Some of the Soyuz 013 through Jeff's CAPI VP28.
I apologize for waning chops. That I probably never had... Really nice. It occurs to me that most of the SDC I like have good low end, and minimal top end spike. Thanks!
Yea totally. The low end on these is really "there". I listened to these clips on my stereo in my shop last night and though, man I wouldn't do anything to these sounds here. It sounds totally listenable already.

Exponential Nimbus room and hall on this.
Could be better but injuries have a way of interfering with practice.
Hopefully my untreated room doesn't ruin the sound. I mic'd this back about 16 inches. There is noise floor noticeable here on the fingerstyle nylon string. Not sure if these would be my first pick for quiet/distant mic applications.

Outstanding. Thanks for sharing! This is good stuff. Just listened for my 3rd time. Feel like we should start taking requests now... ;-)

You are too kind! Thank you.
Haha. As long as you are ok with "Green Green Grass of Home" ending up as row row row your boat, then maybe I can take a few requests lol.

This sounds really great, man! Thanks so much for sharing! You are kind to say so. Thanks for checking it out. I will hopefully have some more clips and maybe a tune this weekend. Curious to see how this mic does on guitar amps and some other things. Maybe kick and snare.

Sounds great, nice playing. I probably wouldn't have even noticed the noise floor had you not mentioned it, pretty negligible and a bit of Izotope RX would take care of that if need be.

It does have a lot of gain, so distance mic situations might be tricky. I like the gain, it gave me a cleaner sound with less noise than the KM84 when I used it in my apartment. So far, the 0-13 is the only SDC I've heard that has that kind of "ack ack" transient sound the KM84 does. It's different, but similar.

The real surprise for me so far besides the great sound overall, is how it sounds on my Tweed style amp for guitar. Doesn't respond like most condensers to me. Has plenty of low end, is real smooth and and I couldn't get it to sound too bright no matter where I put it.
Save for my old '84 TLM 170s, I haven't really had luck with condensers on guitar cabs. Well, that isn't true. I had a Peluso p67 that was good on guitar cabs, and the ADK Z67 I had for a minute was amazing on my amp here. Just crazy smooth and lovely.
These Soyuz aren't too unlike that sound honestly.
Anyway. Trying to listen back to a few things I recorded to see if they'd embarrass me if I posted them. I will report back later.

That reminds me, I loved the 0-13 on my small guitar amp. I liked it way better than an SM57. I don't know if that would be true in front of a loud amp though. I never had a chance to try that.

Martin,
Warren Huart used the 013 on an electric guitar amp, and i thought it sounded great. Look up his YouTube video.
I think there is something about the transformer in these microphones that are saturating beautifully and rounding things out.

Here are some clips I made today of my Gretsch Electromatic 5120 with my own Filtertron style pickups in it. Muleskinner Tweed Prince with a 12" speaker.

And some straight up acoustic strumming on a Yamaha dread. I'll have to get my Eastman OM out.

You know, with all this free advertising, you’d think they wouldn’t pass on buying an ad on here...but why buy the cow when you’re getting the milk for free?

Weird, and no 011 now, maybe they just renamed the 011 the 013 Tube? And no solos any more, only pairs?

My understanding is that they discontinued the 011 and replaced it with the 013 tube which is supposed to be identical but with the ability now to directly swap capsules with the 013 fet. The 013 fet is unchanged AFAIK.

The 013 fet is unchanged AFAIK. that’s a smart move by Soyuz. The different model names for these small condensers were confusing.

Well, I'll have to get the voodoo book back out. There are usually some gastrointestinal side effects as well, but if you are ok with all that...

So, upon hearing the warmth of the Soyuz 013 on electric guitar, I decided to put my favorite amp mic against it. These were recorded simultaneously through a pair of VP28s. The inputs are set the same but the outputs are used to compensate, so there will be some difference there. The 013 had it's pad installed as it was breaking up.
I find it fascinating how different these mic's sound on something like acoustic guitar, and how similar they sound on my amp. It makes some sense to me as the amp is lofi so the highs aren't really there.
I feel like you get more lows, and some of that "ribbon thing" that I can't describe with the AEA. The Soyuz isn't lacking in the lows at all though. You can hear a little more detail on the Soyuz. Where the top might be a little too airy(noise from the amp) you can easily eq that out. I used Pro-Q3 with a 6db/oct low pass filter around 10khz and the sounds of the two mics got even closer. I like on the ribbon how it seems to automatically focus the sound on what the amp is giving, lows to upper mids but not much else, along with smoothing things a bit.
The Soyuz gives a similar sound but with more detail if I want that. And on top of that, I find that the AEA anr Soyuz 013 play really nice together when you use both signals in the end. Some mics do not play well together. Honestly the r84 and 57 together on my amp has never worked for me, I guess because they sound so different. These two seem to get quite a good sound together.
I'm not used to playing my Tele right now with 10s on it (using 12s and 13s lately on other guitars) so there is some struggle to calm down on the technique.
BUT it is my fantastic T style Coop guitar with my own pickups, of course. Muleskinner Tweed amp again. Beautiful VP28s into Lynx Aurora (n) into Reaper. Dang I need to build more CAPI.
