Like Quint, got the email yesterday for the same offer. I couldn't come up with 10 much less 20 that I want at this point and give UA another $500. The "You are the backbone" wording is ridiculous though. I started buying for UAD-1, went through some Apollos and now only use Satellites but have put thousands into their stuff. Definitely understand the bitterness in this thread. Kids these days should have to experience the wait for the Christmas UA sales! If you go on the UAD forum though, the fan boys are talking about how this is the greatest deal ever. And Drew is more than fine with basking in the afterglow of such praise, all the while ignoring or dismissing the very sort of complaints being registered right here in this thread. I've reached the point where I'm just mostly going to stop going to that forum. It's beyond infuriating. The problem is that, with the customer service being in the dumpster these days, I feel compelled to go over there if I have any sort of questions or need help with a tech issue, because what choice do I have, if I want to talk to a human today instead of two weeks from now. Three years ago, I would have laughed if someone told me that I would be considering dumping all of my UA gear/plugins. But here we are. I doubt I will, because the Luna thing is still pretty compelling, and I'm kind of invested in that setup now. But boy do I have to hold my nose sometimes...

Is UA going to give AVID a run for their money as the most hated audio software/hardware company? LOL I know nothing about UA as I have none of their products - and likely will not in the future - but they are sure coming off like AVID mk2 in this thread.....

I ditched the UA forum a couple of months back when Drew not for the first time said something completely dismissive and patronizing about my completely legitimate concern. i did take personal offence, as I am one of those, who made a big contribution there, long before Drew ever showed up. UA and the forum aren’t what they used to be.
a keen observer of the ua forum would note that most (all?) the mods have quietly folded their tents and slipped away under the cover of night: wonder why ?

Yeah, they are moving in that direction. IMO, AVID is still worse, but, from what I understand, UA hired some people from AVID a while back, so who knows where that may lead in the future, or to what degree those hires have already contributed to the problems being discussed in this thread.

This apparent shift has occurred after the avid peeps were hired, but I understand Gannon, who provided excellent customer service, left UA, like 3 year’s ago.

Yeah, I've wondered about that. Matt and Dan are still around, but they seem very inactive and un-moddy. One can speculate.... It always seemed a little out of the ordinary to me for the official forum of a company to not be owned by said company. Which was one thing when UA was the smaller company it used to be. But now, with UA being so much more corporate, it does make me wonder about such things. Has the arrangement between Matt and UA changed?

In my recent experiences of Softube, I'd say there not going to be far behind either. These companies are like some musicians and actors I know, when they "made it" they forgot where they came from and who helped them get there!

It motivates me to only buy plugs at rock bottom prices and or, rethink plugs and move back towards hardware.
If you’ve got a good front end:mikes/pres/comp, and good conversion, with a 2 bus comp, a few more comps for bus/ aux, and maybe a nice eq, I don’t need much else .
I’m mostly just tracking myself, so not in a pro situation.

When a major pro audio company like UAD lets their customer service deteriorate to the point of being useless, clearly something's wrong. People do that when they're moving on from something and don't want to spend more money or time fixing it. I haven't seen anything confirming it, but this is what all companies seem to do when these private equity firms buy them and then just suck the cash out of them. It's all about reaping profits for the (private) stockholders, who need (want?) to add a couple more billion to their portfolios. Layoffs, budget cuts (especially in development and customer service), until they are only found in the history books (or I guess Wikipedia as it is now...).

Softube has never really focused that much on pros outside of the Weiss bundle, Paul Wolff plugs, and some of the fx which are super underrated. They've always been mostly an amp sim company and then a lot of emulation plugs to stack up and take the edge off. Like UAD junior for VSTi musicians or U-he for guitarists. They're not Sound Radix or CEDAR but don't seem to want to sell out in a market that's bottoming out yet.

Why did they poo poo the post industry for Luna? Sound fx guys are the people buying all of these weirdo new plugs and emulations that will eff up a normal recorded piece of audio. Why didn't they port their Precision plugs to native as stock plugs for Luna to give it the best ones of any DAW and then sell a license for 100 bucks with the ability to use the Apollos for low latency monitor mixes? That's what AVID did with their new HDX hybrid engine and UAD makes much better stuff than what comes with Pro Tools.

But there are a lot of things that UA does these days, that are head scratchers for sure. I think they will ultimately port the whole precision line to native. It'll just be some of the last ones that they do.

It sounds great on a guitars especially. I've got it on acoustic for a mix I sent out yesterday.

By the way, I like the UA neve emulations and I hope the Helios is up there with that.
