Looked at the price of the Wurlitzer 200a and the Fender Rhodes 73 today..... *wakes from faint* Oh hey, what were we talking about? Yeah. These prices are just absolutely insane. I'll never get to replace my old Wurly now. Update: I bought a 200a locally that needs some work (new amp, pretty much de rigueur) for $800!! I may have used my last bit of amazing gear deal karma. What a lovely instrument.

Ebay and Reverb are full of double priced AML preamps. The AML site is hard to find and it's not obvious you can get them pre-built for very little more.

Well at least these flippers are giving Colin some well deserved buisness. Maybe we need to buy some AML and undercut them😎. A number of years ago I was selling some stuff because I needed the funds and got a couple of angry emails because I was under cutting some big time flippers, had to explain free market policy and the fact that I needed to move the stuff quickly. CC’ed Reverb who basically told the flippers “sucks to be you” ironically one than tried to low ball me and eventually bought at asking price. He than had it it listed for over a year.

I guess it is quite a testament to AML's quality that people would pay double and not be bothered. Ugh, the flippers... in theory I don't begrudge anyone on how they choose to make a living in music/audio as it's difficult but there's been a few times I've gone to grab something and noticed it's from one of the more infamous flippers so removed it from my cart and went elsewhere. Same as selling, if I'm going to get lowballed I'll let it go to a buddy or a local kid who will treasure it and actually use the gear to make music. No worse feeling than getting hammered down to then see them list it for double (tho similar to Eric the only time I let this happen I saw he had it listed for well over a year, seriously doubt he sold it at his asking).

I happily sold some stuff to some guys here at a very fair price to us all. I would have kept it before listing it on the bay or Reverb. It’s getting crazy out there.

Lol…I wonder if y’all would have better luck with the Zoomers if you had opt-out style text messaging. Good idea!

Well now that I've made fun of him, In the 10k guys defense, his does have the input AND output transformers. As much as I love it though, I'm not sure that extra transformer is worth 7-8k 🤣

Murphy says the 10k unit needs repairs and the 2k3 unit is perfect Nah the 10k unit is probably pictures off the net, it will take forever to ship because the guy needs to buy the 2.3K unit first! Because that never happens even pre reverb.

Now that sounds like a solid business plan. I have seen a number of guys do it, if it’s rare always ask for a pick of the serial number! In our audio a common story is “ it was pulled from a broadcaster, school or church “ total bullshit all three like to keep track of inventory, even if it’s sitting in a closet or basement it either has a serial # or inventory tag.

I was looking an FMR RNC, which you can buy new for $185 (and it's in stock everywhere), and in Reverb.com you can't find them for less than $250 used.
I don't understand.

I have said this many times, and this period of insanity is no different, it’s not the price you ask but, the price it sells for. Prime example there is a Yamaha DM1000 that is priced approx. $150 over what the last couple have sold for, shipped, it needs a couple of new faders, if I were to make an offer I would direct the seller to the Sold listing I would off what the last one in similar condition sold for. Seller has duty to sell at that price, but if they want to move it they will realize the offer is reasonable.

Even then, it's just plain STUPID! With prices as insane as they are and the fact that recording gear associated with an artist taking on the memorabilia market I’m kicking my self for not grabbing 2 pieces. 1. Butch Vigs / Smarts original TAC Scorpion that the first Nirvana Demos were tracked on. 2. The original Cheap Trick Hill live board, yes it was a total piece of crap strangest EQ ever but in 92 I could have had it for $200. On either of these I could have had them and documentation to prove providence.

I used to work on one of those a lot back in the late 90s / early 00s. The one I had access to sounded like ass.

So did this one, I think Wendy who did the Smart documentary might have ended up with it. I know the Wi state historical Society ended up with one of the tape Machines, not sure if it was the Studer or the old Otari.

So in the case of the Nirvana stuff, it was the contrapositive of "garbage in, garbage out": it was more like "gold in, gold out" regardless of capturing medium.

Could you see it sitting behind glass in a Hard Rock Casino Hotel? I dunno.. I bid on a THD Univalve amp belonging to Stephen St. Croix because I wanted something of his. I lost the auction.

Stuff that's above market price doesn't sell.
A Retro STA Level is 3K, there's been one on Reverb for 8 months at 2.4K .... nobody is buying.
I got my Retro STA Level second hand for 1750 - that's a price it'll actually move at.
People may ask, but getting is a whole different story.
