I used it line level on a lame acoustic track. It really brought some life to the track. So you can use it that way. So even owning one is useful to use during mixing. But if 1 is good 2 is better... so I have a pair! Seriously its a killer pre. I'm gonna track some drums with them tomorrow!

I want one. jsteiger I see it has a fader so I'm assuming one could use two of these on a buss. I see a mic button so is that the mic/line switch? I guess my question would be, how do you use them on a buss if you do? Thanks I would assume the missing links would be a better option for buss duties...no?

I can HONESTLY say I didn't want to buy them at all until I heard them. Then I was screwed and had to buy them.

Scott Holiday of Rival Sons was tracking some guitars today at Sound Emporium in Nashville. Preamp of choice? The Heider FD312!!

Just read the Heider FD312 review in "ProAudio Review" Mag, comparing it to the Sonic Farm Creamer and Pete's Place Electrodyne 501. Good review.

Can the heider do the capi vp312 sound? The open cleanish api sound? I'm trying to decide between a capi 312 and vc528 combo or a heider.

It's a dual trannie, right Jeff? I thought the Heider was even more rich in the midrange...The Heider can do both - clean and driven. On the other hand, you would be going through 3 transformers with the VP312 and ML...I really liked that combo. The answer is to buy all three.

Hmm... i have 2 x vp28' s, 2 x vc528's and I'm adding 2 more vc528's, I was hoping the heider does both so I don't have to add 4 more modules lol

Yeah I love the comparison to the API console, and the accurate remarks about Jeff's top-notch build quality and design. What a cool preamp/line amp, I hope it does well.

For you guys who have used the Heiders - looks like I may be picking up a pair of pres as my next gear purchase (though it's going to be awhile). These Heider's seriously have my attention. I'm on this constant search for depth and thickness yeah, yeah gear porn funny haha. I know that depth is achieved from many factors throughout the production process including mic placement, song arrangement, eq'ing textures, choice of reverb & delay, etc. What do you guys have to say about these pres in terms of their 3 dimentionality? I'd also like to know what people think about running their mixes through these.
My gig is recording guitars and bass for a software company. Anything I can do to make these tracks as big and deep as possible is my goal. I know JK loves these on acoustic so that has my interest. Any thoughts?
Thanks

I would think they would be awesome for that..."Punch" and "detail" are two words that come to mind with these.

I read the review and saw the AD in Tape Op , VERY Awesome ! If I wasn't a spoiled bastard from cheap DIY gear I'd buy one .

Well, it is definitely more than a DIY pre but way less than other commercial pre's of similar stature.
