I had forgotten I shot this a few years back...Not that we were trying to beat the U47 with the TG, however, more to show the TG in just one of the possible setting combinations keeping up with one of Abbey Road's historic U47s on a famous piano in a very famous room. We were like yeah that sounds cool, let's roll...

I ended up moving mine after a couple years. Best electric guitar mic ever and a great mono overhead. Didn’t love it on lead vocals and ended up with a Soyuz 017 tube and am very happy with that. When I hear guitar tracks I did with the TG, it makes me want to get another. When I hear vocals, not so much. Still a fantastic mix for the $$. My favourite vocal sound I’ve ever got with any chain (including very high-end vintage) is the 017–>REDD47 pre—> 1176 or RS124 (depends on the track). I didn’t care for it on vocals when I heard one in action, I personally found it too etched and modern for my tastes in vocals. I’m way more of a U47 reedy mids softer top end kinda guy. I can imagine it’s stunning as a mono drum overhead. At some point in the future I’d like to shoot out an 017 against my now aged and somewhat mellowed and much loved 15 year Wunder CM7. I keep hearing very good things about the 017.

I feel like it's voiced really well for that, especially with the eq.
