I’m talking acoustic. It’s me playing, so better technique probably isn’t happening. I know RX has a thing for this…not sure I want to pay the high price though. Anything else out there that handles this?

Nevermind. RX Standard is $99 for me right now. Probably pick it up.

Soothe does this well if you happen to own it already

If you oil the neck/strings really well before performing it helps. Also I've found that Nickel Bronze strings, instead of the more common Phosphor Bronze, help tame that high end a little. But the Nickel Bronze are definitely a different sound that you may/may not like.

The best thing I have found is baby powder (if you are talking before recording). It dulls the sound a little bit but helps considerably.
After that, clip gain on the offending squeak (like with esses) has been the laborious but most natural sounding.
It is a constant irritant, for sure.

100% worth it for this purpose. RX Guitar De-Noise is a time-saving miracle for squeaks and harsh picking noises.

Another option is using flatwound guitar strings. I have them on several guitars and they eliminate squeaks for me. Harder to find for acoustic, but they exist.
I use Dogal V25 Nightclub 11-42 strings on my rubber bridge guitar. They also have 12-46s and 14-48s. They may be too mellow for your purposes - definitely darkens the sound.

Baby powder is going to get embedded into the pores of the fingerboard wood and you'll likely never get it out. There is a spray product called Finger Ease that greatly reduces string squeaks. FingerEase-09

I’m talking acoustic. ~~~ Anything else out there that handles this? Run a de esser. Often works better towards the front, or even first in chain but experiment w/ placement. Pre-post compressor etc. The string debate... 80/20 vs phosphor bronze is certainly a rabbit hole worth exploring. Ever try coated strings?

Rub your fingers along the outside of your nose before you play.
…seriously.

Rub your fingers along the outside of your nose before you play. …seriously. Mitch Easter calls it "nose grease." I believe he uses it on his tape machine, too!

If its me playing and the squeaks are really bothering me what I do is play the part at each position and edit it together … its a bit of work but the squeaks are gone!
Would depend on the actual part of course and that you are playing to a click

RX tip - mouth de-click often removes squeaks that RX guitar squeak leaves behind.

Honestly spatial repair in RX does this so easy and effective and it only takes 5 seconds after you've done it 1000 times like I have...highlight the squeak in the audio clip...go to Audiosuite and choose "RX connect"...hit "Repair" to send the clip to big boy RX...choose "spatial repair" in the side menu...visually you should be able to identify the "squeak" or problematic audio so highlight that...hit render in Spatial Repair (or have "instant process" clicked with Spatial Repair open)...hit "send back" to send it back to Pro Tools...hit "Render" in Pro Tools...done
