Did you have both Warm & KT units at the same time or one then the other? What types of music do you create / record / produce or mix/ master that you used the Warm & KT on? I ask b/c I did not have good results w/ a very popular HW bus comp clone for the genres I work in but others were satisfied to amazed at their results w/ the same bus comp. I thought the warm was a dirty, noisy piece of shit. The KT I would never even touch having owned and disowned other Behringer gear. Maybe if you can get it for 100 bucks but I would never be able to rely on it. They took other cheap hardware and made it defective by design in the PCB layout. 8200, X32, etc. The Warm is cheap. How do you halve the price without making it even worse? Behringer does crazy stuff. I've had stuff happen with their gear that has never happened with anything else besides melting KRK Class AB plate amps Hey, Are you trolling me ? How can you say gear is “ noisy shit “ when you can’t answer whether you have used the HW. Have you owned & used either KT 76 or Warm 76? What duties did you use either or both for? Can you please post examples of your dirty noisy piece of shit WA76? Can you please post examples of your mixes & masters? There is an audio example in my sig called “ Lay Down W Me “. It’s Wiz, a fellow RGO member’s song I mixes & mastered he recorded. I used the WA76 on Wiz lead vocal. I use the WA76 for tracking & Mixing & I never experienced a dirty noisy POS. No noise issues & my genre’s are loud! Meaning dirty noisy compressor on lead vox would quite audible when the master is -8 to -5 Rms. I’m an Apple certified Apple Digital Masters ME, PT operator certified, Ableton certified etc & quite confident in my skills to be able to hear a noisy piece of shit. I don’t claim to have golden ears or be better than you or anyone else, just confident in my ears & abilities. I am typing this with good intent & no rude or sarcastic manner. I do not aim to start drama, just get some understanding. I can’t speak I’ll not equipment I’m not experienced w/ & I hope everyone else does this here on RGO. Thank you.

There were some ppl who liked the KT & Warm 76 type units has that crowd moved on? ( wouldn’t surprise me if so ) I like my WA76. It really can add life and attitude to a vocal. Its is great for tracking. I like to ride the input when recording. Ofc It’s not a circuit copy nor a 1 to 1 of a UREI or UA. The WA76 does sound good & is easy to use, hard to screw up when using for mixing. Tracking you could get a little heavy handed if you aren’t used to the singer range/ voice. I recommend! If I had the extra $ a pair of the splices would be high on my list. Or a pair of Audioscape w NOS parts The KT76 is a clone of a clone. Behringer took a muntzed 1176, the warm 76, and muntzed it further with cheaper parts from their stock parts bins. Lets put it this way, the Warm can probably be modded into something good. The Behringer probably is defective by design. That’s what I’ve experienced with Behringer gear vs cheap Alesis, ART, and Focusrite gear. It goes beyond lo-fi sound, noise, and part durability to crazy design flaws. Did you have both Warm & KT units at the same time or one then the other? Just plugged in my new Weight Tank WT-COMP--what a beautiful machine in every way. Hard to believe that the musicality/quality can be had at this price. Congrats!!! Very happy for u, I am sure you will love it. Ooooo how I wish that was my new WT Comp haha. Too bad my $600 stimulus says “ Payment Status- Not Available “ 😦🥴 or I would be closer to getting one after 4 years of saying I’m going to buy one 🤦♂️ Will be that much sweeter when I finally do get one.

I may be speaking on a different LED light than you but the small led lights that come on a roll w/ a remote from Amazon are definitely noisy in my studio.
Less than a MBP fan but adds up so anything being recorded they get turned off unless it affects the vibe. May be the way i have things plugged in but I have noticed some slight interference even with all balanced cables w/ them on before.

So how is the mic a 251 if using a 67 style capsule & circuit tailored to the specific 67 capsule? I maybe missing something lol.
A mic is the sum of its parts. Some parts affect the sound more then others.
I thought for a mic to be considered a 251 it needs a CK12 capsule, a 6072 or Ac701, & a Haufe T14 transformer. Ntm the head basket & shape, head basket spacing & material etc all affects the sound.

Why are these mic companies using one circuit and tuned capsules for the whole range of mics? I think Advanced Audio does this too...
Will a 12AX7 circuit mic sound like a EF86/800 67 based mic even with a tuned cap. I assume capsule tuning is based on freq response & sound, is what tuning means ?
Is the capsule the main factor in tone? I would think a mic’s tone/ sound would be its sum of its parts.

Haha I don’t think I was close either! Surprised I don’t hear the mid forward ness from the Flea Thiersch skinned M7 in clip A as I hear it in B & C. I used my iPad Pro, Xs, & reg earbuds, usually can get a good idea from those 3 since I hear so many things daily from them. Will def go back & listen on the FP01’ s! Thanks for this

Been awhile since I have seen your mic locker:
A-> FET LDC vocal mic lol not hearing 87 capsule character tho. B-> Flea 47 - after more playbacks I think C maybe the Flea 47 n this is an 87 C -> 67 - Mids really pushed on here, maybe more compression
Vocal sounds great Jesse! Def hearing a good -10db + of GR on peaks but still sounds modern & balanced & would cut thru any type of mix.
That is a quiet vocal take for the HW compression & peak normalization. I guess u recorded conservative levels & the peak normalization made it loud.

