I love my sm7, but if I only had one mic for everything maybe the ksm32? Tough call! I’ve never tried the sm7 on acoustics!

The headphone thing is a known issue on the older n’s. They have to replace that card. Unfortunately they do charge for it. I happened to be installing the 4pre module at the same time, so they were cool and fixed the headphone issue without charging for it.

I didn’t realize they were doing a dedicated monitor out card now. Looks cool!

A while back, I posted some comparison loopback files between an Apollo X6, Motu 828es, Lynx Aurora n, and a Cranesong HEDD Quantum. Pretty sure that thread is one of the reasons I ended up with the Lynx.

I also picked up an extinct audio bm9 recently. Can’t wait to try it on my horn.

I work with one of the great trumpet players in my country, and he insists on a Coles ribbon > to the point that I convinced him to buy his own so he could walk into any studio and get the sound he loves. That’s awesome. The Coles is pretty magical. I’ve gotten very very similar results with my fathead lundahl. The Royer never sounds cool to me. Like it’s great for big section work, but for a soloist it feels a little too natural.

Trumpet player here…I love a good ribbon, but sometimes they can be a little dark so I’ll throw up my Warm47. Both work great.

It's not about a "safe space". I never said that. Please don't put words in my mouth. You're coming off as not such a nice person. A little kindness goes a long way. I'm a veteran educator, so I am well versed in telling the truth, however the way in which it is delivered often determines how effective it's message will be.

Can't really go wrong with either of them! I forgot to answer your mixing question...Lynx's N control software takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, you can dial up a nice template to integrate all your outboard. I have one setup for tracking, and one setup for mixing. It's actually really useful, as you can set it up in multiple ways, depending on your workflow. The Burl is much more straight forward. But I think a mothership would be much more expensive than Lynx on a per channel basis. I'm just rocking an 8 channel btw. That's more than enough for me, but the fact that you can get 32 channels into 1 rack space on the Lynx is pretty awesome.

The reason I come to this forum is because of all the great people. I never feel judged, and even people with way more experience and talent are willing to share and discuss things with me. No one is saying you can’t have an opinion, but calling someone’s work sub par on a public forum is pretty classless if you ask me. I’m very sorry if you’re going through a rough spot, but that doesn’t excuse that kind of behavior.

I have an Aurora N which I think is pretty close the Hilo. A friend of mine has the HEDD. I've never directly shot them out, but both are pretty incredible. Whichever one you get; I don't think you will feel the need to upgrade. I’m in a quandary between getting an Aurora N or a Burl Mothership B16 for 8 channels of hybrid mixing. Have you compared the two? Which lends itself best to mixing? I’m touch concerned with the Burl I’m stuck with transformer colouration, which might be nice for tracking at times but too much for hybrid channel mixing? Thanks I used to have a B2 with my old Apollo. I much prefer the Lynx. But, you can run those Burls clean if you want. You just dial back the output control.

Well, anyway I'll find out tomorrow. Pair of $15.5K monitors on their way tomorrow, they'll either blow me away or I'll be seriously underwhelmed. Either way, I'll know where I stand.. What did you order?

Hmmm....first of all, good choice on the Kurt Elling. I would eliminate some variables? Maybe take the Trinnov out of the equation? When I used to run Sonarworks, it would change the volume. Do you have the Lynx mixer for the computer? That do have levels for every out on there. It's a possibility that it's turned down. Maybe try going Lynx just out to your monitors as well. No monitor controller just to see?

Still happy with 12’s, thought at all about a sub ? Yes! Got a sub like a year ago maybe? It’s an Adam. I forget which model. I like it. Really completes the “picture” of the music. It’s just dialed in enough to hear that bottom octave in the music. I also ditched the P1 a while back. Mine was having some issues with the LED’s, and while it was getting repaired I picked up the Behringer class D amp. I know it’s sacrilege, but I liked it better. Cleaner, punchier and like 10 times cheaper than the P1. P1 was beautiful sounding from what I remember, but it didn’t wow me for the price.

I use the Ozone dynamic all the time. It's most useful to help control bass or presence peaks. It can be really subtle, but it helps my compressors and final limiter to work the way I want them to.

Never compared the two but if you’re looking for a LA3A sort of thing I can recommend the JLM LA500A. After reading very positive reports about them for some years I’ve just built one and I can say the same. You can buy them built also. They are a really nice’3A style flavour with some more versatility than the original. Excellent support from the owner Joe Malone as well. I own a few of their pieces now and like them all very much. Nice…I actually just grabbed one of the Audioscapes on Reverb. Looking forward to checking it out! I also talked to Warren at Zenpro today. Apparently Xqp are not really making the optical compressors anymore so that ended that search!
