They sound great. Be sure to check out the whole playlist for upright bass, vocals, sax, guitar, trumpet, kazoo etc. Ok no kazoo but I can do that when I get mine.

My buddy Marc at Soyuz hipped me to these clips they recently made. Now I need some. That sounds nothing like drum overheads. That sounds like close mics on drums only. Just saying what it sounds like, for better or for worse!

Could it be that the snare was made beefier/rounder by the Burl transformers? I was considering this as well. They round things. However, I think Pueblo pres are very clean if I recall, so it sort of comes out on the wash in my mind. Sort of the inverse of using Neve pres into clean ad. I know it's not the and but... Iron.

Do you think I could get one signed by Vladamir? Maybe a KGB edition?

Yes. So many times, yes.
Maybe we could photoshop him riding an 013? With a beautiful mane on it?

So I listened to their whole video series with the various combinations on drums, vocal, etc. The whole line seems really high quality. Not sure if that's people's experience with build quality or other issues mics run into over time. But certainly on my radar to try if I get a chance. I'm not sure if a local shop sells them for me to test.
Also, I really don't hear much of difference with the 013 vs the tube 011. Both really nice, but I'm not sure of what I'm getting extra sonically on this tube model comparatively.

I seem to recall a little more dimension and sparkle but maybe I'm crazy. Also, check this video prof Dan did 011 vs km84 with his disgustingly good guitar playing.

How is the self noise with the SU13? I recall a shootout where it was higher than other mics tested.

Very very nice, of course... but there is a bit more mid warmth in the KM84.

One man’s “mids” is another man’s “brighter.” I hear the 84 as slightly brighter - but not in a bad way.

I hear the Soyuz as a tad wider, with the km84s as a little more direct and a touch brighter or more forward in the upper mids. Maybe a little more full in the low mid as well. It has that "something" going on that only Neumann's have up there. That slight vibe. The Soyuz are just as good IMO, and a little sweeter.
Many mics will fall in a comparison to the km84 of course, just not sounding "in the same league" but the Soyuz hangs just fine. It's just a little different.
Need to pick up the 013's.

That's a very fair description achase4u. I hear more detail with the Soyuz, maybe because there's so much more gain and it's still quiet, maybe the EQ curve's a little different from the 84. The 84 has one special quality that I find hard to beat, with very "strummy" songs, it kind of keeps the guitars in place and doesn't need much compression to sit in the track, even if it's a pretty dynamic acoustic track. The Soyuz seems to excel at tracks that feature the guitar. I didn't have that much time with the Soyuz to really see how it sits in tracks over time. Hopefully I'll get one soon.
I'm busy trying to update my system with a new Apollo, new monitors, etc. so my spendable cash is spoken for in the next couple of months. Still, the 0-13 stays on my mind because I know it's really a fine and pro mic, not one I'll grow to dislike and trade off in a few months. It's a keeper, if you know what I mean.

Extend your lips and open your throat and make the caaaa sound a crow makes. That 800-1100 awww sound, that frequency range, where the KM84 lets the tone sit so that what it records just sits there in a mix like a champ.

The KM84 is impossibly articulate. Even the soyuz 011 sounds a little veiled in the direct A/B comparison.
I'm at a happy resting place right now with my Oktava 012. I'm going to do "the mods" sometime next week I think.
I have bought and sold so many SDC pairs it's almost absurd. It's KSM137 for drums, and Oktava 012 for guitar, that's my story for now, and I'm sticking to it.
I think the KM84 would work for me. KM184 is my "one that got away." Not that it's hard to find a KM184. I'll probably save up for a pair.

I've never gotten to use a KM84. I know that I like the KM184 so much that the KM84 is bound to work for me as well, since they use the same capsule design. I always love the KM84 when it comes up in videos and shootouts. The KM184 I know personally is my benchmark from things I've had the fortune to own for some time. I sometimes get super focused on transient response and top end. In that sense, you start to hear the differences between these mics, between mic preamps, and so on. There's a lot of ways to sound wrong and only a few that sound "right." I think when it comes to SDC I am stuck on Neumann as my benchmark. Everything else compares to that. In my case, the KSM137 specifically works for me on drum overheads, and the Oktava specifically works all right for me on acoustic guitars. Not quite as much if you switch the sources and mics around. So I'm at a happy place, until I can afford to buy some Neumanns.
