It showed up today, seems to me like the best finish and feel of the Warm stuff I have had yet. Seems bullet proof and everything feels very solid and substantial. Racked it and listening on my cans, the pre alone has a nice electric presence and tone, not edgy and will compliment the wa412 api very nicely. With eq you can really move the sound around, initially subtly and then at extremes a lot: think it will be very useful. Top end is airy with out being edgy. I was honestly a little worried it might show up and seem like some corners had been cut, but its completely the opposite. I guess its the vintage british neve thing but I would even call it refined in finish and in sound. I am tracking my new song so will post some vocals, acoustic guitar and bass over the next little while. Bottom line: definitely a keeper for me !

I’ll post some stuff tomorrow but I do find it has a special sonic quality.
The di’d bass does not go through the input transformers so level was lower than my wa412. Certainly, high enough but I was curious.

Thx. I have never had a real neve or other neve clone so can’t really compare.
But I have had a variety of good pres and I think cus of the transformers the wa73 has for me a unique pure presence that I could call sweet but not distorted.
The tone button (impedance) is a very useful feature.
The di’d bass was a good test as that’s a cheap p bass clone and even though the warm instrument input doesn’t go to the input trannies all the tone is the pre, old strings but I used a medium guitar pick.
I will recut the vocals I did ruff yesterday and will post a verse too so you can hear that. I’d like to have my wa87 and 47 up together, each into one side of the wa273eq and track. I tend to sing a little off axis anyway so if I keep settings same obviously the two mikes should sound different but you’ll still hear the pre!

I re recorded the acoustic part as logic gremlins seemed to re arranging the tracks: wtf ? any way here is a rough simple mix of the bridge with the bass and acoustic guitars and logic drums , no plugs on 2 buss soundcloud.com/kcatthedog/towards-bridge-2

Just playing around with my voice the 73EQ is definitely in the Neve camp, the Dan Alexander gives you a 10 on the big sound scale the pre in the 73EQ is about an 8 ! Not bad it’s also a bit brighter. Now having 8Ch of super big sound Neve pre that lean dark the 73EQ is a nice different take! The EQ is where this really says 1073, it dose what you would expect a 1073 to do. So Far I prefer bringing a line input in by padding the mic input to give it some of that iron tone, even better pad the Dan Alexander and come in via the line and it sounds like Sound City! Bottom line the Dan Alexander rack is going no where, but I do see more 73EQ in the future , is 16 ch of Neve pre to much ? Honestly i would love a console of 24+ of these.
It’s going off to Vincent to see how it handles a real voice!
But I want a real PSU!!!

I'll take that compliment: thx ! I honestly dialed in that sound with literally a few twists of the dials on the eq and hit record. As you would hope than, in the mix, you don't have much else to do other than listen for levels.

Someone asked if I could pass a signal to demo the high freq (shelf) section of the wa273eq. I made an mp3 of part of session mix with nothing on the 2 buss. Used the logic sine wav and utility plug to gain match the S/R from daw to wa273eq and back and then bounced the file multiple times as below. With the eq on but flat the high end was now lower than the actual mix, so I then, just using my ears, tried to match the eq settings to the high freq content in the base mix. With that as my base then I increased the eq FRQ point and then increased the volume by 2 physical increments per pass. Approximating what you might do with the eq on the 2 buss. I stoped with 3 more volume increments available but to me this mix was starting to sound too hyped in the high end, but if you had a dull signal you could go further. So, although this is all mp3, my take away is that this unit has a sweet and smooth hi fi character. In the bed mix I used it on everything except the lead guitar and this gives you a sense of sculpting the high end on the 2 buss. Not exactly scientific but I just tried to control gain and to be consistent with the differences, so to some extent, you can hear the effect of just the eq changes on the same mix. I couldn't get the insert signal working so went line in each time. 1 is a clip line in EQ off, 2 is same clip line in, EQ on flat (fully left) 3 same clip freq at 12 khz, vol. at 8th mark (this seemed to match the previous clip?, but I didn't adjust the bass and mid) 4 same clip, Eq at 16khz (highest setting (vol at 10th mark. 5 same clip EQ at 16khz, vol at 12 6 same, vol at 14 7 same vol at 16. There are 3 more volume increments but to me the top end is getting too emphasized. soundcloud.com/kcatthedog/sets/wa273eq-high-freq-example

What do you reckon the big circle in the middle of the middle pcb was for?

Don’t know, it’s racked now but as this is the 732eq perhaps there is a component below on the sub pcb?

It looks like the inductor. Maybe they moved some of them off board in this build.

I'd agree as in the single unit models, that's where an inductor is. Whereas in kcat's picture, there are two inductors in the top right (presumably due to height) that aren't present in the 1U.

Either that, or they went against the onboard tealight.
