War Pigs.

Every picture I have seen so far shows a 2510 on each input so My budget might be blown I assumed 2520s stupid me. Right, I think they are Jeff’s DTO5 op amps on the inputs. I believe they are included and not extra like the 2520’s on the outs. Correct me if I’m wrong, though. Correct you are!

#16voltlife comes off the top ropes with a sideways, double man, body slam. Oh my root!! Those Coil stinkers texted me a couple of really good doctored up pics today. Freaking hilarious. Its up to them to share though. I gave them the green light but I think they are scared.
