I was going to call this thread something else but lets just settle with the demonstration of the Soyuz SU-013. I also own this mic but I was quite impressed and can concur with everything that was sad about this mic in this clip.
It was a great example of what this mic is like.
Cheers

Ever since Martin was demoing these, I am super impressed with their tone and transient response.

I've been using the matched pair of SU-013s that I got last week for recording acoustic guitar over the past couple of days and I am really pleased. I am also fortunate enough to have a matched pair of SU-011s and the SU-013s are very comparable for quite a bit less money. I don't think you could go wrong with either one. In a mix, I think it would be very hard to tell the difference.

I *still* haven't had a chance to plug mine in. Living on the pediatric bone marrow transplant ward will do that to you. But once I have a chance to get some sounds, I'll post something here. I'll say this, though: they *look* gorgeous...

I sold my KM84 for one of these. I wish I'd known. When somebody sends me one for a month or so demo I'd love to try it, espress an evaluation, and buy IF it does what I want. It sounds very tempting from the chatter,. but chatter does not convince me. It sure does LOOK purdy! I would NEVER sell my KM84!

Makes me wonder if something was funky under the hood too. I’m waiting for the reissue (no I don’t have any inside info)

Also preferred it to a Telefunken M280.

Just bear in mind its a nice sdc but its not trying to be a km84 clone, it has its own thing going on. I like it more then km184. Not quite as bright on the top but still a little brighter then a km84 but not in a bad way.

Nice video....they really sound great. I’ve been using a pair of blue hummingbirds on toms lately. I really dig sdc’s on toms.

Here's a short clip of a recent recording I did with my stereo Soyuz SU-013 Pair on nylon fingerpicked guitar - completely raw and unprocessed. The left channel is the mic on the body and right channel is on pointing toward the neck near the body. Both mics approximately 12-18 inches away. The loud plucks from this guitar player normally hurt like bad sibilance - but the Soyuz handled it very nicely. Mic Preamps were a pair of Great River MP-500v's. Although this wav file is raw, in the mix it took EQ and compression beautifully. Soyuz SU-013 Stereo Pair on Nylon Guitar

you still digging them John? Yeah - I use it on every acoustic part I do...I've now bought one twice, compared to the KM84 and sold the 84...of course, now I've got the 84 bug again. lol. I think I'll be able to survive it, though.
