I saw this puppy on Instagram and Facebook, since I follow Locomotive. The Locomotive 14B is the most well made piece of gear that I own, so I'm hoping to grab a pair of these too (buy my stuff in the classifieds!). Anyone else seen this? weighttank.com/Here's my 14B if anyone is interested... imgur.com/a/m8EwN

I know Eric has been working hard on making something awesome sounding and budget friendly for a little bit so I'm really excited to see him launch this. He's a really good human being and I wish him much success on this new brand. I look forward to if/when he does a tube preamp in this line.

Most of the examples in the YT vid sound very nice...The sibilance on the female vocals really pokes out in the YT vid... I hope that is her voice and not the sound of the compressor accentuating those harsher frequencies... I see you have to pay in full to Pre order... IDK if that's a great policy... I'm sure components are pricey, however IMO, half would be the most I would put down on a pre order... It's like the customers are fronting all the $$$ and taking all the financial risk if something were to go awry.. Not saying that's the case or will happen, just would make me real anxious until I received a working unit... look forward to hearing more samples Ps: I know some have paid tens of thousands in pre order to have prototypes built, as well as certain people paying in full for gear that didn't have a prototype built and understand it's a pretty normal practice in the boutique high end HW biz...

I was impressed with the sound samples. Especially on vocals and piano, bass and drums sounded pretty good too.
That "trash vocal" made me LOL uncontrollably, I couldn't take it seriously.
I wish someone could make a blind shootout with the Klanghelm MJUC, I wonder if they are anywhere close in head to head sound.

I really like the sound samples on this... and I'm sure I would get a ton of use out of the drive feature too. Have to decide if I should buy this or DIY a sta-level for the same-ish money. I wonder how the two would compare............assuming the weight tank is a little darker, and less glossy?

I dunno - I'm not much into gambling and I don't put much stock in Yooutoob demos and the like. I'd think that 50% down, returnable after a set time would be fair. !00%, nonreturnable? Go talk to a venture capitalist, which I am not.
The sibalance on the female vocal is a big red flag for me, as sibalance problems are a major issue for me on my (non-female) vocals. An opportunity to audition the prototype would go a long way towards allaying my misgivings. Without that, no.

I imagine Weight Tank would do something similar if you weren't satisfied. It's implied that the price is going up after the pre-order, and I'm more willing to take a chance if getting the best price. Since the price is lower for the pre-order, I figure I won't take much loss if I'm not happy with it and decide to sell down the line. I also appreciate little companies who do small runs and care about the craftsmanship of their products. I've purchased offerings from others as well in hopes of supporting small business. Locomotive, Mammoth Cave Audio, Louder Than Liftoff, Stam, CAPI, Spaceman.

This thing looks pretty killer, and the guts shots of the 14b show some serious craftsmanship and a beautiful layout.
Its cool to see a company that is going after their own "thing" while tipping a hat to past pieces of vintage gear that we all lust after.

There are some amazing items to be had by doing this, believing and trusting in a grassroots type of company that makes great products. I agree that it's a great way for companies to get a foothold in the marketplace. There is a down side for the customer though. For example, A lot of people who trusted in Mammoth Cave Audio are now having to pursue litigation and civil small claims to get their money back. Some have been waitin almost a year and a half, and most without communication in the past 6 months other than the owner admitting to squandering everyone $$$$ ( most customer's full preorder payments ). I have not done business with these mentioned companies and am no way affiliating Locomtive Audio business practices with those of Mammoth Cave Audio.

I've seen the issues that Tim/Mammoth Cave is dealing with. Really unfortunate situation. There is definitely a bit more risk with smaller startups, but that's to be expected.

Eric at Locomotive Audio is a stand-up guy. He's not going to be swindling anyone. He runs a totally legit business. I met him at AES a couple years ago when he first launched his brand and had a booth to show off his wares. We exchanged contact info and have been friends ever since. I'm pretty sure he's committed to his customers' happiness and would conduct his business accordingly. Send him a note or give him a call regarding his return policy. I agree with jcoutu1 - if you are willing to take the risk and support the little guy you can get some amazing deals. I am personally very grateful for all the early adopters and risk takers that have supported my little venture. Without those folks my company would not be where it is today. I recognize that jumping on these kinds of early adopter pre-order deals may feel too risky for some, and that's totally okay. In the case of Weight Tank, keep in mind that you are not just investing in a piece of gear, you are investing in Eric and this community. I dug this up... here's the Locomotive Audio Kickstarter video that I think gives you a glimpse into who this guy is: Brad

How does this compare to the ( cheaper ) dizengoff offerings? $1049 ( ends today ) or $1199 full upfront is a lot to ask and I haven't seen or heard anything other than YT vid which after watching a few times the piano and drums sound amazing. I can't help but think the 14B is the piece tonhave though...The 14B for $1600 pre order seems to me a way better deal than this weight tank or am I missing something? Can someone help a tune noob out? Major differences between units? Both share similar pedigreed designed circuits of yesteryear, are they more similar? Is the weight tank still Locomotove Audio? What will the weight tank retail for $1895? $1995? Rs124 is $2800.... would I be better with that? Trying to learn not compare products, thanks

It puts a nice gloss on the top, but doesn't make things fat. My Stam SA-2A is more of a fattener than the 14B. I'm expecting these to be a closer to the Stam with some added grit than it is the the 14B. I've finishing up tracking a rock EP soon and am hoping the Weight Tank will give the vocals the grit they need for the record. Really looking forward to getting them in. I think $1199 is going to be the regular price. They're due to start shipping in January, so I think this is the end of the "preorder".
