For me i could clearly hear a improvement over the MR816 A/D. Steal at the price point

So I noticed that my RMPCM4222 meters show 3-6dB hotter signal than they actually pass via dig cable to my Avid Omni. Anyone notice that on theirs?

Hm, interesting. I guess there is no official information about, what is actually shown on the led's...and my second guess is, this is showing the analog side of things. Manufacturers often give a recommendation about the optimum level for transparent recording, where the tradeoff is best between analog and digital degradation, the sweet spot. An educated guess would be this has to do with the calibration of the meters. So, metering in your DAW is different. Third educated guess - you may be able to calibrate the metering by yourself. I guess, the only guy who can bring light into this is Ross Martin himself. Time for a mail. He is a very sincere engineer and gear designer, i would bet he gives an explanation...
Best regards, Martin

I pulled the trigger on the RM AD and DA. Hopefully I will get it in a reasonable time and that they sound great. If they are as good or better then the sig modded 002 I have been using I will be very happy.

BTW, a friend of mine who also has the Rm PCM4222 ADC confirmed his metering is also pretty off...so not just my unit.

Ross replied with good news, "you can adjust the vu meters with the white trim pots located on the vu meter board. ".

Does anyone have the Ross Martin PCM4222 A/D Converter ? Did you have to wait a long time for him to build it ? rossmartinaudio.com/ Ross emailed me to say he has a few DAC's built and ready to go. He has some DAC's with ADA 4898-1 opamps and some 8 channel jobs too. No wait.

HeyJim
Could you help calibrate my understanding of this thread ?
Context: i have a bla modded apollo, burl b2 and a dbox
Some consider the apollo DA its weak link. I understand RM makes a very good and well priced DA.
I like monitoring through the dbox: certainly better than the straight apollo. I can control monitor level from the apollo so could the RM DA replace my DBox and provide DA without an additional conversion ?
