I finally opened my wallet for Black Friday forAcon’s restoration suite or whatever they call it. But mostly I am sitting on my wallet. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

I traded my Neumann U87 to a Fender Jaguar from 64. Old refin other then that it's all original. Great score, imo. Yeah the refin lowers the value, but at the end of the day it’s just paint. Nicely done! Cheers, Geoff

It's been a slow year. So far a bunch of cabling and connection plates for the new studio I'm building... well, the new studio building I'm into for about $50K or $60K so far (only my accountant knows for sure, today) but I did pick up a Samar VL37 which is mind altering. EDIT: Also purchased an old Gibson Tube Amp - 1961 Gibson Falcon Tube Amp GA 19 RVT. Only 204 of them were ever made, and this one is almost all original, and nicely shit-hauled. See attached. The Great River EQ-2NV has been a huge asset to my studio. It can do anything and everything. I am shocked how much I use it just for the HPF and the stepped input gain switch. I guess it is my Great River/Neveish version of the Missing Links. I wish I would have bought this Eq long ago! I also picked up a JDK R24 eq. It is built better then I expected and after some modding has turned out to sound nice. Still not close to the EQ-2nv or a few other eq's I have but sounds great for the money and mods I have into it. I still have plans to dig into it a little more when I have time. This eq is for fast tonal shaping and has wide bells. The top does sound surprisingly good. The main knock on it is, it always sounds bloated in the bottom. Which for certain things may be perfect. I think this could be a great drum tracking eq. I also finally had time to finish my PTP C12 build based around one of Chunger's kits. I have been using a Tim C. capsule in it that I had in a cheaper Advanced Audio mic. This mic is much better use for the TC capsule. I also have a Eric H capsule coming to compare. I am excited to finally have one of Eric's capsules to listen to! Overall, I am really happy with this mic, I do think it is a little dark. I need to compare it to a few other c12 type mics to know. It sounds more linear, with extended top and bottom compared to some of the other mics I have with the Nuemann mid range. It has great reach and the 9 patterns makes it great for tracking acoustic instruments. I also got a cool pair of vintage TX from Noah S. They sound really cool. I now have a few pairs of vibey/strange 1:1 type transformers that are really useful. I need to either wire them to my patch bay or figure out some slick way to quickly get in and out of them. I also recently picked up a Behringer cable tester on the recommendation of drbill . I have yet to use it. I am sure it will make life a little easier. I think that is most of the recent little gear additions. I have a pair of cable testers (neither is Behringer) They're both great and useful, as they hasve different auxilliary function in adition to the basic cable test.

The behringer has 2 stupid little features I miss besides fitting in a pants pocket. TT cable test & a single freq tone generator. I miss both & the size, I do not miss the build quality. I used to buy them at least 3 at a time.

I bought a Groove Tube Model 2, which has a Josephson made capsule, that didn't have a power supply or cable very cheap. As someone who's been down this road with these microphones I know that the Sterling Audio PSM-1 power supply is identical, except that it uses a 7 pin XLR cable instead of the 9 pin DSUB (the mic only uses 7 pins). Found a Sterling ST69 for $50 locally, ordered the $5 DSUB connector from DigiKey, and will chop one end of the Sterling mic cable to put the two together like I did for my Model 3 microphones
Also made my Black Friday software purchase of the year and got everything Apusoft makes…pretty much cost the same as buying the 2 I was most interested in

The LTL Hitmaker Comp modules wasn’t the replacement for my old C1 I was hoping for, so popped the Tape79 module back in there and patch the C1LA into the insert of the Silver Bullet. Feels like my analog mix buss chain for the home rig is set…

No nipples when adjacent bands are boosted. It freaking flat-tops by interpolating between ISO points. I didn't believe it would do what Rane said it would do. It does do it! This is like some next level ProQ3 stuff. Check out the freq trace below... I think this is the only analog EQ on Earth that can do this. If there are others, I'd be keen to be corrected. Rane never fails to impress.

