What's a good price for a used TLM67? Been looking for one around the 1300 mark. Jealous of ragan's score! I've got a line on one with the shock mount for 1500. Don't wanna overpay for a donor, though. That looks fair, I have seen asking prices with everything of $17-1800.

Just think since Max's kit is easy to reverse we need to convince him a similar vintage 87 module would be cool for those who chose the TLM67 donor ! Hey Max as a fee for developing new products you can just give me a 47 kit !

I am continually impressed by just how good the MK U67 sounds. It really is in a different league than my other microphones. I reached out to Max to see if he had an M49 offering, but alas he does not. He is working on getting the complete kits for the MK U47 together. That is tempting. I grabbed a couple EF86 to experiment with as well, and I'm liking one even better than the PF86 that comes with it (although the included PF-86 is still really good). Its really nice that Max gave us a switch to allow the use of both in it. If you haven't yet, try putting a few EF-86 tubes in there. I haven't tried any new tubes yet. Been meaning to reach out to bowie, but haven't done so yet. Very happy with the PF86, but I'd be game to try some different tubes and have a back up if needed.

Anybody know if you can order the silver/non-TLM body separately? ericnI can only find U.K. Prices for U87 body parts but US are supposedly close, a U87 body without capsules $1700 with capsule $2500 used cheaper than parts!

I think he was talking about buying the TLM67 itself from the U.K. The body tube (which is all you'd need to make a TLM67 look like an 87) you can get from any Neumann/Senn dealer. $200-something.

I think the ones that were floating around cheaper may have started disappearing due to the aforementioned mod becoming available. Now they're moving for a little more. Supply and demand. I seem to recall seeing a couple of used ones for ~$1300 around the end of last year.

I watched used in the late spring / summer (things are cheaper then) for a few months and never saw mic with shock less than $1500, but saw that several times within a month. $1400 once w/o shock.

I was set on picking one up from last summer through December, and could never find myself willing to pull the trigger on one, even though I saw a few TLM67's go for around the 1300-1500 mark. Had a renewed interest and have been keeping eyes peeled these last few months, but haven't really found any for that, at least online.

In the past GC used had a glut of used 87ai & TLM67's suddenly they and a lot of other stuff was priced aggressively, that moved a bunch and changed the market, there seamed to have been a memo, at GC reduce quickly to move used stuff. At one point last year they had 8 87ai & 5 TLM67's on their site. That can effect the market.

I decided to see what I could do with the existing TLM67 body/badge before ponying up for the proper ones.
Sanded the body down to 1500 (after Bondo-ing the holes from the George Neumann head badge) and just used some rattle can I found at HD.
The badge I sprayed black (several very light coats, on the body tube too) and then steel wooled the high spots/edges back to chrome.
Not perfect but not bad. For a few bucks and not much time at all.
I haven't clear coated yet, but I'm using a matte finish so it'll look pretty much the same. Just to protect the paint.

Well shit fire. My next project. Wanna share the paint you used? Yeah you bet. m.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Universal-11-oz-All-Surface-Metallic-Satin-Nickel-Spray-Paint-and-Primer-in-One-261409/202895278I just used a heat gun, angling into the inside of the body tube, to heat up both badges from behind, they come off easily, though you'll need a glove cause the body tube gets super hot. Then I Bondo'd the George head holes, you could use a sandable metal epoxy too, I just do a lot of finish carpentry so I always have Bondo around. Sand the tube. I started with 800 then went down to 1500, took my time with it since a good prep job = a good paint job. I masked off the black ring at the top of the tube and started spraying. I did 3-4 light coats, 45 min apart. Let it cure a day (ish) then I clear coated (just now). I just used Rustoleum matte clear coat. Oh the badge. It doesn't like to take the paint at first. Runs off the red. I just did a couple really light coats, 45 min apart and it started to stick. I steel wool'd the high spots a couple times to keep it from building up too much on the chrome. 000 or 0000 steel wool. Pretty easy. The you can just put a couple little daubs of super glue on the badge nubs and stick it back on (after everything's dry). There was a guy on GS who did it with nitro (which was my inspiration to give it a go). A higher quality way to do it, no doubt, but I'm not set up for that. Also way more expensive. This really turned out pretty nice for a quick rattle can job. World's better than that ugly ass TLM head badge situation.

Not that you asked for a whole rundown. You might have a better way to do it.
