OK, pray, do tell! What's what here? The A file sounds a bit better to me- although I'd probably EQ out a little of the low end in a full mix.

I prefered B and C. They had more bottom end. Otherwise they both sound fine.

Not being critical because this sounds better than 95% of the acoustic tracks I get from studios - but there’s some washiness in the top...could be SoundCloud.

The WAVs sound better, of course. I also usually work a little harder to get a good sound. I'd usually run through the Harrison EQs, do some very slight dip somewhere and a little HPF. For this test, I just wanted to hear the raw mics pointed right at the usual spot to see how they stacked up on raw capture, if that makes any sense.

I said on GS one has a bit more Kahuna's (A on the first test) and that it's an absolutley cracking recording. Although TBH for me there isn't a whole lotta difference in them, you could probably interchange one for the other with a bit of EQ or proximity.
How far we've come over the last decade, one of these mic's I'd of dismissed out of hand due to the price.

Sounds lovely, Ragan. Great sounds. A seems a little flatter and maybe more transparent to me. B seems to have more lows going on that help me hear the wood of the guitar nicely. The top and upper mids have kind of a silkyness to them as well. Depending on the mix I could use either. I prefer B though in solo.
I imagine a nice picked jazz bass or rick bass with some dry 70s drums going too. In that instance I might prefer A.

I feel like C is also B and A is D. I feel the same about them at least. Good ole night moves.

I'm going all in and guess that A & D are an ISK Pearl and that B & C are a 3U CM100

Sounds great, do you mind if I ask what mic's you used on the raw capture ?

Regarding cheap mics, I wouldn’t be afraid of using my lowly Avantone CK-1 on acoustic guitar if my KM84 wasn’t available.

So what’s the twist?

Plot twist: no guitar, that’s ragan practicing for his a capella group.

I'm betting that one is some ridiculously low end mic like a MXL603 or something.. But in all honesty, I'm not hearing much difference between any of the tracks. It would be funny if they were the same mic over and over just to see if people would choose a "favorite" even though there are no differences..

When I first heard B after A I thought it was tremendously better. Went back and listened to A again and realized I wasn’t sure if there was any difference at all. Still think B is a little fuller.

I can PM anyone who wants to know. It isn’t meant to be a “twist” or anything, just a comparison.

B is better
C and D is closer than a convertor shootout

B is better C and D is closer than a convertor shootout Interesting. Listening blind, I had a clearer preference between C and D then I did between A and B.

I didn't listen to C or D, but putting A and B into DAW made me wonder if it was the same thing with something like phase rotation applied.