Well unfortunately these days unless you’re a DJ! While their primary focus was install / affordable live, they always had some gear with some unorthodox twists. In 96 I was programming and installing AMX av control systems….the company used a lot of Rane gear I probably sold more Rane Graphics & Crossovers than any other, at one point I owned 10 ch of JW modded RE27’s. Wish I could find a couple of the parametrics with all 5 bands of LF EQ, those things should have been on every ones must have list!

Looking at a si glue filter shows a lot, but with a graphic you really need to see how the filters work together. Unfortunately there is no perfect for everything Graphic, those with nice sharp constant Q filters are great for taking out notches, but not as great when you need a small boost or cut of a couple of adjacent bands. The manual provides this warning: "ATTENTION SHOPPERS This seems like a good place to throw in a few words of caution. The DC 24 allows a great deal of flexibility. As such, it also allows one to come dangerously close to completely destroying an otherwise respectable audio signal if some thought and care is not put into the operation of the unit. There are combinations of THRESHOLD and RATIO settings on the Gate, Expander and Limiter which allow each to fight the others and in some cases completely cancel." The other Rane goody I got is the Balance Buddy 8 channel balunbal. Super useful utility with nice transfos. And for me at least, the Rane technical documents on cable connections and ground were very helpful for learning. They definitely had the knowledge onboard.

Since you’re not Tony & can’t just walk down the street pop in and say “ what can you do with this ?” Just give Jim a Call. He’s blunt and honest about what he does can do and what he is willing to try.

I enjoy it, for some tracks it seems to help shave the edges off of drums and electric guitars in a nice way. I think it pairs nicely with the "N" Mojo. I wish it was easier to access whatever you have installed in the Mojo C so you can play with the dip switches and A/B settings easier. But, I'm finding it useful. It sort of does the opposite of the Hitmaker 4000 module which adds excitement and top end, this sort of mellows things and takes off the edge. So, really depends on what you find yourself needing to more often.

picked up a used Telefunken M80-SH (the short version, for snare duty). So now I'll part with my "normal" M80 that is the long version. Same sound, just easier to position.

Received a used Oktava MK-012 (black) with the hypercardioid capsule today. Will have to try it on a few things to see if I like it. Never had one before.
Also have another Audio Technica ATM 230 on the way (also used). Got it from GC/MF so I hope it's not f**d up (but if it is I'll send it back). That would give me a total of 4 (though I rarely ever have that many toms setup).

Ordered some Ghost Cable to give it a try, and going further down the cork sniffing path with some G&H XLR connectors ($6 instead of $3…not ready to spend $40 on one yet 🤣)…
Picked up a Royer R 121 from a buddy so now I have a pair…
Had a very nice offer to upgrade to the Eventide Anthology XII bundle, so bit that bullet…
And the Toyko Dawn SlickEQ I didn’t own

Second-hand Tascam Model 2400 arrived yesterday, sorta barely setup today and already feeling good. My basement studio is "modest" and the Tascam suits the mood. Sounds good so far, running vocals, acoustic guitar and bass through the pres/EQ/comp in each channel. I love being able to record "to tape" with the Tascam while at the same time having everything end up in Logic.
Edit: And... the machine has to be returned. One of the channels is glitchy, cutting in and out depending on anything being jiggled. And tracks 11/12 won't output audio. This could be user error - a specialty of mine - but I kinda doubt it. All settings on 11/12 match the settings of the other tracks. If I copy the material recorded on 11/12 to, say, 13/14 or 1/2, I can hear it no prob.
Still, I'm happy to have the 2400 in my space to try out and get to know. I'll return it and probably go for a new one instead. This unit did have signs of a bump - one of the end pieces has split where it was clearly knocked into.

Got one each of a CAPI LC25 and LC40 kit coming with Jeff’s 0252 op amps! Looked like there were more of those available when I bought mine in case anyone has been itching for them.
Also got an Undertone Audio GB Tracker and Satellite since they’re one sale this week!
