I like the TLM67 a little better on acoustic too. It's a nice mic for sure. It is very flat, but not in a bad way. It's just kind of Even Steven. Gets good sound and then you can do what you want with it. Is that TLM67 yours? You ever think about getting Max's 67 conversion kit?

How does 3u GZ251tube or fet compare to Bock 241 which has just been discontinued - I was considering Bock 241 to compliment my Beezneez Arabella(u47/m49), Mahalia (u67) & Samar AL39 vocal mics, and am now left with these mics to consider; Josephson c 715 or c716, or maybe Blue bottle - however if the 3u GZ251 overall sound quality isn't noticeably far below the Beezneez mics I already have, I would consider it to plug the gap ( C12/251) in mic types I have in the small vocal mic section of my locker Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

There aren't many 3U tube mics in the wild. I only know of one GZ251 tube out there. So very hard to say. I will say this though, after getting a Warbler and a GZ67Fet I sold off several mics, including a pair of 414b-ULS and a Soundelux (Bock's old company) U95s with a custom MicRehab capsule.

Whoa. A Soundelux U95 is considered by some one of the better mics ever made. That, plus a capsule from Shannon, and the GZ67FET outgunned it? That's really saying something. My wife did a vocal session in L.A. for some heavy writer/session cats who were in Ringo's band at the time. They used the Soundelux U95 on her sessions and it sounded great. I bought the Bock Audio U95 based on that, and turned right around and sold it. I found the pickup pattern was just to wide. I bought the original Blackspade UM-17 then, and it killed it.

Mine was the U95s, which was his flagship, US made, 47 style mic. The 3U stuff didn't 'outgun' it. But the 47 style isn't the greates fit for my voice and on me, the $270 cardioid only Warbler MKI sounded better. Again, on my voice. The U95s was a lovely mic, but it wasn't a match made in heaven on my voice. The Warbler and then the GZ67Fet both for better for me. But yeah, they weren't an obvious, inherent stepndown in quality, which is saying something given the 3U stuff's pricepoint.

For what it's worth, I just tracked a great female singer who wanted to redo a vocal she wasn't happy with on her record (which she's making with a veteran, well known engineer/producer here in Seattle). I used the GZ67Fet and they ended up using the first verse of what she did here and the rest of the vocal she'd done with him, which was on a vintage U87 (his mic of choice). Comp'd it right in. He actually called me to ask what mic I'd used on her cause he liked it.

The U95 is a great mic but besides the fact that it has to match the voice the heart of that mic is a selected QC'ed retry generic made in China Capsule.

I had a (stock) U95 on loan and was able to shoot it out with my voice against my Warbler MKID, which was my go-to mic at the time. The U95 beat it out easily - It was warmer and much more flattering in general, and I was sore tempted to buy one, but I just knew I could do even better. Luckily my budget let me spend just a little more and a Blackspade is making me quite happy these days.

Here's a comparison between the Slate VMS FG-67 and the 3U Audio GZ67Fet. The VMS 67 is using the VMS 1073 and the GZ67Fet is going through a Heritage DMA-73.