I like the Maag Magnum K comp. Haven’t delved into the consoles yet. Black Box really makes some ITB verbs come to life. MC77 doesn’t sound like an 1176 to me. Townhouse is cool, little dirtier n slower than VSC2. A lot of the brainworx stuff I like. Dyn Eq2 for De ess, XLV2 for loud masters, limiter for limiting & adding harmonics, meter for RMS & K system.
Weird my perm PA license & plugs disappeared for my sub, only had a couple but still. Also still haven’t received my $199 voucher. My year sub was actually 372 days I’m at 366 now. I got the $199 sub that’s was on sale for $149, w a $199 voucher.

Maybe 5% at moderate settings but pushing for tone & using for color / creatively it’s anywhere from 10-25% especially when it comes to distortion, harmonics, & saturation. ( MB ITB thread w/ clipped Black Boxes & 9KJ’s )

As far as warm mics, I have no personal experience. Great comparison vid. Don’t want to judge a mic I haven’t used but I wonder how useful it is on drums, guitar, amps, room, etc.
That is where the real 67 & 87 shine. Work horse mics that sounds good to great on 80-90% of sources & can be molded to fit in a mix.
I remember everyone loved the WA76 ( & KT ) & compared it to REV D & how great it sounds in clip a later.. FF a few years the opinions have dramatically changed on these units ( & warm audio in general )

As 251 was an intended replacement for U47, where these mics originally designed for broadcast VO radio use or made for recording instruments & singing? So the diff tubes was a solution to serve two separate markets. I do believe there was a lot of skill, passion & great ears that went into these mics or we wouldn’t be going crazy about recreating them 60+ years later! I don’t know if that would be a solution today. I could see the 50 page thread now if for Ex: Heiserman put tube A in US 251 mic & tube B in export 251 mic

subspace thanks! PA just confirmed as well! Just purchased I got the mix master bundle for $149.99. I had 5 plugs in my cart, narrowed to 3 & they were around $120. A pop up said I could get a year for $149 + $199.99 PA plugin voucher to purchase w/e plugins I liked/ used the most out of the sub. Will mess around w the sub ( & AAX DSP ) on some older sessions & narrow down the key players. Don’t want to use a subscription on clients work & have a recall a year later & be dead in the water cuz I didn’t buy a perm license to a rando pluggo. Only downside i see atm.

Do you get AAX dsp installers included or is that separate cost? Their support page on the website inky says AAX, Audiosuite, VST, AU, RTAS, TDM.

Ok cool to know it’s based off the vintage. Clips sound great. Is there a 87i vs Serrano comparison anywhere? Didn’t find much in YT.
I love all things 87 whether I or AI & would happily use either anyone ir many things. Is $3500 to much for the real, imo, yes. Used can be had for decent pricing but still 22-3000 is too much.
Neumann prices the 87ai new for $1899 I don’t think anyone would have anything bad to say about the mic.

Is the original 251 that big? Was 251 E ( export ? ) the USA version & did it have a 6072 or AC701?
Is there a different letter like 251 D ( domestic, made in & used in Europe etc ) that signifies the capsule & tube?
Why are the two mics that are so different named the same? Did the engineers believe the two mics were identical in sound or did they know each mic ( 6072 vs ac701 ) had their own sound signatures?
Also is there not revisions of this mic stating which components the original was made with? It seems there is at least 3 - 4 versions dep on the diff components so I can see how they would vary.

Thinking about getting : sales only has 10-12 hours left lol 1.) Black box - $39.99 sale - ( Michael Brauer here i come 😘 ) 2.) Purple MC77 - $39.99 sale - ( use 1176 a lot for vox ) 3.) Acme Opticom XLA3 - $29.99 ( always wanted since I demoed ) 4.) SSL Console G $29.99 or is SSL 4000 E worth 49.99 (have waves) 5.) Townhouse Bus Comp -$29.99 ( is this redundant with Waves SSL, VSC-2, Kotelnikov? ) 6.) Any other suggestions ( Neold, SHMC, etc ) Don’t want to just buy a diff comp version of plugs I may have so may rid some of the redundant ones. Thank

Heard some customer clips on the purple site vs a “ c12 “ & was quite impressed w/ this mic. Is this based off the Ai, or 87i? Actually all the clips I have heard sound great 👍

Wow on first watch that vid is crazy. On second watch That video, if not edited, the officers seem to expect it. Maybe they are well trained but they didn’t even flinch and half the block just got destroyed. How did they know they weren’t too close to the explosion? Had that bomb been any bigger half those officers could have faced serious life threatening injuries. Happy that was not the outcome. That’s called bravery. They shoulda got a bonus! Read something ( could be true or not ) that they had some type of explosion expert / bombs team come in & setup a perimeter w/ guestimation of how big the explosion would be.

Is this thread being cleaned up or posts deleted? If so can a little context be added please cuz I’m a little confused. Everyone seems to be cordial & genuinely excited about this mic imo. Is Tim making a 251 mic in the same price category as Heiserman? ( know he makes a wonderful ck12 capsule idk about mics ) If Dolly is the goal sound why are you wanting more scooped sound? What does it mean to reject a mic? How do you reject 7 out of 8 251’s? Why is the sound varying so much w/ this mic? So many questions so many rejects ( the mics not you guys )
