AKG C422 incoming. Probably broken I have a C422 and a C426. They are complicated. If it's broken make sure you find someone who really works on AKG's. I highly recommend Michael Amon but he is in Austria.

I have a MAS, SFE, and SVC. I personally get the most use out of the SVC. I'll use it on a mix buss, drum buss, overheads, piano...it can really shape the sound. Sometimes when I'm working on a mix and it just sounds boring I'll strap that on the mix buss and it can bring things to life.
The MAS is subtle but can do a similar thing on a mix but it's more of a "glue". It can't mangle the sound like a lot of harmonic units but I don't think that's its purpose. It works well on acoustic instruments when someone says something like "can you make it sound a little more lo-fi or dirty" and it can do that without being over the top. Also the hi-z inputs are great and it’s a nice way to add some warmth to modern synths and keyboards
The SFE, for whatever reason, gets used the least for me. I just need to spend more time trying it on stuff.

Mount-It! mobile cart and a long HDMI cable...these seems like a much more affordable alternative to the Sound Anchor. We have a TV mounted to the wall at the studio and it's killing my eyes...it'll be nice to have something I can bring closer or an assistant can use. Also, a Whirlwind Gold Box for cheap. Seemed like the best MXR Distortion+ option out there.

Picked up an Avid S1…I had one for awhile, got annoyed with my home set up and sold it, but I think I got the house to where I can confidently mix out of there confidently and automation with a mouse is a drag

M50’s here. We bought 6 pairs of DT770’s a few years back, 4 failed within 6 months, so we returned them all. Someone gifted me a pair of DT880’s and they lasted about a year of marginal home use before they shit the bed. So…not confident in Beyerdynamic for headphones these days…
We’ve also got a pair of HD280’s, which some people like but they can be a bit tight on the head for musicians, as well as a pair of Sony V6’s. I can’t remember the brand but we have a pair of open backs which can be nice for string players and singers.

Pair of Neumann KH80's that I am loving at home. My alignment microphone arrives tomorrow but even without the DSP I'm really enjoying these. I don't feel like I'm missing out on much bass but I might someday add a subwoofer. Also snagged a great deal on some Mogami DB25 cables along with a nice two tier keyboard stand that I think will be perfect for my Opus 3 and Moog Rogue. And some pedals...Catalinbread Karma Sutra, Earthquaker Devices Westwood, and JHS Cheese Ball.
I also got an AKG 451E incoming that has some issues the seller said but I have a good idea of what they are, and a cheap JZ V11 mostly out of curiosity

That recording workshop was 10 weeks. And I think they did it one other time after we went through it. Great memories. Sadly, Dave Davis passed away. Curley still records at the Lodge in Dayton KY, but he's been pretty busy with the Whigs touring. I knew little to nothing about gear at that point, so I was extremely overwhelmed with what was what. I still have everyone's mixes from back then. I actually thought your's was the best one. Wow! What a small world. Am I remembering correctly that the band we recorded was The Heartless Bastards?

AMS DMX 15-80. Good shape and hopefully won't need to send to Kulka but we'll see. Took a realistic offer which was cool. Now I just need a studio again, lol. What a bummer. This thing was unfortunately sent USPS in a single box that literally was an inch wider than the AMS was deep. With a layer of bubble wrap under it and on layer above it. Nothing on the sides. USPS literally beat it to shit. Severely bent rack ears and it won't pass audio on the A channel output. Checked the cards and all seems fine. Turns out it had been to Kulka in '08 so probably would have sounded pretty nice. Such a dumb move by the seller. It's going back. Ouch. How could you be so irresponsible with something so valuable and fragile???

Microtec-Gefell UM T 70 and M 930 say hello and please check us out. UM70 / UMT70 are also excellent options. When I think workhorse, I think multi-pattern, and those work on pretty much everything

I'm sure some will disagree, but for around $2000 used a U87 is pretty hard to beat. I also use my AKG 414-ULS all the time (I have four) and I also think the Blue Kiwi is a great value second hand. Other Neumann options are U89's and TLM170's when I think of workhorse, but I'd probably take a pair of 414's over those if you don't have a huge mic closet.

A company in Canada called CCTV sells custom PCBs so you can install modern faders. Really the main issues with these and a lot of graphic EQs from this era (Urei in particular) is the plastic faders we’re greased and that hardens or gets junked up and they’ll either become so stiff you can’t move them or with be noisy or have drop outs. This solves that problem. And all the electrolytics were replaced and those should last another 20 years I’ll snap a shot of the springs.

Honestly spatial repair in RX does this so easy and effective and it only takes 5 seconds after you've done it 1000 times like I have...highlight the squeak in the audio clip...go to Audiosuite and choose "RX connect"...hit "Repair" to send the clip to big boy RX...choose "spatial repair" in the side menu...visually you should be able to identify the "squeak" or problematic audio so highlight that...hit render in Spatial Repair (or have "instant process" clicked with Spatial Repair open)...hit "send back" to send it back to Pro Tools...hit "Render" in Pro Tools...done

A drummer friend sold me a Giant Beat 24" Multi at a great price...it was a spare he's had sitting around for over a decade. Nice to finally have a "ride" to go with my 15" hi-hat's and 20" Such a great ride. I play 15, 18, 20 and 24 myself. But I will replace the 18 with a 22. I used to play the 2002 series (15, 22, 24crash and 24ride) and they sound great but are a little on the bright side in the studio. Giant Beat became instantly my favorite cymbals when i first got my hands on them. The wash is amazing. The big beat is an interesting series to. Sounds to me it sits somewhere between the 2002 and Giant Beat, like a darker 2002 maybe. I have some Big Beats as well, 15", 21" and 24". Your description fits them well. Darker, quieter 2002's. That was I like about the Giant Beat hats...they are pretty quiet and don't bleed into snare mics too much, and they aren't so dark they sound like trash can lids (in fact they aren't dark at all).

I traded it for a snare drum. But I was always interested in trying it with a 18" Thin to hear what it sound like as giant hi-hats!

On a budget the BSS DPR-402 is a solid choice. I like using it in HF Re-Emphasis mode because it tends to compress the snare (usually the thing poking out in overheads) without causing the cymbals to “pump”. Plus it can do a bunch of other clever things…it has a peak limiter section and can be used as a de-esser with a side chain monitor so if your problem isn’t the snare but instead harsh cymbals, you can clamp that down.
Also, they are finicky, but I really like the Culture Vulture on overheads. But it’s difficult to get the balance of the left and right the same. I’m sure there are some other “Saturators” people can recommend

Picked up a few things at an estate sale...Tapco 4400 spring reverb, a bunch of Mogami and Fishman Asterope cables and snakes, a big box of percussion, keyboard stand, nice Atlas style mic stand, and a couple SKB rack cases... Separately bought a Catalinbread Karma Sutra pedal, one of many pedals that'll just sit on the shelf and maybe someone will use it once every 5 years 😛 Ooof. So jealous of that Tapco reverb. Functioning? Working but I’m going to replace all the faders with Bourns using custom PCB boards sold by CCTV. I happened to have a set already…done it before and it makes such a huge difference in the noise and functionality because like old Urei graphics these plastic faders are shot. I’m probably not going to keep it…this is probably the third or fourth one I’ve owned. They do sound great but I really don’t need another outboard spring reverb at the moment.
