That's good to know John. Recording bass has been a weak point in my productions at home, and maybe this will help.

These are my favorite preamps for DI bass recording.
I also use them as DI on clean funky guitars like Nile Rodgers used to do
50% amp blend 50% DI 1073 with a strat
You get that Get Lucky Daft Punk sound, Fender Custom Shop pickups of course!

I would struggle to fit 4 output transformers in this unit, I would have to modify the layouts, chassis size, etc... I am considering offering one of each, it would be something like this Carnhill version 890.00 Carnhill and Sowter 950.00 Sowter version 990.00 What's your stock like on these? What's a realistic ship date if purchased now? It's in stock, ships next working day but not for long, about to sell out for another 4 months Thanks

For those of you who've been invoiced or received their gear- when did you place your pre-order? Mine was over a year ago, so I'm hoping to be included in this current run.
Don't mind waiting a little longer, but it would be nice to start cooking with this baby.

I saw josh post on the purple site, that they had some in stock, available to sell and they were running out.... email them cheers Wiz

So you ordered a year ago, they're "in stock" right now, and you haven't been contacted about your year old order?

Thanks, guys. I got the out of office,a week ago.
Since the gent who made the video said he'd been waiting two years, I figured there might be a list that is slowly being sorted through.
That said, if they have stock lying around...my name should be on two of'em !!

I've got to be honest, yes. But let me walk that back a little. I don't have them side by side. I've FINALLY got the mic to where I want it (thank you Upton and Shannon), so a lot could have to do with the mic. But it seems like everything I've recorded with this thing sounds fantastic. I could be unfairly judging the Heritage because I was actually hearing what the mic was doing at the time, not the pre...but part of me does think this thing is smoother. Not as bright up top. And I've heard some people say that the Carnhills impart somewhat of a sheen...I have the Sowters and this thing sounds like the vintage stuff I've used. Seriously.

I always loved the sta because it imparted a big bottom...now I'm not so sure I need that anymore. Of course, this was over compressed, but I think I like the raw sound better.

It certainly sounds pro either way, perhaps the stam 73 is giving you a fair bit of the tone you used to try to get the sta to pul for you so now you just need less sta ?

I actually think it's the mic...the Stam just sounds really, really natural. The VP28s are a little more forward and crisp on top, but still has the beautiful bottom.

You'd know best but the transformer in the 73 has got to be imparting something to the sound ? I just thought vintage but in a very good way ?
