Well then there was no excuse as to why I should have cosmetic inconsistencies, especially if the knobs are installed in Chile or China anyway I'm over all of this and don't want to derail further from the thread You seem angry the last couple of days.

stam Well I didn't want to talk about this anymore ππππ That doesn't prove they are hand made at all. It's relevant because a future customer of yours may want to know my experience doing business with you... 6 months of delays, xlr then change to trs and informed by a pic, after sticking up for you here and on GS, always speaking highly of you and your products giving you multiple chances. Then after all that get a cosmetically defective unit. Then I'm told deal with it, it doesn't affect me or my workflow, when every person who has seen the unit asks why the knobs are like that...ππ©π΄ I'm glad that most manufacturers or builders don't employ your philosophy, it doesn't matter how it looks as long as "it works" π³ How do I know ordering a sa87 I won't receive cosmetic damages and be told to deal with it? Oh it was dropped and stepped on by an elephant but it passes audio and stays in the shock mount so what's the problem ππ It doesn't mess up your work flow π§... How do I know if I order a sa1073 and have a real issue I won't be told to deal with it or foot the bill for shipping and repair expenses to get a properly working unit when it should have arrived in perfect working order... Feel free to pm me if you want but I don't have anything else to say. I wish you the best with Stam Audio and hope your company continues to be successful! Have a great day

Have a great day I am happy to replace your unit and cover shipping if it bothers you so much. Your unit is not defective though, again , each of the middle pots was cut by hand, not a machine, maybe yours was a bit longer in a pot , this is the first time I am hearing these and I have cut 1.800 of them !! Anyways, if it troubles you I can send you another unit but your unit is not defective in any way.

Hey Chase this is a serious offer and not meant to hang s..t on you or your concerns ; Stam send Chase a new one and I'll buy the old one sent direct from Chase at $100 U.S. discount on price of new plus I'll pay freight.
(I'm sure I'm missing some sensitivity here but hope no offense is taken and it helps)
Cheers, Ross (Alice Springs, Australia)

(I'm sure I'm missing some sensitivity here but hope no offense is taken and it helps) Cheers, Ross (Alice Springs, Australia) That would have to be worked out with Stam. If you paid me then I would I guess rebuy a unit from him? Not sure how long that would take, and I pre ordered, therefore paid less than a in stock unit. Stam said he will pay my shipping on the new unit to exchange, if so then he would have to accept your offer for my current unit .. I don't expect a free unit and I understand you didn't say or imply that. I paid $590 or $595 total, will pull invoice if all parties decide to go forward . Feel free to buy pm me to discuss further, Edit: just saw the new posts... Thank you stam how do you want to do this ?

We'll do the nuts and bolts through e-mail Stam but for any one who's following i'm proposing that I pay Stam a reasonable used price , Chase gets a realistic quote from a freight co to my address which I pay him by Paypal and all's good. Working on the assumption that we are all honourable people. Cheers, Ross
Chase and Stam, my e-mail is reddirtrecordings@iinet.net.au (haven't worked out the PM on this site)

Ok, so, anyone used the Stam preamp and compared to the original or the competition, like Great River, Heritage, etc?

Ok, so, anyone used the Stam preamp and compared to the original or the competition, like Great River, Heritage, etc? The Carnhill version sounds the same as the BAE or Heritage (if they still use Carnhill and not OEP), same schematic, same components and same transformer will yield the same results, there is no secret here. No, switches and canford wire does not make a sonic difference, you can't hear it. The only difference is pricing, 790 for 2 channels vs I dont know how many thousands. Most important thing here are the transformers, then the capacitors (you must use Polystyrene and Tantalum) and some good Vishay caps on the audio path, all of this are included on the Stam 1073. Now, our Sowter output version I do believe takes it to the next level, the difference is subtle but you can hear it, on bass, vocals, etc.., while the Carnhill sounds great and the price is low I believe the LO1166 by Sowter comes closer to the original Marinair LO1166, you can hear an extended low frequency response and it just sounds closer to my vintage 1073. I think most people would be happy with either!

INeve is all about the Iron Years Ago we Pulled the Vintage Transformers out of One CH of my Dan Alexander, then put them in A Modern Neve , Chandler LTD, Great River and even the Chameleon Clone! Everybody's Jaw Dropped at what a difference the old Iron made, well the guys who were their are still driving up the prices of old Neve Transformers, They all Have DYI Clones with Old Transformers, that Rock and give new meaning to HUGE! If you get close with The Sowter / Carnhill combo I'll probably Jump in when you start doing 1081's ( If you don't nail it I can always switch the Transformers sell the Dan Alexanders and have some very special Stams)π

I think this will be helpful:
Carnhill vs Sowter 1073 review from Sweden!
Note: Price is 790 and 890 for each, Paypal fees included
One channel 1073 will go for 459.00 and 490.00 on pre-orders at least
Thanks!!
