At that price range I think those that could afford it would just go for the Unfairchild. valid point

The Stamchild was announced about the same time that many costumers who had been waiting for ages for their 1073EQ got a “half price on anything” offer, so my guess is that many of the people selling now got it for 50% off the initial price (which I believe was 3000$). I ordered shortly thereafter, with the discount, but am still waiting for mine haha. One day it might show up, who knows.

Man....every one that was sold must be up FS on Reverb right now.... LOL Insane. ha! Probably not all..but a lot more than I thought would show up. Probably a lot of people that bought more compressor than they wanted/needed and realized how much money is tied up in it. I have not been able to find a single Stamchild listed on reverb or Ebay nor have ever heard of a customer parting with one. We have made hundreds of them so far. I just had a a call with Tony Maserati last week and him and Eddie Kramer's are not going anywhere, they are very happy. Could you kindly point me to the listing? Just looked on reverb and Ebay and there is nothing

The 20 tubes would be a concern, but most of the tubes will likely be fine for years to decades- I hope! Just when I think of my guitar amps they all seem to do ok for a long time. But maybe 670 is a whole other maintenance beast.. could it benefit from some rack exhaust fans? One could use a cheap 12v line lump supply and connect new quiet computer case fans. I swapped out my console PSU fan this way after seeing John Hardy suggest it’s easy and doable (in case anyone gets ideas, tread wisely.. go for the highest CFM quiet fan over original CFM.. I went from loud 65 CFM fan to 100+ CFM super quiet fan it’s been a few months, seems ok so far- fingers still crossed, + I have a backup PSU just in case). Still I’m attracted to difficult to reach sound like a moth to a bug light. You're talking about a sledge hammer compared to a scalpel here in comparing a guitar amp to a 2 Buss compressor. For me, tubes don't go "bad". They go intermittent, weird, crackly, change in volume, do strange things at the worst moments and often leave me not using the unit when I need it. Now....multiply X 20, and make it stereo where imaging is important. I'm sure Stam will say that all his tubes are tested, dialed in, matched, and perfect. And I've had the exact same from other revered tube suppliers here in the states that I trust implicitly go bad quickly, cause bizarre issues, and generally cause me grief. Tubes are not static in my experience. They are a expendable commodity that's meant to be maintained and changed out by an experienced tech who knows how to get things back to spec. That's my experience and my $0.02. Yours may - and almost certainly will - vary. But 20 tubes in a matched stereo unit gives me serious pause for thought. No matter how great it may sound. Changing out tubes is grade school stuff. Getting a stereo tube compressor to track, compress, gain and image right has been one of the most frustrating gear experiences in my life. And that particular unit only had a fraction of the tubes a 670 requires. I would have to agree, it is a real pain This is why we have a stash of 30.000 NOS 6BA6 tubes which have been measured and have made paired couples. We can service these units for decades to come as we have one of the largest supply in the world available to us. This is also why we started this project. No point making something you cant service and we plan to be around for a while. When a client runs into trouble with a tube we usually send a pair or even the full 16 set matched and labeled to our tech so he can swap them all and the unit functions normally again. Due to our strict protocol of letting each Stamchild pass audio for 5 days before shipping them this margin has been greatly reduced. We have made close to 200 units now, over 50 have been running for 3 years now with no issues but as you said, tubes are not static and problems can always occur. Is the price to pay for having these beasts at our disposable.

Don’t have a dog in this rich race, but I have never seen a stamchild for sale used: have seen only pics of happy customers receiving theirs. Not saying there haven’t been any, but other than keeping them well ventilated, I haven’t read any concerns about their performance either. Basically, colour me jelli!

I’ve seen a bunch on Reverb. There’s 4 up there now. I think if the seller doesn’t ship to your country, then they won’t show up in your search.

Well, that and probably a lot of people that thought it would be life changing. I imagine some of those are people that bought it using their 50% discount, never intending to keep it in the first place.

I see five Stamchilds on Reverb right now, ranging in price from $5500 to $8572 😳
I’ve seen tons of them go up for sale over the last six months or so. That doesn’t mean it’s not a great unit of course.
For me, when you take into account both the initial purchase price and the ongoing maintenance, the plug-in is an easy choice. 😎

I think Quint nailed it, that a significant number may have purchased at the 50% deal, with the idea of flipping at some point?
I haven’t read any criticisms of the sonics: anyone ?

Funny. I just checked now. There is 1 listed by a dealer in Belgium and it's 1500 dollars cheaper than the unfairman. Any I've seen have been from shops. There are a couple listed on ebay in ebay germany as new by one guy. I'm not sure I would even trust that but he may be a shop.

Now I can see it , thanks for the links 6.500 USD, wow. Oh well, if people are happy to pay that for one I guess I can only take it as a compliment. There are always a few in reverb and eBay from our distributors from Germany and Spain but I had never seen a user selling one until now.

He is a shop. We have distribution in Germany, UK and Spain as well as G4M which covers all of the EU and they list on eBay and reverb through their re-sellers.

Josh, since you're here, can I ask about my SA670? I paid my final invoice in full on February 2. On March 18, I emailed Andreina to ask about the status, and she told me it would ship next week. I understand you are on a 30 day lockdown again, but I was invoiced 2 months ago.
Anyways, I'd appreciate if you could look into for me! And I have no plans to flip it on Reverb either!

Given the fact I think 3 of them have the mastering switch option I'm sure most here are right in that they were people that took the 50% discount for them. And I bet part of it is it's too much compressor for most anyways. I know they behave a bit differently than other compressors so for an young not experience amateur engineer I can see how they might not just like the way it compresses and don't spend the time to find it's secrets. Or something. Who Knows. I wasn't really knocking the build or anything like that. I honestly have wanted one from Day 1. But I see that you can still get one from you for $4500 so why the hell would someone pay 6500 for it haha I know there is a wait but sheesh that's a hell of a mark up.. speak of which... any news on the 660s?

I thought these listings were insane but I hadn't checked the Stam website in a long time. SA-670 preorder price is $4,900 and in stock price is $6900. So, if you don't want to wait I guess $6,500 isn't too crazy. Lots of room to make an offer on those listings though I would think 😁 Are there any reviews or audio clips of the SA-670 out anywhere? The only one I could find so far was this(there is a little audio towards the end):

I haven’t see any actual shoot outs or sonic commentaries: thought that interesting: was wondering if many are so used to listening to digital now, that classic analog tone takes time to integrate ?

I put my pre order down the day it was announced... Ended up paying a fraction of what they are going on reverb. But I will never part with mine, I love it dearly and have FOUR SA-660s on order. I believed in STAM since day one and have been rewarded with the upside of that. Between stam and bitcoin if you ignore the noise from people on the sidelines and focus on the signal there is lots to gain ... it's a beautiful piece and adds a ton , can't wait to track with my FOUR SA-660s soon but no rush, STAM is in lockdown again and I feel like I invested in this company in early days, i just want them to be healthy and get back to work when it's safe. From the mics to outboard, stam has proven time and time again if you can deal with the wait you are getting insane value on the dollar. "call it what you wanna call it im a f**king stamaholic" lol
