John that sounds real good... John, which preamp and interface are you using with the TG mic? Would be good info...thanks. I like a Great River with my Bock mics. I have tried several other preamps, and I just like what I get with the Great River on most vocals. I'll try several preamps with this mic when I get one, but I would like to get an idea of what you are using.

Great vid, sounds really good. My friend got one in last week, he has A LOT of mic experience, and he said it's phenomenal on vocals and drums. Said it was the best/most 3D sounding he had ever heard a single mic on a drum kit sound.
I'm trying to get the most minimal possible mic locker sorted, over the next year or so: 1 LDC, 1 pair of SDCs (already have a pair of KM84s) and 1 ribbon (not sure about this, maybe a 4038?) At the moment the TG is at the top of my LDC list!

because some people don't realize that sometimes a fellow RGOer points something out to be helpful, and not try to take the piss out of another.
But hey, whatever floats yer boat.

First post, long time reader. I appreciate all the info here. There's a new video up with a number of good sound examples... check it out: Welcome! Thanks for the clips. For ME, the Chandler seems pretty hyped on most of the clips / settings. On the distorted Electric, I preferred the U87 by a large margin over every Chandler setting. On the Clean Electric, I thought the 87 sounded the most natural and un-affectd, although I could see choosing the chandler for certain modern styled recordings. On bass, the FET47 clearly is more natural and open up top for me. Didn't really listen to the acoustic, cause I'm not really a 414 guy... The chandler just always seems "EQ'd" to me. Which I guess it is. That's the whole point, right? Neumann all the way here..... It's a sound I'm intimately familiar with, and one that always works. My $0.02.

I concur. For my way of working, the mic would give me analysis paralysis. I just got a U67 which also prevents me from wanting or needing any mics for a long time!
I still think it’s a pretty cool mic and would be a great choice for people that lack one really good mic that can do a lot of things.

I thought this comparison was way better than the promo videos from before. I also agree than the U87 holds up extremely well in this environment. I wasn't really a huge fan of any of the acoustic guitar sounds they got, maybe the AKG was a good reference there.

I see some guy in the TG Mic thread on GS slagged on me having a barking dog. Probably somebody I banned here.

Welcome to the forum NoTomorrow. Thanks for sharing that link. That was a really helpful video.
I usually dislike things with lots of settings. I like to point a mic and go, like a KM84 or a U87, they basically sound good on almost everything. But the way the TG mic is laid out, I can see the benefit.
I like that there's a center setting which is the mic's basic sound, and then there are variations. It might take some time to learn which setting works best for specific purposes, but I like having different mics on different instruments when I can, and this mic seems like the best mic ever for people who need one main mic to do most everything. You could have a different sound for guitar, bass and vocal from the same source.
The U87 was that workhorse reliable mic to me. The TG mic is way more versatile, but versatility doesn't mean much if the cardioid setting on a U87 still sounds better than all those different settings, but it doesn't. The TG sounds every bit as good and more. I think I'd much rather have one of these than a U87 if you handed me both and said to keep one.
Of course I'd have to try it for myself first before making a final judgement.
* I hope to hear some vocal samples soon.

It’s definitely cheaper than a U87 as well. You are already saving money for a better sounding mic.

John, that guy was obviously afraid of any canine sound bytes. (sorry couldn't resist) I agree with MJB, I'd get the TG before the U87ai too. Chris

You guys who really know a real 67 or 87, have that sense of their naturalness and I think confidence in their utility and delivery.
A new mike like the TG has an interesting premise and I am sure is very well done but anything other than its neutral setting isn’t going to sound right(natural?), in the way the 67 or 87 would?
I guess this would just be something to get one’s head and ears around?

The TG lends no favor to that J-35 on any setting, the AKG sounds right to my ear.

Yeah not a good fit there. Did you order one? Couple of months ago, yeah. I’ve heard “in two weeks” now several times.

I have an 87 and it doesn’t sound bad, Yes, different, but I have a purpose for the TG that I wouldn’t use the 87 for anyway. I’m going by what I heard in comparison, and have not heard the 87 vs the TG video.

I watched again quickly. I prefer the TG to the U87 on electric guitar. And I don't think it's bad on the acoustic, it's just a little boomy and not as balanced as the 414. The 414 will tend to sound thinner I think which flatters a somewhat boxy guitar sound like that. And the TG is closer to the sound hole, making that distinction more pronounced.
On the bass, I don't love any of the sonics, which is the same for the other demos I've heard. I think I just don't love the sound of that bass through that amp.
