Now I know why I forgot all about it. I installed it and it doesn't show up. Neither in Logic 9 nor in Logic X. No WatKat, even though the AU Manager shows that it is installed and active. I now remember that I had this problem before and I finally gave up on it. Guess I'll have to look for a real one again. That's annoying. Is working problem free on vst

how did you find the focusrite. I'm renting this one for 6 months then i'll ditch it. I needed usb so the scarlett was not an option. otherwise that's what I would have tried. I have a session in a weeks time where i'll track a full band then overdub vox and some strings. will see what happens. Those little Scarletts kind of blew me away. They are just so easy to use, and they have all the right features. I recommend them to my friends. The sound quality was slightly on the low fidelity side, but just barely. Really good for the price. When I tried the Clarett, I was like, aha, here's that Focusrite all grown up with a bow tie on. Only makes me wonder how good the Red series could be. that's great to know. I meant to write claret in my post, that's the one I couldn't use because it has no usb.

It's ironic when the people telling us the tools don't matter in the final outcome are also trying to sell us tools. Ah,, no offense, but I feel that is a misrepresentation. It seems to me Steven is not saying tools don't matter, but that they only matter to the extent to which they help the artist create their vision and he doesn't care which you use. Of course, he can share what it is about his products that he believes adds that value, but give the guy some credit, you can try 100% of his plugs ins any month for the price of 5 coffees , 2 beers, 1 bottle of wine or less then when I take my kids to mcdics: how much more opportunity can he give you to prove him wrong ? no offence taken.
but that is exactly what was said. That is Stevens mantra, hi philosophy. I don't have any issues that he feels that way. for me its great he openly talks about these things because it helps me to understand what drives his products.

finally I've got myself a mobile rig. this is not to make money or start up a business. it's to be able to record mates/friends/fun people in random places.
the setup is.
focusrite 18i8 with a surface pro 2 and a RMA dual beast via spdif for me to monitor. ie. 8 channels in and 2 channel out not including muso fold back which is via 2 stereo feeds to a Behringer ha8000 with 5 headphones.
so 4 pres onboard the focusrite + 3 channel lunchbox with 4x diy 500 series pres and 1 vocoloco plus a 500 series comp and 2x500 series eq
8 stands with minimal mic collection. some dynamics, condensers and a ribbon.
some pads, active di, passive di, 9v pedal power packs, ac boards, a table and a roll of gaff.
I can fit the entire setup in my back pack if I leave the table at home.
obviously I need a bigger 500 series rack but other than that.
what should I include.

I'm more interested in how this all sounds than the philosophical discussion. A little philosophy's fine, but I'd like to know more about the mics. Steven, I mentioned earlier that I thought having Slate VMS events at studios would be a great way for people to see and hear this for themselves. UAD recently had a great event at a studio in Brooklyn, hosted by Alto Music, and it was a blast. Each artist chooses how best to get where they want within their means. Sometimes the lack of means helps the art forward, sometimes hinders. Slate digital is offering a comprehensive system that will suit many people well, and for those it doesn't, no harm done, so why worry about it. the point is that when you design something what is not obvious to most is what philosophy was used during the design process. ultimately it's the philosophy behind the design that creates the outcome. I put it to you that with all of the gear you own it's the philosophy behind the gear that you are actually hearing. whether it's analogue or digital doesn't matter.

Hi Gouge, perhaps I should clarify my statement because we might actually be in agreement. Yes, the way to get there matters but only to the person on the road. Meaning... if a guy uses a laptop to make great art, then someone who uses racks of gear and tape really doesn't have the right to tell him he's "wrong", and vice versa. Cheers, Steven yeah, that's not what I meant.

this is where I differ stevenslate and why I don't get into some of the stuff you say or sell. to quote you. "If the end result makes people happy, then the road to get there matters little to me"
whilst I agree the end result is what we are striving for it is obvious to me that the road getting there matters greatly. that's art for you. call it gestalt. the end result is informed by the means getting there. this is why artists choose particular studios or certain bits of gear when creating art. thin pen, fat pen etc.

the list of what this thing can do is seriously impressive.
JANUARY 19, 2017 – Anaheim, CA. Today Lynx Studio Technology introduces the Aurora(n) line of A/D and D/A converters defining a major leap forward in the performance level, flexibility, channel count and features available in the converter/interface market. Representing the largest product offering from Lynx, the initial fourteen models will include models boasting up to 32 channels at 24 bit/192K with connectivity options to include Thunderbolt, USB, Dante and ProTools | HD all in a single rack space. Designed to accommodate today’s needs as well as future requirements for the audio professional, the Aurora(n) features an I/O platform that can be uniquely configured using different modules. The first three of these modules will include a pre-amp, an analog summing and a digital (AES3+ADAT) module to be released in 2017. As with current Lynx products, a host of new features and capabilities will continue be added periodically via firmware updates. All units include a unique onboard micro SD player recorder capable of up to 32 channels of direct recording and playback designed for confidence and field playback and recording. In addition two audiophile grade headphone outs and a new1-in 3-out Word clock I/O sporting Lynx’s exclusive second generation SynchroLock-2 sample clock technology are on every unit.

not much to be sceptical about with lynx. their aurora has pretty much destroyed the competition for the past 10+ years. there is no hype, no hyperbole just a rock solid product ahead of almost all others. it's taken this long for the competition to catch up. that's how good lynx are.
what they don't do is bring out a new product every 12 months and tell you it's the new best thing or offer you a bunch of vouchers.
lets put this into perspective. the aurora was introduced over 10 years ago and has only just been replaced.

I had to cut my list at late 18 because going to music school and being formally introduced to jazz COMPLETELY changed what I listened to. I'm pretty sure not one of my records got a spin once I hit 19. Strangely enough, I didn't have a record player in college; it was all tapes, so I was in effect building my library from scratch. By the time I got out of college (and could afford to buy music), I think CDs were on the horizon, and I didn't want to get screwed in the format wars, so I pretty much laid low for a couple years with my tapes and as a result haven't purchased vinyl since high school ..in the late 70's. I didn't realize there was other genres besides jazz until I was 15.
