Based on my experiences on the Purple site it’s the Warm warriors I dislike more than the sound. In fact some sound surprisingly good. They have the Neolithic tribalism of Behringer customers. I can’t stand it.

In the Lower End, Oktava and 3U-er's tend to be very nice.
Upper End... The Coil/Locomotive/Silver Bullet/Audioscape crew gravitate towards coolness too. Chrus

I had a pair of 666's for many years. Also RE15 and RE16. Sold off when their values took off.
IMHO I actually sound better, on my 635a and 767a.* Thanks though. Chris *It amuses my warped sense of humor to do such things, but I'll refrain from EV posting here. Please pass the Grey Poupon!

How about Heiserman? I’d love to hear a good comparison with the Flea. Some close proximity softer singing would also be cool. ^^^YES!!!! My preference would be to hear a solid professional female session singer who can do several vocal styles better than well enough and knows how to work in front of a mic, has nice tone whether in chest or head voice.
More Nina less Celine-ish and right up on that grill! If in a adequate room, in both omni and cardioid would be very informative to me.
I guess me personally I just want to know. I had to make 251 purchase decisions recently and
mostly had to factor in what was available to me or could be had in a very timely manner. Though I'm very happy with my decisions, I still want to know and may still pursue the FleA. Admittedly, the Heiserman is much less interesting to me,
I have no logical explanation for this. I have this same feeling towards the Upton and I can't shake it. It's completely
emotion based I'm certain, why is another question- but I trust my intuition, I have to.
Care to share which 251 you bought and why?

Care to share which 251 you bought and why? Hi Tony, Sure... I bought 3 different "251" style microphones!
1. Telefunken TF51 2. GA 251MKII 3 ADK Custom 251 T-FET
I'm really happy about my decision to play the field instead of all in for 1 mic And I spent under half of the 1:1 replica I would have purchased thanks to my distributor/dealer friend of 20 years selling me 2 of these at cost and the ADK I got on sale. Part of what swayed my decision to buy in this manner was availability and the interaction I had with each builder. I didn't have a huge window to wait around due to my recording schedule, the FleA was not yet announced/available [to me]
Bo at GA Premier and Miles/Kevin at ADK were very communicative and
very attentive to my questions and shared above and beyond what I expected. On the human side of it all, both experiences were reminiscent of my very positive experiences with Ivan at FleA. I was treated well, charged fairly and made acquaintance with some like minded people who made it easy to respect them as people and admire their products for what they are. None of these 3 sound anything alike, yet all share certain elements of a sound that kind of cover me for duties I would want a 251/250 style mic for.
I have a rather ambitious project that I will travel across regional parts of Australia visiting regional and fairly remote communities to record choirs.
I made the decision to use FET's to recreate my preferred choral M-S setup instead of dragging tube mics through the bush. Any who have explored outback 'Straya will tell you how rough a journey it can be.
That is where the Cremona came to my attention and I'm really really happy with the sound of the mic
in omni.
My F8 will be the TLM 67 or a multi pattern Beesneez 87i.
The GA251 (omni) and the TF51(F8) will be my mics for a Sydney and Melbourne sessions with my good friend Adrian who is one helluva talented producer/engineer, really happy to finally find a good reason to work together, so I'm really stoked about that.
My reasoning behind hiring Adrian was that I know I'm no slouch at producing and recording, but
I think he's extraordinary and I always want people I think are more talented than myself around me. It both simplifies things for me and adds a degree of tension I think is really important to have.
Possibly a Gold Coast session but that would be with another producer friend and logistics might make a GC session very difficult and this is mostly about the regional/remote choirs/gang vocals.
The GA and the TF pair very well in M-S, perhaps unsurprisingly.
It's early planning stages and we have until September to reconcile and get the track completed and submitted for the
big dollar marketing visuals that will tell people about here about the project. The video stuff has 6 times the budget we have available to use..figures huh?!! So that is the backstory to help understand a few of the decisions I had to make kind of on the spot if I was going to have tools to work with.
Is this all too much information? I always feel obliged to explain my decisions to use FET's for any type vocal work, which is absurd really. I also had a fixed threshold to spend and would not be facilitating builder prices over the interests of my project. Having 3 mics and saving money and time worked out very very well for me and for our budget! Adding the BU87i will have to be out of my own pocket and it's mainly because I want the TLM67 to be the alternate mic rather than primary F8 mic. I think the way Ben tunes his capsules will suit this F8 role really well. Definitely not a typical job. Must travel light and securely!

The GA251 is a tube mic, no? It's on my radar, thinking maybe later in the year. GAH, I want sooooo many mics. Yea, the GA251 is indeed a tube mic.
I was working in Sydney recently on a really big session at 301 and after using their Telefunken 250 (in omni), I had to have one of my own or something really close. I don't have quite the same criteria as a studio like 301, and the GA251 ticked a lot of boxes for me, enough to commit.
It's a wonderful sounding well built beautiful microphone built by an equally fantastic human.
I only have to impress me really. My friend suggested looking at ADK custom shop for the project and that's how the Cremona came into my view. I think it's a very competent microphone with a well tuned capsule and very rugged yet attractive build quality. The TF51 and GA251 presented me with a bit of a conundrum that was made really easy for me to decide. After hearing both side by side and with a Telefunken and a Upton, I didn't want to have to pick between the TF51 or the GA251, so I picked both.
Very different microphones but as soon as I heard each one, I could hear myself using it right away. Neither are the TFunk but neither is the Upton ftm. I immediately did not want the Upton at all if I'm honest and I felt that Bo's GA251 was very much in the same realm as the Funk, different slightly but generally and overall definitely playing on the same pitch. With the TF51 and the GA251, I can't for the life of me imagine ever selling either. I don't really have that much time to contemplate the minutia, nor do I have the disposable income to indulge something that could only distract me from my day to day functionality.
I hear the differences, they just don't mean SFA to me in practical applicable terms.
Be interested to know which of the 3 mics I would recommend after 6 months of consistent use.

Apparently someone on GS tried the Heiserman and FLEA and wrote this but there are no files or more clarification:
I don't entirely understand the reporting here. I believe I'm to understand the FleA sounds "fuller and more forward" than the H251.
But I haven't understood what the author has meant since reading " The H251 sounds more delicate".
The H251 makes his voice sound more delicate or the microphone sounds more delicate than the FleA on "his voice" [to him] or the H251 sounds like a more delicate (fragile/less revealing?) microphone than the FleA?
If that is the case, why not take the surest path forward and just buy the FleA?

Do Flea sell just the bodies? Not currently. No one is selling complete 251 bodies right now. How many of these different 251's are compatible with a single body type? They all look fairly different to me. Wouldn't the guts of certain brands just not fit into the body's of others? (I may have misappropriated an apostrophe above)
The colour of the FleA is really original. Very classy aesthetic and so very FleA. I just love what they do, and who they have been to me.

I wish there were som authentic body kits like the TFunk. USA etc. that we can customise to our hearts delight. David Fehrer makes my favourite sounding 251 which is like a Bock but smoother. I would like a custom version of his mic with different metalwork.

An artist or even an autobody worker should be able to make that happen, if we're just talking about the body. Hell, if's it's just a color thing, you should be able to customize it. Well it isn't that simple if you want to replicate all the parts. A majority of the internal parts are crystal clear acrylic. Injection moulding acrylic and ending up with completely clear, bubble free parts is a pita. I know all these manufactrers have struggled with this to varying degrees of success. Just the switch assembly is a nightmare to put together and there are so many fidgety mechanical parts like the metal struts that hold the bottom threaded collar onto the component board by just pressure and spring leafs.
