Has anyone here used all the latest (full-width rack, grey face) Overstayer gear?
The Stereo Modular Channel basically seems like an enchanted sonic playground, among the most appealing gear to come out in ages. But their lead times were a bit long, then got set way back during the pandemic. Hope they're doing okay and ramping back up on orders.
How about the MAS, SFE, and SVC? Or Imperial Channel? There's a lot of chat online about the MAS bringing goodness to the mix bus, but haven't heard much of the other units.
Besides the MC, are there any standouts? Favorite applications? SFE vs SVC for drums?
There's a selection of used ones pretty often on Reverb for non-inflated prices too.

Ive never used or heard any of the new stuff. Very intriguing though.
I do have the stereo vca compressor. I like it but I’ve never had an SSL or a Smart or even a better dbx to compare it to.
Cheers, Geoff

I have a modular channel. It’s great, sometimes I use it just for subtle saturation or filters but it’s great when pushed, abusing a drum bus, synths pianos. I line tracking through it, the preamps are good too

I’ve been wanting one of their 1st gen, half rack, instrument drivers for synths but nobody who has one seems to want to see theirs…which kind of confirms in my mind that they’re awesome and make me want one (or two) even more.

The SFE is phenomenal. IMHO it's like a mastering grade stereo 1176 w/ wet/dry blend, harmonics, wider sweetspot, stereo matched etc. (I believe Brian Lucey uses one in his mastering chain). Amazing on drum bus, and excells in any application you would use an 1176 style comp.
The MOD Channel is amazing if you like to shape sounds like you would dial in a synth; a tweakers dream, but complicated; not a set and forget type of box.
I liked the MAS but found it to be very subtle. Of all of their pieces I think the SFE is the most universal and useful, and the MOD Channel is the most unique.

I have a MAS, SFE, and SVC. I personally get the most use out of the SVC. I'll use it on a mix buss, drum buss, overheads, piano...it can really shape the sound. Sometimes when I'm working on a mix and it just sounds boring I'll strap that on the mix buss and it can bring things to life.
The MAS is subtle but can do a similar thing on a mix but it's more of a "glue". It can't mangle the sound like a lot of harmonic units but I don't think that's its purpose. It works well on acoustic instruments when someone says something like "can you make it sound a little more lo-fi or dirty" and it can do that without being over the top. Also the hi-z inputs are great and it’s a nice way to add some warmth to modern synths and keyboards
The SFE, for whatever reason, gets used the least for me. I just need to spend more time trying it on stuff.
