I'm afraid I might need one of these! Does anyone own the V-Comp and the Weight Tank? I have the WT and I love it.

Have people tried the v comp on bass : just curious: how multi purpose it may be ? The V really shines on vox and bass, IMO. It can be cool on drums if you're looking for a much more "retro" vibe, which is cool! To all who are asking how it compares to a Retro STA.... TBH, I think I prefer the V over the STA. Input and Output have way more useable range and I feel like the recovery times are a bit faster sounding, but I can still get the GOOEY MU thing happening with little to no effort. IDK if it's just me going crazy or what, but John, regarding your gain-staging "issues" and finding the right balance between saturation and compression, etc on the V, I found that changing the 6V6 tubes made a dramatic difference as to how the V saturated and responded to lowend (specifically). I dug the JJ's that my unit shipped with (I'd assume yours has JJ's as well) but I was fortunate enough to have a pair of 1956 RCA Grey Glass Black Plates laying around, so curiously, I popped them in. Let's just say, I haven't taken them out since (except to directly compare them to the JJ's). I noticed a pronounced difference in the amount and TYPE of grit I was getting, and how early I was getting it. Also, I felt like the RCA's opened up the top-end a bit more... as you can probably imagine, they were just overall bigger, better and more pleasing to the ear than the JJ's (which again, sound fantastic in their own right and are probably fine for MOST users). I'm a tube snob so, you know.... =D Hope it helps, guys! And to those who have V's on the way.... man oh man, you're in for a treat not surprised to hear this! The difference a REALLY good vintage bottle makes to gear is astounding. Thanks for the pro tip!!

I’d really love to have this and the Sta side by side. You might just be right.

Man...this thing is SO good. It really is. It's STUPID how good it is in real-world mix applications; tracking, etc... And for the price? Fkn silllllly no brainer. Same goes for the D-Comp, TBH... 2 entirely DIFFERENT compressors, but both amazing, just like all of the AS stuff..

I just ordered the Audio-Scape 76A that I've been waiting to be back in stock. I already have the buss compressor that stays in the insert of my Silver Bullet permanently, but I may need to get a V Comp when they are available. I've never owned a Sta. Any one know how these would compare to the Chandler RS124 since I already have a pair of those.

This is definitely on my radar. Trying to decide between one of these or the weight tank. I guess it may depend on what’s available when I’m ready to pull the trigger.

I thought the tone the 124 imparted was more in the low mids and the sta is more pillowy in the low lows.

Agreed with you 100% on this. It's like the best of an OG Gates & Retro (character, vibe, saturation, overall "feel") mixed with some common sense stuff that just makes it more useable on a wider variety of material. SUPER happy with my purchase of the V. Isn't leaving my side anytime soon, nor is any of my other AS gear! Congrats to mikec on the 76A... another fkn killer unit! In regards to the WT comp... this last weekend I was able to hear the Weight Tank MU comp on some of my own source material, which I had previously printed through the V-Comp with various settings... TBH, I found the WT to be really, REALLY cool.... but it just didn't have that.. authoritative compression action and THICK vibe my V-Comp has. It IS an interesting sounding compressor, but for instance, on vocals, IMO the WT couldn't quite hold up/compete with the V in terms of what it was ADDING to the vocal. That ineffable "euphonic" thing that is so hard to put into words. Same feelings when used on Bass. The V just does what it does so effortlessly and with a sense of musicality that you only really hear with REALLY great MU designs. The V-Comp has that very special "thing" going on. Hard to explain. The only thing I thought the WT may have a BIT of an edge on was Drums, for sure. When trying to do a more modern thing. Like using an LA2A on Kick or SNR to get a super fat transient SMACK. The WT does that well, while the V just makes drums BIG and SATURATED... which is awesome but not the best thing in the world for kick, snr, toms, etc... The V is a bit more $$, but it also has more than 4x the amount of NOS tubes in it than the WT... ;-) My 2 pence!

So I know the few of you that have this are having about it.
How much did you think it'll be different with the other tubes they will ship with now vs the preorder ones?

I’m not really sure you could tell a difference honestly...maaaaybe it’s a little smoother with the 6386 +1 to this... nominal at best, TBH man... PLUS, with the official release units, you will have the option to use the 6BA6 tube pair they ship with, or just source your own 6386 and pop it in there. In my personal experience with both tube types, again, superrrr subtle differences. Nothing I would worry about either way. If my V had a pair of the other tubes I'd be totally OK with that. Going back to the WT; YES! I forgot to add ACC / ELEC GTRs! Thing is GREAT on Electric GTR's! I really haven't tried the V on guitars of any kind yet TBH with you ::runs to studio to test V:: hahaha...

How long away will the 240 volt model be? How do i secure the special pricing but want the 240 volt model? Hey man! Hard to give an accurate estimate and I hate guessing. But it's something we are actively looking into. The best answer I have right now is, we should have a 240V option at the same time as we announce the OFFICIAL RELEASE of the "STANDARD EDITION" V-Comp. TBH, I don't know how many runs of the "6386 EDITION" we will realistically be able to do. Healthy NOS 6386 Tubes are ridiculously hard to find, especially at the prices we need to purchase them at. SO, I'd suggest waiting for the "STANDARD EDITION" V, and you will still get the Intro pricing on that, which is $1,199 ($1,299 Every-Day Price) REMEMBER: You will STILL be able to use a 6386 Tube in the "STANDARD EDITION"! ;-) Thanks for all the amazing support, as always guys! Word spreads QUICK!!! Hahaha.

I would highly, highly recommend the 6386 V Comp. honestly, either. Can’t believe these are this cheap.

Owners of V-COMP’s out in the wild (which equates to about a handful, lol) have had nothing but stunning, honestly quite humbling comments about their sound and performance! I am glad we were able to figure out how to do this type of compressor the RIGHT WAY, with no concessions made, and still keep the price down well below anything similar. This was no easy task, let me tell ya! 😂😂 Again, thank you thank you!!

God I want one of these too so bad.
Part of me wants them to sell out before I get there. Probably pretty likely anyways

With the faster release, I think this outshines the Retro. Probably not getting an invite to the Christmas party...They are different a bit though - my preference is the AS though. Line I mentioned the faster release and I don't think it's quiiiite as colored as the retro. And don't take that the wrong way - it's still plenty colored...but it seems to trim the flub a bit. That being said, I don't have them both here to compare. The thing is, who cares? This thing should stand on its own merits.
