I honestly wouldn't buy anything! I did a mix recently that just wasn't happening. Plenty of UAD stuff on there. Some SSL plugs, FUSE ect....Wasn't bad, just wasn't coming together the way I wanted. Decided to give the mix a fresh shot on my work computer. All I have at work is Reaper and stock Reaper plugs. Also using a freaking mki scarlett and mki JBL305's. Obviously, I knew the song really well at this point, but I made a mix that sounded equal and better to what I was doing at home on my several thousand-dollar setup. Wish I could go back in time and just make myself learn how to mix better lol. It would have saved me lots of money. Of course, for certain projects, all my fancy gear and plugins come in handy, but for this particular track, simple was the way to go.

Got my second Iron Age LH95 the other day. Such sweet eq's. Used them to "open up" a really nice demo someone sent me to master. It was mixed great, just had that blanket over the speakers thing happening. The LH95's worked perfectly.

Really liking the Audioscape here. Agree with smashlord. The stereo adjust knob is really cool. You can dial in more or less compression with it, and it does seem to alter the tone a bit more.

It’s so important to notice the signs. My brother had a very bad stroke last year. Sending good vibes. Glad you’re ok!

I bought a Redd about two months ago. I haven’t had the opportunity to track an entire project with it yet, but I am enjoying experimenting with it on different sources. Here’s a couple thoughts I have so far….Killer on bass di. Round and punchy with lots of harmonics. I run a boost pedal into the di and crank the thing with my electric guitar and get some awesome fuzzy di tones. It’s pretty amazing. On acoustic guitars it adds a presence that I normally don’t get with other pres. As a matter of fact, overall I’d say that it definitely has more presence than other pres I’ve tried. I am curious to see how a bunch of tracks would stack in a production, but I haven’t gotten there yet. Interested in other people’s thoughts as well! Attached is a little snippet of the di guitars. No processing! www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/kfjcbbs4pnm7aolixf03y/Most-Excellent.wav?rlkey=74q419dzbek30ao0ggcysn5wu&dl=0

Firewood piano is my go to for that thing. It’s like 29 bux from spitfire audio.

Had 8 channels of DAV at one point. Killer killer pres. Super smooth, clean and punchy. Miss them.

I just got an Audioscape v3a, and it’s pretty fantastic. No idea how it actually compares to the original, but it’s a fantastic compressor!

If you like them, and they work for you, I wouldn’t change. Maybe keep them and get another pair of something just to see how they compare. But if it ain’t broke….

Can only go by what I’ve used… In no particular order 1. Pete’s Place BAC (I’d love to try the Serpent, but I’m very very happy with the BAC) 2. Iron Age LH95 (My favorite eq at the moment) 3. Audioscape V3A (Opto goodness. Just excellent) 4. CAPI Preamps (Don’t own any at the moment, but they’re on my list) 5. Helios pre and eq. 6. SSL bus comp

I had them mod my original motu828. It actually sounded pretty good after the mod.

Beautiful setup with all the essentials. What kind of desk is that nick8801? Not quite sure! I bought it from a friend who was redoing their studio. He said it came from a guitar center display that was set up by Yamaha.

How are you liking the chroma console? Fun and useful or just gimmicky ? Little bit of both! I love it on guitar and keys for really transforming a sound. It may not stay…we will see.

Funny enough, if everyone was positioned correctly around the mic, you could easily record an entire ensemble with just a Royer SF-12 or any of it's relatives! I've done it a few times, and it was amazing! Here's one example: Artist: Big Bill Morganfield, I was going for a old school blues vibe. Drums Bass 2 x guitars Big Bill on Vocal Was exactly what the doctor ordered! This is awesome. Sounds great in mono too!

Cool. Don't think of them as "these should sound good" even though they do sound fine.. Think of them as "anything that sounds good on them will translate well" almost like NS10 earbuds, but without the painful 2Khz.. They're very neutral. Just ordered a pair! I always throw on my old earbuds to check mixes when I’m done in the studio, but the ear buds have that stupid Apple connection, so I can’t actually use them in the studio. For 10 bucks, it’s totally worth a shot! Thanks for the recommendation!

The buzz stuff is made really really well. I doubt you’d run into issues with it.

I used to love my Buzz SOC for that exact purpose. I foolishly sold it, but I did just grab an Audioscape 3a. It’s really excellent as well. They both add opto “glow”.

Let me guess…using the Amphion amp? Remember when they sold them with that 100w pos class d amp? They would demo the monitors and bookshelves with their own amps at shows and stuff and they sounded awful, like worse than the HS8, and were really better on any more powerful amp but I still don't like sound but that's preference. One year I went to their display at AES. All the passive radiators were blown from people cranking them up too loud. I was really interested in them up till that point. After that I just couldn’t do it.
