Opinion weigh-in time, peers...
How will the release and price of the Warm EQ affect the pricing of other Pultec clones such as the Cartec Audio, Tube-Tech, Pro Replicas and kits from various DIY sources?

Pultecs are very simple beasts. Most of the high prices were allowed due to the "vintage" mystery. Did they mention in this thread if this was the opamp or the tube version?

True. i think it's mainly because there are still people who believe that brand is hand-in-hand with sound, and that by buying a brand name, they are getting something more elevated than a clone.

Hey I'm not complaining...the WA76 is a great buy...but these are built to a price point, correct?
BTW - these are going to be tube EQ's.

The WA76 does exactly what I wanted it to do, has it's own flavor and to me sounds better than any of the 1176's I've heard, excepting the original UREI's. So if money was no object, I'd still have bought one or two, even if I could afford the mintiest UREI. The price is just the icing on the cake..

Hey I'm not complaining...the WA76 is a great buy...but these are built to a price point, correct? BTW - these are going to be tube EQ's. I think just about everything is built to a price point. But there are different ways to reach it. Some (most) companies seem to identify the minimum quality and cost required to meet the selling price point and maximize profits. Some (few) companies want to identify the maximum quality and cost attainable while still meeting the selling price point and realizing sufficient profits to be able to keep going. Obviously I can't speak for Bryce, but it seems to me that he uses a variation of the second approach. He plans and builds the very best product he can, within reason, and then determines the selling price point to be sufficient for him to keep going. I think some of the other manufacturers that frequent this board have a similar approach. And it's really the only approach that allows for breakthrough price/performance ratios. The WA12 and TB12 didn't lower the price point of any other pre's that I'm aware of. The WA76 didn't lower the price of any 1176's or clones that I'm aware of. And this EQ will probably have a similar non-impact on other companies' prices. Fortunately for other companies, many people assume that selling price correlates with quality much more than it really does. There are lots of exceptions to "you get what you pay for", and Warm Audio is one of them.

Design Build Philosophy
hmm I don't know any specifics but Bryce actually emailed me a while back and shared some of his thinking about this and he was certainly not trying to build them on the cheap
quite the opposite he was trying to figure out how to achieve as much of the pultec mojo as possible and still have a reasonable price
from the get go he was committed to custom high quality cinemag transformers and good quality tubes, etc..
I have kind of decided I will be buying at least one warm product probably annually for a while.

Sorry for the confusion, the final audio files I was hoping would be uploaded by tomorrow so yes the folder is empty right now. I will update here when ready. The bad news is that our tech who is the only other guy who works on the Clipalator files now has the flu so it might put us back a few days.
In the meantime I can confirm that holy crap, the Warm hangs right in there with the expensive stuff.
More soon.
