The Kush Clariphonic MS showed up yesterday. I had to move some stuff around to rack it where I can reach it. I've no idea why it was a b-stock. There are no noticeable issues. Maybe it was a return they had to replace something on... I don't know. I'm happy to get it for $700 off full price though. I'll play around with it tonight or tomorrow.
Sweet rack!!! Where's the Stam stuff? The integrity and honesty bars I expect companies to meet are too high to rack any of his gear. And I should probably point out that dbx preamp is something I bought to test the 500 rack. I recently purchased that Bender assembled it for me. I ordered a psu from CAPI and I bought those used Neve 542s. The whole thing died on me after a few hours and I wasn't sure where the breakdown happened. I was worried those Neve units might have issues because they were the only non-new things. Turns out it was a bad psu. CAPI replaced it and I've been fine ever since. At some point in that process I bought that preamp for around $100 to test the rack. I wanted something cheap in there just in case there was a bigger issue. I didn't want to fry the Neves if there was.

I can't remember now who mentioned this in one of the Stam threads, but I think it's probably true: Josh seems to pay more attention to folks who speak out publicly about not getting their product. It sounds like there have even been instances where someone jumped ahead in line due to being vocally critical in a public forum. Not sure if that's true or not, but I've heard that mentioned a few times now. What stinks about that (if true) is that those of us who are averse to airing grievances in public suffer as a result. I am not one to publicly besmirch another person or company if I can help it; I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. It's true. Josh admitted to jumping complainers to the head of the queue in the 1073EQ GS thread. I was banned from the thread last night so my posts and any posts quoting me disappeared. Someone was kind enough to send me screen caps so there's the proof. Yell loudly and ye shall be served (ahead of those waiting longer).

I got an email from Chris telling me "the iron is on the way" so he should have more of these ready to ship soon.

...stop gloating when things aren't going well for others. I haven't seen that from anyone. No doubt I've been the most critical of Stam but I don't get any happiness in seeing other people ensnared in this mess.

I didn't cancel my orders because of the wait time. Waiting for gear is not a new experience for me. I've waited for gear plenty of times in the past. I cancelled because of the constant lying. The dishonesty became intolerable.

Reading all the GS Stam threads is such a downer. Makes me feel reeeaaal uncomfortable again about having money in all these preorders. Tim from Buzz Audio has even chimed in over there with some valid concerns as well. Someone was saying the photo of the 670 was recycled from an old post of the prototype. If so, that’s pretty deceptive of the Stam guys. But maybe it’s a new photo... Those photos were posted because someone was asking Stam to post photos that would verify the claim that they had 20 people doing assembly now in order to get units out more quickly. None of the photos showed a shop full of people assembling units. Josh also admitted in that thread that he's moving complainers to the front of the line so he's not shipping out in the same order as orders were received.

...SNIP... and I really need to stop spending money. Oh we've all felt that way. Don't worry, it will pass Before or after I take up residence in The Poor House? I'll be living here with great gear.

Just ordered a b-stock Kush Clariphonic MS off their website. $1300 instead of $2000 was too good to pass up. It's a pretty swanky piece of gear and I really need to stop spending money.

I'm curious too. I've yet to hear a summing mixer that made me think the improvement was worth the investment. Granted, everything I've heard has been of the "economical" variety with the exception of the Dangerous Music 2-BUS+, but I'm not sure how much of what impressed me was the sound of the summing or the extra features it has that other boxes don't.

Did Slate do an April Fools thing today? Doesn't the VMS cover that for the remainder of his lifetime?

In regards to the buisness model of avid, as a user, are you resentful of the subscription based format they have chosen to use? I resent them much less since they stopped tying us to their hardware.

This may further lower folks opinion of me, but one of the things I'm looking forward once I move down to Asheville is getting some clawhammer lessons.

Based on how cute that puppy dog is, I'd have to say "AU..." (like the the plugin format, but pronounnced "awwwww.....") ;-) Banjo is a great little pup. When I'm home, he's on my lap or by my side nearly all the time.

My dreams of a real Curve Bender will have to go on the back burner for now. But I negotiated a great deal with VK for an elysia xfilter. I've no idea if that will beat out the Curve Bender plugin. We'll see.
My checkbook just said...

I think you’d best save for a curvebender if you want that sound. My checkbook just burst out in tears.

I own a few banjos. I have a Reiter Round Peak and a Recording King that I put nylon strings on. But my favorite banjo is my Banjo. But he's not a vst and although he makes sounds, I wouldn't call him musical. He's pretty damn cute though.

Thanks jcoutu1 and @hermetechmastering. If I'm understanding it correctly, something like the Curve Bender would have a switch whereas the xfilter would have a detented potentiometer, and the former is a of a higher quality and more precise than the latter.

I guess there are so many steps that turning the knobs appear smooth in the videos. I think I may roll the dice on one of their 500 modules if I can get it for the right price.

I still don't understand the difference or how I'd tell one from the other. Is there a tactile difference when using them? Is there an auditory difference?

The Stam 87 is in stock... There have been stories about tremendous delays in shipping from products the website listed as "in stock."

Also, don't confuse stepped with switched. One is cheap and not so accurate, the other expensive and can be very accurate. Can you explain the difference please. I've never heard of "switched."
