Ok here's another comparison. The 67 version is everything done with the 67 and the TG version is everything done with the TG. So you can hear some TG on 6 and 12 string acoustic guitar. Both through the Great River pres and both vocals getting a few dBs knocked off by the WA76. For the TG guitars, it was System B, flat, with the 50Hz HPF on. For the TG vocal, it was System B, NAB/IEC 7.5 ips (which I think is what people are calling position "1") also with the 50Hz HPF. On the 67, it was HPF on for guitars, off for vocals. drive.google.com/open?id=1daEQNew3UhAnXegENe6oHCSAmutl7b9Cdrive.google.com/open?id=1EAfxwMKNpLRDQYasu9vyEHApu38vsMp2LOOOOVE the 67 on the guitars. The TG isn't bad, but the 67 is sooo awesome. Nice playing. I guess I'm just a vintage guy....

Yup. Stick with the 67. All the way. <thumbsup> Makes me bummed out that Max's insert didn't work with the vintage 87 - or I'd be rocking one as well. The TG is an OK mic from these perspectives you've offered, but for me, it's just too bright - and a tad 2 dimensional - in comparison to the 67. Could be the SS vs. Tube thing, but I kinda resonate with SS mics usually. I'll assume you had them right next to each other - placement wise. But yeah, I've heard that on other on-line vids and clips as well. Getting a better feel for it as best as possible with a mic that has so many settings. I know you only shot one set of settings on the guitars, but even the guitars sound more "real" to me on the 67. I guess maybe I'm just a Neumann style guy.

Yeah I preferred flat (in A or B) on guitars. To my ear, the various EQ settings mostly affect the body of the sound and the flat setting sounded the least boomy.

I love the 67 as well.
Ragan, what tube did you end up with in the MK-67?
I think I'm gonna get one...

Plus, it's always a TLM67, whereas an 87Ai is (arguably) still a useful mic. I'd rather pop a few hundred more and go that route. OR.....the vintage re-issue always calls to me...... Too many mics, so little time.

Dr Bill.... I saw earlier where you said you wished the mod worked with vintage U87's
Me too, I have a 1980 U87 with a great sounding capsule...
Oh well

Oh well Yeah, I originally bought one of Max's kits for my vintage 87 which is also in killer condition. Didn't work, and Max ended up pulling them. The Ai works great though, as does the TLM. I ended up scratching my 67 itch with a RMS269. I really like it, but you know...... I've got the Innertube Tube Insert mod for my vintage 87. THAT is one spectacular mic, but not very U67-ish. More like a 47 and C12 had a baby....

I’ve got some MK67 mics and insert with genuine Neumann transformers in the classifieds if anyone’s looking.

One guy described the TLM 67's tone, as a U87ai that just smoked a joint. Classic!

Ragan, the 67 clip bests the TG clip all the way. The 67 clip sounds fantastic.
Maybe I'm not clear, but what "67" mic are you using in those clips? I didn't think you had received your Stam SA-67 yet?

That MK67 is a great sounding mic.

I actually prefer the TG Mic on the guitars...on vocals, it definitely is bright on your vocal...so weird. It really makes me wonder if something is wrong with it... This clip - if memory serves correctly - was clicked one the right to IEC/NAB 15ips. Number 4 as some call it...It doesn't even sound like the same mic. drive.google.com/open?id=17fi8QFWaF-J7KppKT8rOi_jWdYzkOUkm

I swear to God I'm not shilling for this mic - it IS too bright on your voice. But if it didn't have the 10khz lift on your voice, I'd actually prefer it. To me, there's a 600-900 Hz boost on the MK67 that I personally don't care for.

I honestly prefered the TG mix. I blind A/B'd them. I thought it was more 3D and had energy.
