I don’t have any connection with UA and haven’t gotten any discounts… Now that that’s out of the way…the fact that I just got these for $30 apiece is just…freaking awesome and pretty damn fair.

I bet everyone, thinks the tube amp sounds better, but the plugs are very good convenient tools, and during current sale , cheaper then retubing an amp: once. As Quint says though, I like real knobs: there’s a dream for sale locally used, but asking price is over $400, bought all 3 plugs for like $125 cdn. Yes, the UA amp sims are OK. $125 sounds like a good price until you test what is currently available. They are worse than Tonex. I don't think that's debatable. Tonex is free... The plugins have considerably worse speaker cab sims than what Universal Audio released almost 10 years ago with OX...

Tone isn’t really free as unless, I didn’t get the same demo but don’t recall a good fender, Vox and Marshall options
I guess we all hear what we want to hear. I’m very happy with the ua amp sims.

Better talk to your recording spiritual evangelist, but skip the lemonade.

Coincidentally, I just spent about an hour and a half today comparing these to Tonex today…I think the Amalgam captures are by far the best out there…and man, I couldn’t disagree with your assessment more. Some of the Amalgam ones are better than others…there’s a Matchless Laurel Canyon that’s really good. I’ll use that for sure. But man, I really hear a sameness to these. And I really thought they were much more digital sounding. Tons of top end info. The new effects were cool in Tonex… Also played around with different for the UA stuff - Ownhammer and York. Don’t know if they were better - they were definitely different.
