thanks for taking the time to do a mix and put up for everyone to hear bud... very cool. First reaction, Deep. Deep is cool. 8) Then the arrangement change, excellent... really good.. it needs something like that.. really really cool. Delay on the acoustic is cool. Cymbals sound really nice, hard panned. Notes I want to EQ things in the mix differently. The whole song is neither bright, dull, or super even balanced tonal wise. Some things are spot on, others a little dull and some bright. Have a listen to that, with that in mind.. then listen to the "Faders up " mix and see what I mean. The fade out is to jumpy, fades gots ta be smooth 8) Tom error is in there 8) cheers and thanks great job Wiz Thanks for the comments Wiz. I hear ya on some things but the EQ comment is a little puzzling as I didn't do a lot of EQ'ing of things for the most part on mix 1 of the tune. More bottom on the snare and a little dip out of the kick but really small stuff. I guess it all adds up. Yep, the fade blew chunks. Here is another mix with some more things EQ'd differently and the break is different with guitar instead of bass and the tom setup is gone, as is few other hits. Also longer fade out on this mix. No need to comment if you do not desire but this is more along the line of where I was headed and how I hear the tune in my headspace. Thanks again for sharing your tune for us knuckleheads and fader jockeys, it was fun to play with. https%3A//soundcloud.com/miximusmaximus/fool-me-once-2

Peter - I'm an idiot...that was my first bounce since migrating from Logic to Pro Tools. [facepalm]. Here's the stereo version (also working on a revision which incorporates some of Odyssey76's arrangement and FX ideas): Fool Me Once (Print Track)Hey Jason firstly thanks for having a go and posting the result. one word... MONO! alright, a MONO MIX. (well I assume its what you want and you checked your bounce right LOL 8) ) Puts a whole different spin on the track. Very cool. The tom error is in there (he he) Nice job bud cheers Wiz Ha Ha thats great... sounds cool... very stereo now 8) How are you finding the change from Logic to Tools, and if I may, why? cheers Wiz

I'd bought a UAD voucher which expired, and I got an extension, so I had to try out some UAD plugs quickly. So I opened "Fool Me Once" again and auditioned some stuff. The Manley Variable Mu is a nicerizer, makes everything sound better. The Maag EQ is nice, I'd never used any version of it. The Dangerous bax eq is sweet too. I also used the Ampex 2-trk for the first time. I tweaked my mix, and the result is better enough that I'm posting this latest version. It's never seen any analog since it left Wiz' house. www.dropbox.com/l/YJOt0oGoEXSKA6OiOqAmmoHey Don sounds really BIG and lush .... 8) and that fade is just to die for, seriously... I love it. Its in exactly the right spot and just perfectly done... It might sound weird.. but the art of the fade has kinda been lost I reckon... Bob O did one for me on the last record and it was awesome... I love a bit of a good fade out.. How did you do it? cheers Wiz

Hey mulmany really good solid mix. I really like the different take on the panning.... really cool. This has been such a cool experience. Again, the different take on mixing the tune, makes me see it in a different light.. great stuff thanks for contributing.. cheers Wiz

Thanks Wiz. There was a time in pop music that just about every song faded out. I learned watching pro AE's do it by hand with the master faders. If you do it by ear, it's not that hard. The fade starts gentle, then gets steeper as the volume decreases, then gets gentle again at the threshold of audibility. I faded on the third rep of the end choruses, and the last thing you hear is the "Fool me once" of the last rep. It starts on bar 90 in my edited session. The last thing you hear is at bar 99. I didn't fade the multi-mix, I edited the 2-mix for the shorter intro and fade. I tweaked the data points until it sounded the way I wanted.
