yeah kcat, there is something(pun intended) about this 002, i'm praying to the audio Gods nightly to let my forthcoming RM conversion at least equal this thing! As far as real guitar player... really? lol, i'm NOT a guitar player, all of you guys smoke me! I'm a drummer and a bass player, the short fingernails are a MUST for bass playing so i keepem high and tight 8)

...I just received a response from Toni Roger Fishman at Telefunken in regards to the U47's capsule mount height issue: "The internal capsule mount has changed form the original design. The first 200 U47 had a mesh surround that was like a divider that split the head grill I will look for some photos and try to post them but this is very rare and hard to find as so many mics have been modified. This is the real way it was to be set up (pic below), but why they changed to what we see today would take much research to figure out. The height is slightly shorter in the original and taller in the later units. It would be interesting to do some test with modified capsule mounts and heights. We may be willing to look into some tests as I've always wanted to make the earlier mount available to those that needed the parts to restore the first 200 units to stock." Attachments:

I heard he settled in Europe now. Have his new address in my database, more via PM. Surprisingly, it's right around the corner.
But i guess Tony has to try quite a few more tubes in selected pairs to squeeze the optimum out of the mic. And give them a one-month full burn-in. Each pair. You know, the last 20% of a perfect mic build takes 80% of the time. And nobody knows the strange ways of postal services...sometimes packages just disappear....pfffffft...

Sounds great, Tony! Can't wait to sing on it! After hearing that sample, if for some reason you ever sell this mic, I'm resigned to believe there is no hope for you to ever be satisfied with anything. Just saying.
