Thanks for the feedback Paul, Heider here I come! Yeah I know the whole pre thing is definitely blown out of proportion on forums, the first album I recorded was tracked on a Fostex VF16 standalone multitrack recorder and it honestly doesn't sound all that bad. But you know as a songwriter that tracks pretty much everything separately and through one pre these days, I do feel like the sound of the pre does come through a little. My last EP was pretty much tracked through my Mercury M72s and do hear its " sound " but I want something a little edgier this time around.
I just checked out your mic collection wow! Awesome place you got! Brice, the cool thing of this forum is there are some pretty heavy hitters sharing advice and knowledge and you don't have a bunch of guys commenting about things they know nothing about.

Hey Rick! Yeah it does seem that way! Though I remember GS when it was like that too, I've been on there since 2004 although pretty much inactive in the last 6 years, and I literally got an audio education there( thanks to thethrillfactor, jim williams, drbill and many others ) and since have been able to achieve ( modest ) success in this business. Anyway it's nice to be here! Welcome, bricejchandler! Yeah - I have both. I would recommend the Heider. It's assembled, and it has a ton of different tones. With the HiQ thingy (which I pretty much leave pushed "on") the mic has a little more top end. I believe the impedance is different with the HiQ out, in and different again with the pad engaged. The Heider is just awesome on Acoustics...punchy as hell.
