Well I took my first dive into Stam Audio. I put a deposit down for a 660. The 670 was on my list but since it went up in price I just can't swing it really at this time. Should have done the preorder!

I figure it'll either be the coolest damn vocal compressor or useful in other ways. I have a Vcomp too so they might be good options to have. Either way I wish I was getting the 670 but the price increased almost a grand.

Never really got on with the Fairchild thing..... Best of luck getting your 660!!!!

Can always grab another Vcomp too! Cheaper as well, even the 6386 edition I have now is cheaper than the 660. Rudy Van Gelder used a 660 a lot and thats enough to make me want to try it. Even if it's a clone haha How are you liking the WT Comps still? I have those on my list to get too. They have gone up in price as well. I'm also pretty sure Chris is going to try taclking the 660/670 as well. Which is VERY appealing to me. Chris does killer work.

I guess I just like VMu comps - Manley, WT's, VComp. Right now everything made in the US is going up in price due to radically increased tariff's, etc.. There's just no way around it. If Chris does a Fairchild, I might try it. But not before getting a second V Comp. Tubes kinda wig me out. Always seems to be "something" keeping them in tip top shape. And having an overseas manufacturer - even if they have stateside service - kinda freaks me out. I've got brand new Coils and one of em is distorting more than the other after just a couple months. Can't use em for stereo material right now. Tubes.....

Tubes are not an issue

I’m not saying the tubes you are sending out are an issue - just for me, in my small space where heat and space are an issue - it’s well, an issue. Also - after going through a bunch of vintage tube failure on several sta-levels, I get kind of paranoid. That being said, I might not be able to resist. stam - Any ideas on a time frame for the next 670 run?

My understanding is the 660s are using up the remaining 670 parts inventory and then that's it for StamChilds, no follow-up run.

He posted it a week ago on another New Product Alert thread:
"That's correct, I have so many spare tubes and VU meters left over that it made sense to make 50 of them as well. We are not going to make more Stamchild's after these 200 are done. Too much work, too many hours, no profit, getting insulted all the time by angry clients waiting for theirs and risking my life and my workers every time we make one, not worth it, no return. Only prestige, prestige at engineering level, only a few in the world dare to take this on.
Only 6 spots left on the 660 by the way, people loooooooove getting those huge discounts
Enjoy these incredible discount while they last, we are stooping pre-orders very soon"

Hmm I wonder if those spots haven't been full filled because you can still "preorder" a Stam child. Can't say I blame him though. There's a reason the Unfairchild costs 10k

I've recieved a order confirmation for both units, so I guess there are still some 670 out of 200 units left.

Has anyone heard these yet? Fairchild is one of my fav compressors of all time (based on mostly what I heard from other studios) But so hard to drop this kind of money without any decent demo showing drums/vocals/keys etc....

Tubes are an issue in that Fairchild's were always known to eat them like snacks. Lots of vintage reports of studios having to re-tube pretty frequently, as often as 6 months. Those are probably places that never turned them off, still......
Curious what modern tube life reports exist for users of Fairchilds and reasonably similar Fairchild clones.

That is good to know. I want to order one so bad. But damn...lot of money. I'd really want the stepped switches too. Tubes are an issue in that Fairchild's were always known to eat them like snacks. Curious what modern tube life reports exist for users of Fairchilds and reasonably similar Fairchild clones. What about NOS tubes in new comps? Would it be possible due to better PSU(solid state designs) that the tubes last longer?

Apparently four more 670 spots left.
