Just tried another cable. Same problem.
On another note. This might be a stupid question, but im no tech. Are these specifically wired for the U.S? Or is just a different power transformer?
I was just going to get a step down transformer, but when I bought new cables the tech specialist at the pro audio store said that its easier to just put a 240v transformer on. So he changed it. Not sure if this can also cause it?
Or something is faulty in the unit.

That is suspicious, though I haven't a clue. Good luck though.

Either way, sometimes word clocks go bad, i had one that whined and popped into an unstable mode, that would cause freeze ups and mayhem, and then pop back, and act hunky dory? Had it fixed. The good news is, i'd bet dollars to dimes that ross martin would rectify the problem immediately, and should send you an expedited replacement as soon as they see return shipping conformation, pass each other in flight stlyle, at least they should if you explain your need, and that you're actively blogging about your predicament on the worlds number 1 pro audio gear forum...uh..hummm.

Yup in Aussie. This one was wired 110v. Bought it from a guy in the U.S of GS classifieds. The guy said it was almost brand new. Said he couldnt slave it to his bla clock and thats why he is letting it go.
The Tech at the at the local pro audio said i dont need a stepdowns transformer, it will be easier to just change the transformer to a 16vac , 240v one. Not sure if it can be a power problem.
Did email Ross.
Not sure if I should get a tech to look at it locally, or maybe send it back to Ross.
The local tech knows his stuff, but he is going away and can only look at it in 3weeks time

Sorted. That extra clock is just for clocking more than one RM units. Going away tomorrow, but had a quick listen to the RM ADC. Sound great. Big step up from the MR816's A/D. Didnt get to do any tracking. Just listened on a mix im working on. This thing does sound amazing. Thanks for the recommendations is it just me, or is this the problem? You say that you have a mix that you're listening to on the ADC. You would need a DAC to listen back with. ADC is analog to digital to get your sounds into the box. DAC converts the signal back from digital to analog so you can listen back.

Hi lolo, an idea just to see by chance, if it is the internal clock of the AD that is freaking out - try to clock the AD to the external clock you get with the RM. I.e. connect the MCLK out of the ext. clock to the MCLK in of the AD. See if this changes something.
Generally the tech was right, you can replace the transformer to get the same voltage you could get from a stepdown before the original transformer box. But there is a slight "but".... The RM transformer is known to work, it is up to specs and selected for the task. You can not say for sure about the replacement transformer if you did not get the one from RM, that is also known to work... Even if a transformer is spec'd the same output voltage on paper...it can be more or less... Normally this does/should not make a change if there is enough safety margins upwards, but not too much because of possible heat problems in the regulators.
But, and there is always a but... If the output voltage of the transformer is too low for whatever reason, and the regulators in the AD box are undervolted, which normally is the case if the incoming voltages are lower than the regulator voltage +3 Volt minimum, the regulator becomes unstable...in case of the RM AD this would mean problems in the analog parts of the circuit, i.e. e.g. the input buffers. Since the AD should not have much power demand, and you said the tech knows his stuff, i do not assume, that the unit is underpowered (i.e. power rating of the transformer too low...).
Another scenario that comes to my mind, and that has nothing to do per se with the transformer but still with PSU, and that might explain why the unit worked for an amount of time, would be a blown or, more likely unstable low voltage regulator (otherwise i guess you would probably hear nothing not even burst?), these regulate the ~16V(!?!) input voltage down to 5V respectively 3.3V, that are used for digital parts of the circuit. These may get warmer/hotter, because they have a larger downregulation to do (~maybe 10-13V difference from incoming voltage).
WHAT MIGHT GET YOU A GOOD STEP FURTHER in this case would be - open the AD box. Look into it. See if parts have come loose and moved where they shouldn't. IN FACT it is possible, that heatsinks that normally sit correctly on parts, that heat up, moved due to transport, or a part came off a point that is used as a heatsink at the case. This happens quite often at transports, had these sort of things with quite some technics stuff, btw! Then, a part may function ok for a while, but then fails or gets damaged/unstable due to heat. Easiest way to find out these kind of problems, which are sometimes obvious for a tech at a glance, is to open the box and look into it.
If you do not even have a clue, what i am talking about, JUST TAKE PICTURES/PHOTOS of inside of the box, and we DIY/techie guys will have a serious look at it and see if we can identify a problem and help you to probably speed up resolving the issues and discuss options what can be done about it. (Well, we do/did this kind of stuff at GDIY all the time...and i guess RM would most probably do the same anyway.;-))
I read that in some earlier boxes of RM, things like this could happen. He in the meantime fixed possible transport issues with hot glue fixing and sorted this out as much as possible....
Best regards, Martin (btw, i guess it would be totally ok to post these kind of pics, nobody wants to reverse engineer these, it's not rocket science anyway, we do not watch the copper side of the pcbs and his units are just the price of parts and work anyway at his price point!)

Thanks for taking the time to reply and the detailed response Martin. left the ADC at the techie to have a look. if he cant find anything I'll def post some pics. Looked into postage today. And it will set me back at least $150 if I would want to send the unit to Ross and back to Aus. Hopefully it can be solved here. Thanks again. Worst part is I feel like i dont want to mix without it now after I heard it. Hahahaha now i'm curious about his Dac's too. After the baby perhaps. Cheers Laurence

Well, mine is fine really. :-D My brother instantly ordered another one after hearing it. This one is still on the order list and waits to be built.... But, after listening to the first one for a while, we did not want to wait for it and got another one when it was at the ON SALE page. At this pricing you can not have "too many" of them. The 2 we already got are those with standard LME opamps and sound awesome. No-brainer, not only at this price point... Still love them.

Hey lolo, to be clear on your chain, your coming off your analog console stereo 2 into ? and ? and monitoring off of____ with you new Neumann monitors. Hi Tony, Prob should've explained better earlier. no console, mixing hybrid. currently mixing through vp28's on the mixbus. Using the DAC of the Mr816, and the ADC of the RM back in. Monitoring through Dangerous music source. Going spdif out to Dangerous for monitoring. spdif in for RM. Everything was working perfectly for about 40min's. Sorry to derail this thread a bit with my probs fellas. appreciate the help Laurence

Hi Tony. Still at the tech. Chases him up yesterday. Will hopefully get back to me today. I'm actually a bit pissed of with the tech. He is more complaining about how shit the build is on the unit than trying to find the problem.
Think I might need to send it to Ross himself.
And Gosh I need it

hi lolo, been wondering if you got your issue resolved? I know this has been a drag for you, but seeing it play out will be helpful to others who are interested, and wether they should buy the ross stuff? what i'm saying is, i hope it's fixed, and thanx for keeping us up to date on your issues with it. Hi Tony, got it back a couple of days ago. The Techie couldn't fix it. Sending it back to Ross on Monday. He said he will have a look at it. Real bummer.

I JUST got mine back b/c I lent mine to a friend who had to send his back to Ross for repair. FYI, when I ordered mine, Ross said 5 weeks but actually it took 7. Small company and I think he's pretty slammed.

I just wish he sent email updates or had a Service Queue on his website like this guy that does CRT monitor repair www.arcadecup.com/I can't link directly to the page , but at the top click on "Service Queue" and you'll see what Ross should do .

Just a update Fellas. Ross fixed my ADC and it will be arriving hopefully later this week.
He found a pin that was not making a good connection. He was really helpful. Cant wait to get this bad boy back.
