They also made the Expressor, Dominator, Compellor, Exciter and Expander/Gate for the DBX 900/Aphex 9000 series which are seriously cheap. For people concerned about rack space you could 9 channels of dynamics for very little money in 3RU

The demand for Atmos mixes from labels to deliver to Amazon/Apple has me strongly considering a set up at my house…which would probably be (3) KH310, (8) KH120’s and a KH810 subwoofer and a MTRX Studio…which I could probably afford if I sold my Lynx Aurora (n) 32, PMC IB2S, and Spectra power amplifier

The tube is a subminiature tube and according the Neumann representative last night it’s “a tube used in another one of our current microphones”…which could only be what’s in the M149/M150 I believe

I saw that listing and was definitely tempted! Glad you got it working. Bought some plugins with all the brainworx vouchers and coupons…Sculpt, 9000J, Bass Mint, and Tails It was cheaper and more feature rich than the ssl-style 500 unit I’d been looking at, and I figured that worst case I could stick it on a shelf in the corner thanks to the plugin control. One LED is still a little squirrely, but for the price, who cares?! Have you gotten to use Sculpt yet? I keep meaning to demo it. I haven’t used it yet, but it has some features that really appealed to me “on paper” so we’ll see!

I took a chance on a damaged WesAudio ngBusComp and nursed it back to health. It sounds positively incredible. The dialable THD, Wet/Dry, Sidechain settings, and optional driveable Carnhills give this a TON of flavors in addition to the dual-mono, stereo, and m/s modes. Being able to control all of it with a plugin feels futuristic, and it was so simple to set up. I'm extremely impressed by the overall presentation. Only con: 3RU of space. Recommended! I got to see and hear it at a private event today with about a dozen other engineers. It’s a nice looking and sounding microphone, like the U67 I see where the cost cutting measures are (binder connector, cable, power supply, finish) but I think it’s going to sell incredibly well and if you are seriously interested I’d get an order in because I think once the “official” announcement is made I would expect a rather long wait time.
Right now I’m trying to decide if I want to jump into ATMOS…which would cost even more than a M49V unfortunately…so I’m probably not a buyer right now

Yeah, surprisingly good turn out this year! They split it between Studio A and B but didn't clearly mark off that it was in multiple rooms and I had a few people text me after they left saying "I didn't see you there!" only to realize more booths were in the other studio. Seems they should have had a sign or something. Buster's good people. He bought my 3M in December. I know Neal Cappellino had a booth. Anyone else cool there? Chuck Ainlay, Vance Powell, Ray Kennedy, Jamie Lidell, Russ Long...probably lots of other people I didn't see. I mean, I was there and I think I'm pretty cool.

I’d say there’s a 99% chance that the toms were concert toms (or had the bottom heads removed) and likely the front head was removed from the bass drum (or had a hole so big it might have well been taken off)

Yes. BUT! Where were the odds I'd see this for sale yesterday at an AES swap meet yesterday? That is quite sexy! Was that Buster's event at the Quonset Hut? I want a Royer SF12 after tracking my D28 with one today. Great drum OH/Room mic too. I've been tempted by the SF12 in the past. The R88 I have isn't always the most practical microphone when it comes to placement!

Just when I thought I was done the person with the 525 told me he also had a Teletronix LA-3A. Price was very fair by todays standards so I took it. That’s one of my desert island compressor…prefer them to LA-2A’s in most cases (at least the LA-2A’s I’ve owned in tried)

I've recorded a lot of Pre War Guitar company guitars...Andrew and Josh in Watchhouse/Mandolin Orange have several, Molly Tuttle exclusively plays her's live and in the studio (it's also my favorite Pre War I've recorded), Rachel Baiman, Eli West, David Greer...they are wonderful instruments that look and sound the part. But I've never recorded Bryan playing anything other than that D-28 he has (that I can remember) My absolute favorite guitar is Tim O'Brien's 1937 00-18. That's the one when it's in the studio I can't help but play. Luckily he lets me! Regardless, if I were buying a new guitar I'd look long and hard at a Pre War. Not me. They don't make a J-200.
Slope shoulder, yeah. WHY THE HELL DOIN"T THEY MAKE THE KING OF ALL THE '30s GUITARS?
For every person that wants a J-200, there are 1000 who want a J-45/J-50 (singer songwriters) or a D-18/D-28 (flat pickers)

I got on Instagram during the pandemic as a means of motivation to fix some synths and my Auditronics consoles. Documenting progress and getting positive feedback along the way has value for sure!

I love the Avalon 2055 on mix buss as well. The Maag can also be useful for me, I really want to pick up the High Voltage Audio inspired version, seems like a great deal.
I really liked my AML's when I had them, and like them over the Pultec's in this example as well.
You could use a plugin like Q-Clone to "see" the difference in the curves and matched the more closely.

Picked up an AKG D12E at a (these days) fair price and a vintage big meter API 525 to fill the last slot in my 500 series rack. I think I'm done for awhile!

But, I think a U47FET is right on that line of not unattainable, holds it value, and there's one at most every tracking studio in Nashville and they are kind of expected Is it really that essential to get that mic for recording bass drum exclusively? Or are other uses for the U47FET that people don't talk about? Nothing's really essential, but I'd say its an oft requested microphone. I use them on upright bass, bass amps, and occasionally vocals (especially ones with excess sibilance)
