Wa50A? WaTec? You have some info? I emailed Bryce a couple months ago and asked what they were working on next. Pretty much did it out of curiosity and mostly to suggest an LA3a (I've always wanted one). He wrote back saying he won't give the details but they're working on an EQ. I was surprised to get an answer at all, Bryce is a good guy! Sounds like a Wa-Tec is coming. Pic of tubes on the Warm Facebook. $679, shipping in March.

Wasn't expecting this, thought it'd be API style solely because I wouldn't thing a Pultec style EQ couldn't be built at this kind of price point. Needless to say, based on my experience with the WA12 and WA76, I'm pretty damn excited

In the comments on FB people started guessing. 4 minutes after the guessing started, Warm says that someone already guessed it. The guesses at that point were Pultec, LA-2A, and Mastering EQ. He later goes on to say is not an LA-2A. Has to be a Pultec.

Assuming that Bryce is working on a Pultec EQ I wonder how he will deal with the transformer. It'd be pretty tough to find a transformer that could compete with Peerless transformers that were used in the original units

i don't think that an (theoretical) insurmountable problem for Bryce ,our industrious friend !!

It'd be pretty tough to find a transformer that could compete with Peerless transformers that were used in the original units CineMag transformers. I imagine that it won't be the full 100% magic, but it'll probably be a pretty nice Pultec for short change. No substitute for the real deal, but about half the price of the other clone contenders.

Unless the tec stands for Sontec? Wa-Tec was my name for it, not theirs. I can't imagine a Sontec for that price. The switches alone probably cost that.

Hey all. I'm really pumped to see the excitement for the new product, thanks for all the support. I received more help on this new product than I've received on any other. It was no easy feat to maintain the layout/design of the original unit without compromising sonic integrity, but I knew something could be done to bring the price down because they are somewhat simple (in theory). I had a seasoned electrical (pro audio) engineer spend about 2 weeks with the unit after it was completed (as well as a bit of time before-hand with the schematic) to offer some engineering insight. The original transformers in the classic design are expensive for 2 reasons, 1. they are huge and use a lot of alloy. 2 - if you buy originals they are very rare so they are expensive simply because they are rare. The CineMag's in this new unit are larger than the transformers in my other units, but not "massive" per se. The input transformer has to be of decent size to not distort when a loud input signal hit it, and to not lose low end. The output transformer has a tertiary winding that that receive 250v from the power supply and adds to the character. The original had this as well. Oh yea, and the inductor is made by CineMag too ) David Geren at CineMag has as much to do with the success of with Warm Audio as anything else since he is so aggressively pricing his components to meet the demand. He also sees the big picture that selling more units is a great thing. The reason for using Tung Sol tubes instead of chinese is 1. they sound much better of course... but also in large quantities the tubes weren't that much more expensive. A lot of botique brands use chinese tubes with the belief that buyers will fit the unit with their own choice. I knew many WA users are not super technical and want the unit to sound "A grade" out of the box, so I decided to keep things as simple as possible and fit them with Tung Sol. Slightly cheaper Russian tubes like Electro Harmonix aren't bad but in quantity were barely cheaper than the super nice Tung Sol's. I'm holding off until I have a nice photo of the unit to make an official announcement. Hopefully it will be soon. The prototype faceplate is the wrong color and has that "worked-on" beat up look so am waiting for a new faceplate to be made. Hope to have it shortly. PS - I added some "___ points" to the controls... still have all the original... but a few extra, some in the sexy low mid area.

Thx Bryce; bet we are all saving our pennies now ! how flat was it down to 20 cycles ? It's hard to get tube gear to cooperate at the very low frequencies but the unit is flat from 20hz all the way to 50khz... killer response. Running a mix through them feels like I'm adding a vinyl record affect... but not a muddy oober colored, just a nice gloss over the top.

You can hear the tubes (even in bypass mode, since the signal still runs through the tubes in bypass mode), they are nicely detailed, but still very smooth, and not muddy or lacking in the low end...

Hey Bryce - great of you to stop by! Is this new piece of gear 1 or 2 channels? If it's mono will they be linkable?

Hey Bryce - great of you to stop by! Is this new piece of gear 1 or 2 channels? If it's mono will they be linkable? Mono. The nature of the circuit doesn't allow for easy link-ability but you could use 2 of course, and match settings.
