I have built four of Dany's mics; a pair of 67s, an 87, and a 47 fet. The 67s with Beesneez capsules, the others with Neumann capsules. All of them with AMI transformers. I've been very pleased with all of them.

Not Paul, but if your looking at how close you can get to a 251 without the expense Talk to Ben, he is very straightforward about this kind of stuff and might have a solution that most of us wouldn’t even consider. We just built the most incredible sounding 251’s with Ben’s capsules for about $800 each. Including GE 5* tubes. Group DIY have very simple instructions. Well, I'm intrigued!

$800 EACH? That's it? If you're only 1/2 lying that's 90% off. Wicked deal.

$800 EACH? That's it? If you're only 1/2 lying that's 90% off. Wicked deal. Capsules from Beesneez $425 each, GE NOS 5* $100 for both. BOM ingredients $200 for both, bodies $50 each from Ali Express and the T Bone PSU $70 each, Sommer cable and Neutriks $80 and Moby T/14 xformer $100. So with shipping it’s more or less $900 each. So I lied a little. Which for a killer sounding 251 is not bad at all. Took a while to get it all to fit but it’s nice and snug and feels solid and pretty pro. Acetone took any nasty writing off the Thomann retro psu so they look vintage. I maintain Ben’s capsule’s sound authentically early 60’s so all in all they sound better to me than all the expensive clones I’ve heard including my Bocks.

How is the new yoke mount design for the M49V? I believe it was redesigned to handle rumble better than the old design and was curious if anyone could comment on it. I've been having some issues with my FleAs in my new space. I don't really want to drop $500 on a Neumann yoke mount, but I'm curious if the new one would solve the issue. My old studio had a slab floor with carpeting. The new one has a wood based subfloor with carpeting. Every time I move the mic rumbles. SMH. Only happens with my FleA in its yoke mount. I grabbed a Cloud U1 mount, which works great as far as the rumble. It fits ok. The jewel on the front and FleA logo make it so it can't face the front on the mount, and has to be a little off center, but it's working for now. http://instagram.com/p/C4HJHa2PMQi

I find it very sturdy. Had no idea it'd cost $500. but, then again, makes sense - being Neumann - & what I paid for the mic.

I like the mounts a lot. Much better than the dumb screw to the base ones or even the new U67 mounts.

AMI sells this shock mount for M49's. It looks the same, and likely is the same as the one I got from Studio 939 which also included the M49 style body. It works great, not sure if it would interfere with the jewel. www.tab-funkenwerk.org/product/m49sm-spider-shock-mount/

What is the actual mm mic-size of that AMI mount?

What is the actual mm mic-size of that AMI mount? I just measured mine, which again, I got from Studio 939, not AMI, and it is 3 inches or 76mm diameter. I am purely guessing that the Studio 939 and AMI are the same. They look exactly the same, and it seems like usually these kinds of things are made in the same factory but sold by a few different re-sellers. Someone could probably email AMI and get an answer on the size of theirs. Rumble is not as much of an issue in my studio with tile over concrete floors, so I usually use a Red brand yoke mount, which seems to now be discontinued. Peluso is now selling what looks like the exact same one for 3x more money.
