Well I got slammed at work and dropped off the gear train for a minute. Then I got the spring reverb bug and put my $$ in to a zerotronics, which I don't have yet. But I'm back on snare mic patrol. I guess I'll get a sontronics and an m80 and a couple of those mods that J Steiger mentioned made by the mogaine guys. why not? Am wondering how you got on with your snare mic hunt Noah, Did you end up trying the mogaines.

You make it sound like America is the only place in the world.
Why not change what you are looking at if you don't like the picture.

I'll only pitch correct something if it bothers me. DP's pitch editor is great for spot fixing something. I've had AutoTune for several revisions, and AutoTune 8 is pretty good if you don't go rad on it. I don't think vocals I mix sound 'tuned.' There's still plenty of rub and nuance in there. But they are. I'm convinced everyone does it, whether you notice it or not. Don, I can't say that I ALWAYS notice it, but what I do DEFINITELY notice is that a lot of "modern" music strikes me as being far more devoid of real feeling than it should be. To me that's a tipoff that it's probably tuned, whether is "sounds tuned" or not. "Pertfection" is bad art. The master rugmakers of Persia always incorporated at least one minute flaw intentionally, because god (or whaqtever deity, force of nature, etc. you might choose) abhors perfection. As the great, immortal Chester Atkins once said "Leave the clams in, it shows you're human!" And Autotune (Melodyne, etc.) doesn't run on my Studer. If it's bad enough to stick out like a sore thumb, retrack the part or punch in. If it isn't, leave it alone. I'm completely onboard with mistakes making it human. growing up in a house full of jazz I was taught to celebrated the mistakes. that and don't forget the key. but that's not what i'm gunning for here. i'm looking for subtle. if I can hear it I don't want it and that's why i'm searching for something better than what I currently have. can't say I know where i'm going to draw the line though. lots of music I listen to is heavily treated with pitch shifters, chorus etc. kurt cobain on nevermind, jello Biafra and the melvins. none of those artists are pop inspired. I like tape too. Up until recently I was tracking through tape when I could. Everything I did that way sounds better for it. must get that deck working again.

Melodyne looks very good.
Currently I use the mautopitch plug. It is hit and miss but used on a double it adds some thickness but i'd like something to try on the frontline vocals.

Well I've a feeling a lot more people use it than admit it.lol I will add that sometimes little flaws ,inaccuracies are to me what give music feel, soul, whatever you want to call it. But as stated below Melodyne has saved my ass I've had that same discussion so many times with my music partner. 100% agree.

Hi, all. I'm looking in for a hardware tape delay to integrate into my setup. Is anyone using something modern, e.g. T-Rex Replicator or Space Case? Or should I be looking for something on the older side, like a space echo? Is there anything else out there I should keep my eyes on? Looking for sound first and reliability second. Cheers! Tommy The Fulltones sound killer in this video... oh my this video is worth a million hours in the studio. thank you.

Well that's it I am OFFICIALLY done.! (maybe). Last bit's: 3U audio G267FET and a Warbler 1. Progressive pack for Superior Drummer. Whole of the T-racks suite from IK. There is a Neumann U87AI for sale with a couple hundred dollars off it because the box has been opened or something, quite interested. Although, brought some peeps round for a couple of beers (well a soft drink for me) and one of them is a sound engineer, the other a musician and the final one is like a piece of furniture. How long have you been here? About 2 hours.! Oops.! Anyway, out of some listening tests nobody could really tell the difference between the Warbler 1 and the Fet. I did use monitors / can's etc. Then we compared U87 clips to the Warbler 1, I've never seen such a mixed bag. Two of them again couldn't tell the difference and proceeded to get it wrong constantly, myself and another dude managed to guess it right 4 / 5 times, but again we really did struggle and they did say to me there isn't a justifiable difference. Doesn't mean I won't buy it, just that the 3U Audio's will get more use and the U87 would come out for more ambitious projects or if I decided to record others again. I would like to challenge your officially done with the words... Hairball Lola.

not much really. it's turned into a bit of a love fest because we are all addicts.
there are quite a few people that don't like the sm59. it peaked my interest when I read that Frank Sinatra disliked it so much he tried to smash one into the stage.

problem for the sm59 is that the re15 and 16 are flat with some top end.

in Australia the neutrik male to female adaptor is between $16-$22 generic version is $6. I've made a few U-pads with the generics costs around $10 each. that said I've got some blanks here and the resistors so gas may have come over me.....
