I wonder how all this will affect Independent repair people, who work on Neumann's? Chris You can still get parts, you just have to purchase through a dealer.

IIRC the UK price with VAT is pretty close to the US price. Most of the savings was that US purchasers don’t have to pay VAT. VAT really is a killer ain't it? Someone's got to pay for it all, I suppose.

you can call Senn/Neumann in the US directly at 860-434-9190 but they will quote you full retail so you may be able to get a better price thru your favorite dealer. mc

I’ve been messing around with the vocal track of a song I’m working on. The key is a little high for me, so my voice is strident in certain parts. I’m trying to de-ess,and use subtle automation and compression, but you can only do so much when your original vocal isn’t quite right.
I might have to pop for a Sooth plug-in, but i’d much rather put that money towards some other things. I don’t have a good outboard compressor, but I’m beginning to think that the SA67 will be killer when I finally get a decent compressor.

As a guy with a bright voice who’s spent many years battling it (particularly before I got the MaxMod), I’d recommend FabFilter ProQ3 if you’re gonna invest in some software. Holding down shift and lowering the dynamic EQ band on the offending frequencies leaves the transients intact but de-resonates that chunk of the spectrum. It’s the most transparent way of doing it I’ve come across. Soothe is cool and unique (and it’s been awhile since I demo’d it) but more of a one trick pony. ProQ3 is incredible and incredibly useful on all kinds of things. First insert on almost any track for me. FabFilter is also running their sale right now I think. Or, don’t you have a bunch of Waves stuff? Have you tried C4/C6 multiband comp on this vocal? I don’t think it’s in the same league as the FF stuff (I’ve got C6) but it still might do the job.

Thanks guys, for responding to my Neumann parts question. Short run it'll matter more for my 2 Buddies, with U87's. MJB, don't laugh, but the Soyuz Launcher lessens my sssibilance. IMHO it enhances a dynamic (like your SM7). Plus it can be used on tube mics too. Just a thought. (it also waxes my car and changes the oil too! ) Chris

Shout out to weird audio
I purchased the little red monster and encourage anybody to test it against a U67 and be surprised and happy as I am. I love my mic.

Somebody has got to get it through Tommy from Weird Audio's head that this kind of trolling not only isn't winning him clients but is hurting his chances of selling microphones.

Hi Bill, good to hear from you. I've already deleted those vocals and moved on from that track. My vocal kept bugging me, it's not the mic. I'll post dry and processed for you whenever I get back to that track. It may be a while because of Covid-19. My recording space has been taken over by my wife while she teaches classes and hosts seminars online. I haven't had any time to myself to record in four months, ugh...
I still would love to have an LA2A or Sta-Level style hardware compressor. I feel that would be most of what I need to reach the quality level I'm shooting for. Plug-ins just haven't cut it yet. This is the general vocal quality I'm trying to reach at home. I do realize it's done in a great room, with a great engineer and producer with a world class board and processors, but I do feel I can get close. The SA67 has the right ack-ack attack the vintage 67 has.

Just to give everyone a heads up ProAudioLA (so I'm assuming all US Neumann dealers) can get the transformers.

Hi MJB. Just wanted to say I "get", how Pete's singing vibe and yours are related. You both have a sincerity and authenticity about it. Great antidote to a lot of the seemingly mindless/overly Autotuned stuff out there! I ended up re-listening (and expanding) in the Genre of "Mountain Soul" (largely Bluegrass based) to get more of this "Authenticity". Chris

It's very interesting to hear that track and different takes on the u67 qualities.
When I think u67, I think of the vocals on Lou Reed's Transformer. It nails that velvety silky detailed thing that just seems almost ethereal. I had an adk z67 for a while (would love one again some day) and it did a similar thing on my voice that I miss a lot.

Worth noting that, as far as I know, it’s a guess that that Townsend track is a U67. I don’t think we ever found any record of what mic it was. May not be a U67 at all.

Check out TBProAudio's DSEQ for something similar to Soothe, but works even better in many situations and costs only 80 Euros. You can demo it too. This developer makes great tools and offers incredible customer service. www.tb-software.com/TBProAudio/dseq.htmlBut I'd recommend just cutting the vocal again and back up about three or four inches. It can do wonders.
