I owned a 550B that was new about 6 years back.. it blew chunks.. I didn't like it at all.
Looking forward to these though!
cheers

Sounds good. This 550x EQ format is one of my all time favorites.

Of course the B's have an extra band, but definitely sound "in the camp". IMO, in a perfect well stocked 500 world, I'd like the A's better, but I've had at least a couple of B's for when an extra band is needed.

Doesn't look like there's an LC53A sample in there? I thought about it for a second but did not want to confuse the situation. While the LC53A has the same frequency set, the upper cut/boost amounts are set different and it is a totally different topology. I wanted to stick with bridged-t style filters for this comparison.

I really like the 550b for the music I do. 40 is perfect for sub bass, 50-100 for kick drums also 75 as well on 2 band. Need meat on that snare add 6db at 180/240, if the snare is funny in the mid notch out 500, 400, or 300 depending on how much mid u want to remove! Need smack on snare dial in some 2.5k 4 band shelf, with 5k bell 3 band add to taste, instant smack, bite, reminds me of Dr. Dre snares. Weak claps overshadowed, then add some 1.5 k 3band while spanking the 5k / 7k / 10k 4 band depending on how much pop you want!
Ok I got a little ahead of myself, tell me more about 550a? How does it compare to 550b? I don't own the HW, just plugs! if CAPI can make 19" that would be cool! Tell me how you use 550 style Eq!
What CAPI Eq are similar to 550b, I am not well versed in CAPI gear, I know blasphemy:)

I think the BT50 with Panasonic caps is the closest match to the vintage 550. I liked the TDK on the vocal so I would be happy with either. I will definitely be picking up at least a pair of the BT50s.
Nice job Jeff !!

Did Jeff ever comment on the price and availability? Not yet. That guy's a slow mover these days The BT50 kits will street for $449 plus 2 opamps. I am trying to get the new LC kits released before I get the BT's launched. It is still a little ways off but the design is fully flushed out. I'm currently about 50% of the way thru sorting the first 100 LC kits. My wife (who usually does the majority of the sorting) is back in IL packing up the remainder of our personal shit so it's all on me right now.....

Had a hard time choosing between the BT50 and the LCs. I think he BT might punch a little more, but ultimately liked the flexibility of the lcs.

I will (hopefully) promptly begin shooting the BT50 build pictorial then. We are prepping to start sorting the parts kits now. I ordered all of the bag labels yesterday. Busy busy!

Well, not surprisingly, these sound fantastic! I was drawn a bit more to the TDK version, but I can't really tell you why. Maybe I felt a bit more oomph down low. Probably imagined it. I don't have the greatest of ears, but the BT50s sure sounded extremely close to the vintage 550A. Closer to the 550A than the 550, but of course we're talking extremely minor differences. And I shouldn't be trusted to tell the difference anyway. Great job again, Jeff. It's been a while since I've built any CAPI stuff, but the stuff I have built is used every single day. Will definitely load up on a couple of these BT50s when they're available.

Need... BT...50....to....survive...digital....realm..... -----end transmission. *static* Man, I had a REALLY hard time deciding between this and the LC25. Ended up with the LC just because of versatility. But the bottom end on these are tremendous. If I were doing drums here, I'd have a rack of them. Really sounds like it's in between the vintage 550 and 550A.

I am working on the release. We were away for a few days last week which put a small crimp in getting them out. We are 2/3 of the way thru sorting parts for the first 100 kits. I am also 2/3 of the way thru editing and organizing the build pics. I am still aiming for a before Thanksgiving release. In related news, I dropped a LB full of LC25's, LC40's and BT50's off this am at RCA A for Vance and Cobb to use on the new Chris Stapleton record.
