I see they even sent you a cheap toob too Tim ;-) Paul this a long thread that you also contributed to and discusses tubes that all new manufacturers are using. As I stated earlier (maybe you read) This tube sounds terrific and better than some GE 5 stars I have run across. I am not concerned with what the tube costs. It is exactly the tube FLEA claims is in the mic. I own plenty of GE 5 stars that I could replace it with but there is no need.

Recorded with this gem again today and love it. I need a shock mount though and a new cable but Flea don't make a connector, other than the original swivel, that fit on the mic side of the cable, so any tips on how to get a non swivel connector? I have been able to find a few of these NOS tuchel connectors on Reverb from time to time but really you could continue using the connector with a shock mount the same as most people do with U47s
Your current female insert would fit these housings.
Thanks for the tip Tim! Felt a bit bulky/heavy having that mount, but I'll do as you suggest

And BTW..after recording a couple of vocalists and also double bass, I'd like to report that to my soon 59 year old ears your capsule, at least in this mic, does NOT sound thin :-)

Just replaced the stock EH tube for a selected/tested NOS GE tube from Christian Whitmore and was surprised that, except for more output, I could hardly hear any difference. Mentioned this for Ivan@Flea and he said that the EH tubes are carefully measured/selected and that this was exactly their experience too, with NOS 6072s. Though this mic imo is generally a bit on the bright side for jazz vocalists I really love it.

There’s a good shoot out on the purple site with C12 based mics on the 251 thread which is very telling. The ac701 original sounds so good. The NLP version sounded great too and it’s a bargain.

As Paul noted above, the build quality seems very high and then well priced.

Interesting that the two tubes impart such different sounds , both fine just different, best to have both tubes, so you could roll for application.

It's still very early days yet, I bought one and have had it for just a couple of weeks. As kcatthedog indicated you can email David and get the details on pricing and shipping. There was no distributor for the US so I purchased one directly from him.
He's very responsive and informative. Very smooth purchase process, kept me updated on timing and the shipping and the way over here was lightning quick. Easy PayPal payment.
I've no other ELAM to compare it to, but it sounds exactly like what I was hoping for. I choose the European capsule, which is supposed to be a bit darker. I was a tad worried about that being too dark but it's very well balanced with high freq crispiness and no boomy or boxiness.Christian's YT demo was spot on for the 6072 tube, very accurate to what I perceive with it in hand.
It perfectly fills the gap in my mic selection I was hoping to fill. It's a bit complex to work with so far, I'm learning how it compresses and saturates at high SPL for vocals (just belting a bit). Can't wait to try some instruments. Very articulate.

The Euro capsule is a Haun like an old Bock. The U.S. which is in the new shootout by Karloff is a Josephson I believe and it sounds pretty amazing in Boris’ shootout.

If the Josephson capsule is the same as in his C716 - then it is amazing.

There’s a good shoot out on the purple site with C12 based mics on the 251 thread which is very telling. The ac701 original sounds so good. The NLP version sounded great too and it’s a bargain. This is very funny, I noticed Karloff also liked the non export 251. I have had many 251s in my shop with AC701s and 6072s in them sometime simultaneously or one right after the other. In a real world setting the AC701 version is so boring and neutral compared to the export model.
In listenig to Karoloff's files I was struck by the breath and proximity artifacts and it made me want to see a photo of this session. I believe that the placement of the mics had an effect on how they were percieved.
poppaflavor could you post a slightly larger photo? I can't make out any details

I don’t read every thread… Yep I agree you dont get the chance to keep up with threads you are interested in. It does take some time to catch up with certain ones. The good thing about RGO compared to other places is that the catch up comments - most of them are definitely worth reading. I had a Josephson Capsule in my BSA 251. I did not find it bright in amy way so that other NLP european 251 capsule that is dark must be pretty noticeably dark. And although I think I need to maybe get one of these, I have to remind myself that after selling the Bocks, getting an Upton and 2 x OPR 251's I need to be satisifed with what I have and just get on with it. The 6072 woud be the one to get.

I haven't owned or used a 251 mic with Ac701 but I'd imagine I would prefer the Non E version over the Export if we're talking original 251s. If I would compare a u67 and m269 which I know very well the M269 is more transparent but still is magic and doesn't have any of the weird frequencies of the U67, a superior mic objectively. Of course subjectively you might prefer one or the other. Back to the 251, it will never go into practice, only speculation on my part since an original is just way above my League pricewise

The 269 has other differences in the circuit from the U67 besides the tube.
